Assassin's Creed Ending Discussion (Hella spoilers)

So, um, wow.

Where as Assassin's Creed was kind of getting repetitive, the ending just made me go all holy crap that was totally worth it and I want the next one to come out right fucking now.

And if you're just confused about what the hell is going on, this is a nice explanation.

...What more can I say than,

AGREED.

I thought the ending to Altair's story was actually really good, and it was kind of clever how they merged them at the end. The SF story picked up about midway through the game but then really puttered out. I don't think "Let's start looking for the treasure!" is a very good ending.

While I think in most ways Altair's ending made up for the rest of rather lackluster game I'm not exactly anticipating a sequel and I'm not going to give it a rent unless the gameplay is fleshed out a helluva lot more.

Completely agreed, but let's keep in mind that this is Ubisoft.

Knowing them they'll probably add more content to the next game, but after being betrayed by everyone including his own master he's full of rage and anger, completely changing his persona. Godsmack plays in the background during chase sequences.

That would be swell, I love Godsmack.

That would be the opposite of changing his persona, as this is how he started out in the game. He ended up being much calmer and far more wise at the end, even as he realized that his master betrayed him.

I actually doubt that the next one will include Altair at all. They did leave it open to possibly including him, but the way they ended it I doubt Altair went after the other Pieces of Eden. Remember he had originally planned to destroy the one that he found, but couldn't bring himself to do it. Further, his epilogue (if you go back into the machine you can read it) pretty much finishes up Altair's story and what he did with the rest of his life.

The sequel will most likely concentrate on Desmond's escape. It's important to note that Desmond, after the full DNA synchronization due to the Animus machine, began being able to use Altair's abilities--namely the Eagle Vision--in the end. Further, while Altair's story is done, Desmond's is only just beginning. He and Lucy are, quite possibly, the last living assassins, and the only ones who can stop the current Templer plot to control the minds of every living person in the world.

I therefore postulate that the sequel will be all about Desmond himself, and not his ancestors--or if it is about his ancestors, it won't be Altair. And, eventually, one of the games WILL be about Desmond himself. If not the next sequel, then the one after.

I honestly didn't see the ending as, "Let's go look for treasure," but rather as, "Desmond barely dodged death, is capable of using at least some of Altair's skills, and is the last person alive capable of stopping the Templers from finding one of the remaining Pieces of Eden and using it to control humanity."

To support this there are other things of note, such as Altair being one of the few able to resist the effects of the Piece of Eden--one would postulate from this fact that Desmond himself would also be immune... at least after the Animus blended their personalities and skill sets into Desmond.

Desmond is Becoming Altair...

Mayan Temples, Futuristic Japan, Probably some other places on the US... this game now has a huge potential for awesome!

Just having Desmond loose his identity little by little as at the end of his journey he simply puts on a cape and hood, equips a Knife to his wrist and starts Doing Leaps of Faith on the Throats of Military Soldiers with machineguns before they have a chance to know it, sounds like an great Premise for me! Just hope they dont fuck it up

Also, and this is just a tidbip of a personal comment, but i hope they go back to be PS3 - Only. All the Flaws on AC could be fixed if they had more disc space to work with and a 100% sure rate that there is an HD on each machine (which the 360 cant offer). It's pretty clear that the Switch to Multi-platform hurted the Production value, and since the PS3 is just as powerfull than the 360 i hope they use the Extra room on the BR discs and the HD to add more content and get closer to no Loadings at all.

I always thought this was going to be the case, but to be honest I kind of forgot about it. A modern setting might offer a lot more landscape variety and and a chance to greatly increase the gameplay dynamics.

What? I didn't know there even were any problems with Assassin's Creed performance or graphics wise.

I mostly agree considering I doubt they're going to need to go back in time at all. Well maybe it'll be about finding out more about the Yonanagi, since that seemed like a pretty big hint towards Japan. Maybe there's an artifact there? Or maybe you can find out exactly what the artifacts each do from something in Japan?

But it's probably going to be about Desmond merging his mind with Altair's abilities, and how that is represented with his escape and all. I hope anyway. I had enough of the Animus.

God willing Kirsten Bell goes all kunoichi on us.

Desmond is Becoming Altair...
I wouldn't quite say that. I'd say it's more that the Animus has unlocked Desmond's genetic memory, so he now remembers being Altair to some extent, and therefore remembers how to do what Altair can do as well as gaining a good amount of Altair's ideas and so forth.

It's hard to say exactly how much he remembers, and how ingrained it is into him. At least enough so that he can use some of Altair's basic (and more mystical) abilities, like the Eagle Vision.

Edit: I disliked all the old PoP games pretty hard, and, as a result, never really tried the new ones, so I didn't get the reference.
