Erfworld is Time's #6 Graphic Novel?
http://www.time.com/time/specials/20...692143,00.html
I want to say "yay webcomics!" but instead I feel compelled to note that as cool as it is to pick a web-published comic that is clearly intended to be read as a graphic novel for this category, shouldn't they have waited 'till it was, like, finished? |
Achewood took the #1 spot.

I don't even like Erfworld; way to alienate your subscription base, Time.

But I mean, feel free to talk about that too, if you like. |
Time hasn't made a good decision since they made me person of the year.

Heh.
I mean seriously, Erfworld? Erfworld? I don't terribly dislike it, mind you. But I visit Giant in the Playground complusively to read one and only one webcomic featured there, and that one webcomic has infinitely superior dialogue and plot and characterization, and it sure as hell ain't Erfworld, if you're catching my drift. (NOTE: My drift is that Order of the Stick kicks Erfworld's pansy ass.) |
I'm very fond of Erfworld, simply because I empathise quite strongly with Lord Hamster (Minus the physique, mind ;) ). The lack of updates is annoying me, though.

I am very fond of Rob and he's a hilarious fellow in person and in writing. But Erfworld? Top 10 comics of the year? Uh. No.

If they really loved webcomics they'd have said Sam & Fuzzy and you all flim-flarn well know it.*
In all honesty I can't get all that upset as that this is basically in keeping of any and all general-interest newsmagazine coverage of any topic of relatively narrow interest. I mean I would bet money that art curators around the world are fumingly mad right now that Time picked Vilja Semmins: A Drawing Retrospective as its number three museum exhibit when the Getty museum's creative history of the French Salon was plainly a superior effort to anything they happened to list. And I mean they're probably totally correct and anyone who knows anything about art would agree. But Time doesn't cause they're Time Magazine and they exist to pander to the intellectually lazy. I do kinda think that if they were gonna throw webcomics some love they coulda gone ahead and just done a webcomics list instead of shoehorning them into Graphic Novels. I mean come on guys a couple more pages' worth of printing ain't breaking any budgets, go ahead and make Perry Bible Fellowship dude's week. *I'd consider sucking up and say 8-bit but I figure it's disqualified in any case from the graphic novel thing due to being, you know, legally unpublishable. |
