Crysis

After reading today's news post on Crysis, I have to agree. I had to build a new computer from the ground up just to run Crysis on DX10 high. Still need another video card before I can touch Very High mode. The game is great. The AI is great, the story is pretty engaging and the destructable environments are surprisingly useful gameplay wise.

But it is true that the system requirements will hurt initial sales. But I don't think this is really a problem. What they've built is a future proof (or at least for the next year or so) game. Although it won't have high initial sales, due to the great reviews it's been getting I think sales will remain much more constant than a game like Call of Duty 4, which is also a great game, but is built for a bit older technology.

This will be a game that people will buy for the next year as their computer life cycles reach their end. Especially with the new extremely cheap Nvidia 8800GT and ATI Radeon 3870 each priced at around 200 dollars which are comparable with a 8800GTS and 2900XT we should see much more people buying this game.

What i'm saying basically is that Crysis will have a much longer sales life than other games that are built more modern-friendly, so I'm not too worried about poor initial sales.

Why would you be worried about poor initial sales anyway?

...He's a developer of the game? Maybe an advertiser? Or a shareholder in the company?

I want to know now too!

I'm just a fan. I like to see the games I like do well is all. Same reason why I like to read any new reviews of a game even after I buy them.

I need to buy some stock in Crytek so I can use my heavily respected position on this forum to influence legions of consumers to purchase their games and make millions.

I played the demo quite a bit and messed around with the level editor. DX10 silliness aside, it runs remarkably well and it was pretty fun too. Which surprised me because I hated Farcry. I suppose the suit options provided just enough tactical variety to make the game interesting.

Yeah, i hated farcry too. Mostly because enemies could see you from across the island, thru a building, and in a forest. Luckily this isn't in crysis, but the Helicopters have a strange ability to hover right over you all the time even if you're cloaked.

The suit options really do help the sandbox quality of the first half of the game. Punching down a tree to kill a guy or just going hulk on a building to take out everyone inside is just satisfying.

I love it just for the fact that I get to gloat to everyone (even my History
teacher) that my computer can support such a beastly game. The game itself
is great too, and the only reason I had the money to buy it is beacause I
didn't listen to my lemming friends about how awesome Assassin's Creed was
going to be.

Now I laugh at them all mercilessly.

Note to self - short Crytek, then ban DFM.
