The world was circling the drain. Whereas once entire nations had battled bitterly over ideals, prejudice, land and resources, no such grandiose conflict could be sustained in the aftermath.
Roving bands of survivors only fought to keep breathing, against all odds the seed of humanity persevered under the weight of it's own inadequacies until an eventuality occured. Surprisingly enough, this eventuality was not extinction. Now the planet goes on like a suicide survivor. Everything swept beneath the rug, nevermind the scars on the wrists. The cataclysm, known simply as The War in any tongue still uttered, was a global enema. Tradition, governmental systems, societal controls, everything washed away beneath a culture of survival and a subsequent rennaissance of technological advancement unrivaled in all of recorded history. When the first bomb hit nearly 9 billion people tread the tired face of this planet, and when the long night ended a sparse 500 million remained to reap the benefits of what appeared to be a fortunate turn of the dice in a cosmic crap shoot. But these half a billion souls are not what concern us, they are a workforce, a lifeline of biological necessity, a valuable resources or an expensive commodity as the need might dictate, but it's a far smaller population that merit's the largest concern. It is they who unavodiably brought the old world crashing down, by their very existence did they render all previous human endeavor nearly moot, it is they who then saved the pitiful remnants of mankind, and it is they who now await whatever fate they choose, if only because no decision can be made in unison. They are known by many names across the scarred and repaired lands of this Earth, but one very utilitarian title sufficiently encompasses their circumstance, if not their destiny. They are homo sapiens superior, Next Generation Human Beings, Nexgens. They are gods without a legend, myths made flesh. Scions of a newborn global destiny, and the most dangerous creatures in existence. The world of today, some seven decades after The Fall, is one of exciting discovery and innovation. The common man lives comfortably, secure and protected from the heresies of war, famine and disease by the panacea of modern technology. This is the tagline of a new corporate dictatorship, and if a few uncooperative populations need to be dissuaded from terrorist activities, well so be it. Open war between these Corporation-States is unknown, the world stand united in the betterment of humanity, at least this is what all the news vid keep telling us. The truth lies in shadow wars and corporate espionage. Everyone wants to know more than anyone else, and they're all willing to pay the most dire of currencies to get what they want: human lives. Nexgen's are the most precious resource in existence, arising from no discernible genetic process, and woefully scarce. Corporation-States devote untold resources to the location, acquisition and training of these powerful beings, and even with the considerable resources of a well organized nation a few slip beneath the radar. They are used as savants and ciphers, as soldiers without equal and unparalleled spies. They excel at whatever they choose, or more often at whatever task is chosen for them by their corporate sponsors. They are accorded titles and lifestyles befitting their importance, but seldom groomed to lead, or to rule. The world stands uneasy, under the control of greedy and seemingly heartless men, but men nonetheless. No one yet knows what would happen were one of the chosen few to gain some meaningful sway with a powerful government, all dread the day one decides to become a conqueror. And, while these nexgens represent a particular vision of the future, remnants of the bygone past persist, almost as dreams of a forgotten reality, progeny of a would be saviour that would not play the role. The children of Mary, as they are poetically named, are sentient programs seeded throughout the decaying architecture of a world wide information network. One of the single greatest resources for knowledge of the past still extant, the newly developed information pathways meerly lie atop the old, and roads still exist to aging mainframes buried beneath the rubble of nearly a century. These AI personalities were first born into physical reality through ingenious manipulation of automated machinery, robot tehcnology coupled with an alien will born of the same machines. They were treated with fear at first, summarily destroyed in many regretful circumstances, until a spokesman arose from their ranks. A ragged minority, clothed in whatever robotic bodies they could scramble together in a mad rush for existance, was held on trial by the world and thanks to the uncanny eloquence of an unnamed android orator, they were granted the singular right to live. These first few were known as the Pilgrims, and many still exist from that time, some thirty years after The War. Still today, some are born from within the unknowable depths of cyberspace, and as children seeing light for the first time they greet the world in many different ways. Many nodes exist, from which these newly minted sentiences may petition a corporate sponsor for substantiation, being granted a body and a place to call home in exchange for a term of indentured servitude. Some still manage to self substantiate, hacking android construction equipment and stealing a body of their own. These fugitives seldom remain at large for long, and indeed most find employment with the corporations anyways. A rare few meet their ends in oppostion to the same benefactors, but this is highly unlikely due to the potential these mechanical minds possess, and the relative scarcity with which they occur. Your character can be either a nexgen operative or an android, from various backgrounds and possessing a myriad different skills and talents. I will post some cultural background for the Corporations they could be sponsored by, as well as character templates and occupations to use as a starting point for your character's creation. Also, some notes on the abilities these characters possess. If you are interested go ahead and post in this thread, I'll be working on the rest now. |
if you "TL:DR" me I'll probably find you...
Here's a break down of the major cultural-geographical powers.
NORTHER The State of Norther is culturally centered around three major cities, located along the Eastern seaboard of what was once the United States. It's policies are characterized by a seemingly genuine concern for public welfare and safety, and by a violently independent bent and zero tolerance for dissension. The leaders of Norther form a small group of one dozen of the most powerful men and women on the planet. Known collectively as "The Seat" they act as arbiters of Norther's international and internal policies. Appointment to The Seat is attained by a mjority vote of the current members, and a position only opens up upon death or retirement of a current member, death being more prevalent. The three major cities of Norther are Farcoast, located near what was once Virginia, Newmarket in what was once Pennsylvania and Firstland in Florida. Various smaller settlements and agricultural locations exists throughout the Eastern North American continent as well. Farcoast acts as the de facto capital of Norther, with a majority of the 12 Seat members having their main offices there, and all having at least a foothold in the local political arena. It's architecture is daring and progressive, the majority of the population housed in super buildings, clusters of sky scrapers built together to form several layers of habitation, stretching over a mile into the sky at some points. Often referred to simply as "Far" it represents a metropolitan collection of all that is Norther. Newmarket is an agricultural hub, a center for the distribution and collection of vital agricultural products, it also represents a major technological effort, being one of the most important agricultural technology research centers on the planet. Firstland is smaller than the other two major cities in Norther, yet a large portion of Norther's overall profit is diverted there. This is because Firstland is Norther's foremost center for technological advancement, many efforts are underway in the areas of structural, biological, mechanical and various other forms of engineering. Many wonderous and onerous results have been achieved, and the majority of people living in and near Firstland are employed in some part in the furtherance of Norther's technological base. Norther's main technological advantages include a peerless understanding of biocmechanics and neuralmechanics, which makes their man to machine interface technology second to none. Notably, their tac-suit armed strike teams display reaction times far superior to other military units, in large part thanks to direct synapse connection technology. This has many applications both military and otherwise. THE CLAIMANCY The Claimancy is a small enclave of people centered around what was once Arizona. They are the decendents of a population which was mainly composed of intellectuals and environmentalists. Near the beginning of The War a small population of forward minded people decided to withdraw from society at large and form a self contained commune, hoping to weather the inevitable storm in an enclosed living space. A biodome as it was known at the time. The idea seemed laughable to most, and yet as the impending ragnarok encroached more and more people were swayed to consider it. A series of enclosed habitats were constructed with the utmost haste, construction still continuing even as the first thermonuclear strike hit Phoenix. As the world crumbled apart, these people withdrew into the maintenance of their artificial homes. As the air outside grew poisonous and the sun grew scarce, they fought against the demons of entropy to maintain their miniature ecosystems against all odds. Some were successful, some were not, but through the long night these people maintained contact, and a lose confederation sprung up. With the advent of nexgen radiation dispersal techniques, with the veil of armageddon lifted, these people still remained untrusting of the world at large and for the most part kept to themselves. Today these people are known as The Claimancy, a small group of decendants of hippies and environmentalists, survivalists and isolationists. Their culture has become one of philosophical discourse and a certain mysticism. They possess a vast wealth of pre-war knowledge and were instrumental in the implementation of infrastructure after The War. They share their knowledge when necessary, and their philosphies when able. Often times seen as eccentric, enigmatic or just downright crazy by foreigners, their knowledge and skills in the more esoteric sciences make them invaluable nonetheless. The Claimancy is composed of five major domed cities, although they no longer have a necessity for an enclosed environment their are some advantages to a self sustaining ecosystem. Each city is governed by a group of elders, who's decisions are ratified by consensus. Voting is direct and their are no representatives, voting licenses are given after the satisfactory completion of primary education and the subsequent passing of a standardized exam for full citizenship. In matters of international import, one elder from each major city is elected to a temporary oligarch, this group will exist until the particular matter is resolved and then disband. No elder may be elected oligarch more than once in their life, and so in this way one person's ego may not derail an entire population. BIOCHEM The starkly named conglomerate Biochem is a collective devoted almost entirely to the advancement of the human understanding of life. In general this means a noted devotion to biological research, however specifically is is one man's drive to discern the secret of nexgen genesis. The Biochem collective is centered in two major cities and numerous smaller towns and settlements along what was once the West Coast of the United States, as well as inland as far as Utah. Site 1, Angels, or Angelino as it is called, depending on the context, is located over the old city of Los Angeles. It is here that the President Chairman of Biochem resides, a young and driven man by the name of Valence Waters. He inherited the position from his late father, and maintains an iron grip on the reins of governance. Delta, Saint's City or Site 4 is located around the old city of San Francisco. This area is a highly industrialized manufacturing mecca. A great majority of Biochem's profit is produced here, advanced filtration technologies making it possible to manufacture an incredible volume of goods without polluting the surrounding environs into uninhabitability. Biochem policy is in large part mandated by the President Chairman, however a small group of internally elected officials undergo the day to day governance of industry within Biochem controlled areas. Biochem is known openly as a great manufacturing hub and a leader in medical research, however beneath the benevolent exterior lies a somewhat more sinister appearance than even it's corporate neighbors. Rumors of inhumane experimentation persist, and more terrifying still are scattered reports of inhuman soldiers used in insurgent pacification. Terrified rebels speaking of demonic beasts, unstoppable devils with incredible powers... .............................. These three Corporate-States represent the main focus of the campaign. There are several other major world powers that I shall detail later as necessary, including the Zaiban Group, which is located throughout Eastern Asia, the Harcat Collective which is a loose confederation through the middle east, parts of europe and Africa. The Montblanc, located in Western Europe, and Haven, which is located throughout Africa. South America remains largely uninhabited, due to a migration and subsequent pogrom during the latter parts of The War. There simply aren't enough people to go around these days, and most aren't terribly interested in winning back civilization from encroaching jungles. The Australian continent suffered great losses of population due to famine and resource shortage, but managed to maintain a relatively clean environment throughout the long night. A small population still remains, seen as rather backwater by the rest of the planet. Now about nexgen physiology and capabilities. Genetically speaking, nexgen humans remain indistinct from the rest of humanity. Even with the human genome long since broken down to it's constituent particles the mystery remains as to precisely how nexgens come about their godly powers. It is impossible to tell whether a child will grow to be a nexgen or a normal human by simply observing their DNA. However, the nexgen body is something far grander than a mere human. For one, nexgen's do not possess normal antibodies. Seemingly, they have been replaced by reactive biological agents that connect directly to the nexgen "higher mind" (a phenomenon we shall discuss later) meaning that a nexgen cannot contract a disease, and is highly resistent to any change in internal homeostasis. Poisons and toxins of all kinds are useless and harmless against nexgens, with only a rare few incredibly deadly substances having any affect at all, and even these being seldom fatal. Nexgen physiology also makes it near impossible for a nexgen to be in anything but peek physical condition. All nexgens are paragons of physical human perfection, well toned and muscled bodies with small percentages of body fat. Their respiratory and circulatory systems are incredibly efficient, and even such abuses as smoking and drug abuse will not cause permanent damage to their tissues and organs. A nexgen can run flat out for ten miles and merely feel the discomfort of hunger, but such feats are almost irrelevant in the face of true nexgen potential. Through a reflexive mental process, the nexgen can access what has been dubbed the "Higher Mind" which grants her access to an alternate thought processing function. No one has determined quite how the mechanism works, but at it's most basic this afford the nexgen the cognitive capacity of a quantum computer. Able to observe, manipulate and predict innumerable variable at once, this ability alone would place them head and shoulders above normal man, however this ability is merely the gateway to the nexgen potential. Once a nexgen learns to consciously control their higher mind, they are granted an extra spacial awareness, and through the manipulation of energetic particles created, in theory, through the interaction the Higher and Lower minds, the ability to affect change in reality through a thought process. This has numerous applications, and more are discovered all the time as nexgens push their own abilities to the limits. From simple telekinesis and energy manipulation to extreme physicioligical changes to their own bodies, the ability to maove at incredible speeds, to interface directly with computational equipment, to shatter a boulder with the barest thought or to peruse the contents of another's mind. These abilities and more are the purview of nexgen operatives, and it's these awe inspiring powers that truly set them apart. This power, when used judiciously is reliable and accurate. However, if the nexgen pushes themself too hard, uses too much power at once, or tries to accomplish something truly mammoth in scope, dangers arise. This is known as flashback, and the results can be fatal, or worse. At it's mildest level flashback leads to momentary disorientation, unconsciousness or nausea. A telltale sign is a slight wave of energetic release which distorts light around the nexgen, along with bleeding nose or eyes. At more extreme levels flashback can lead to sever brain hemmoraghing, causing dementia, coma, death or permanent mental derangement. While losing a precious nexgen to flashback is a dire loss of important resources, losing one to the throws of madness is yet more dangerous. The thought of an insane powerhouse loose on the streets is enough to keep many high level coporate dictators awake at night. Now I will detail a few occupations, along with specific technologies. SOLDIER This occupation is possibly the most direct application of nexgen potential. Trained as combatants, nexgen warriors become destructive forces without equal. Through their uniqe abilities to manipulate energies, compute vast amounts of data at speed and sheer physical prowess nexgens become transcendent mechanisms of warfare. This broad category includes all sorts of nexgen warfare specialists. It can be subdivided into further categories, including: Assault: these nexgens tend to focus more on the big bang theory of combat, which is to say that you win the fight if your enemy is blown to a very fine powder. They use energy manipulation techniques extensively, allowing for powerful protective fields and devastating energetic attacks. An Assault nexgen can turn a battle tank into slag with a gesture, or brush off an incoming missile attack with a wave of their hand. this focus on obvious tactics tends to leave them less skilled in more finesse oriented combat, not to mention lacking in more esoteric skills like information manipulation techniques or telepathy. Still, one seldom needs finesse when they can level a building with a thought. Skill: These soldiers rely more on inhuman puissance and reaction time to win the day. They are often time superhumany swift and may possess more well rounded abilites than their soldier compatriots. However, they invariably focus on mental alacrity, pushing their awareness to the limits and becoming even clairvoyant in their thought processes. Skill soldiers are beings of fluid grace and supple perfection, able to sidestep a hail of bullets, or dance through a rain shower without getting wet. They make excellent battlefield tacticians, and always appear to be one step ahead of even the brightest and most ardent opponents. Brute: These soldiers are creatures of physical strength and presence. They often cross train in defensive energy manipulation techniques as well. These powerhouses can wade through armies, with augmented muscular strength and toughness they appear to be completely invulvernable and implaccable. A nexgen brute can grasp an explosive shell mid flight, catching it like a baseball and watch it explode in his hand, compltely unharmed. They can tear an assault helicopter apart with their bare hands, and are the most physically imposing nexgen type. AGENT Agent's use their nexgen abilities to procure the most valuable of commodities in the world of corporate power struggles: information. Agents are tools of discretion and subterfuge, where a soldier would bluedgeon his foe into submission, an agent subverts, coerces or merely bypasses his adversary. Agents come in many varieties of course, and here are three subcategories. Diplomat: A diplomat is a social manipulator extraordinaire. They typically focus on large scale sociological manipulation techniques, concerned more with the big picutre political scene of their particular assignment. They tend to possess mass telepathy and suggestion powers, as well as hypothetical precognitive abilities. They make superb tacticians and advisors, and always seem to be proven right by the outcome of events. Their abilities to sway public opinion through judicious application of telepathic suggestions are much respected and feared. Diplomats tend to cross train into different fields as well, supplementing their silver tongues with self defense oriented abilities and defensive powers. a diplomat can change the course of overarching public opinion overnight, always leave a room knowing exactly what he wished to know and predict the outcome of events to a startling degree of accuracy. Ghost: a ghost is a techno-infiltrator. A hybrid possessing many disparate abilities and a singular purpose: to be the key that opens all doors. Ghosts are extensively trained in technological interface, system hacking and counter hacking. They also typically possess abilities more in line with mundance infiltration, as many systems are hardwired and must be accessed locally. Where a diplomat might seek to gain permissions, a Ghost never has to ask. a ghost can sneak into high security locales and bypass state of the art computer defenses without breaking a sweat. They can have the information they want and be on the way home with no one the wiser. They are irreverent spies and espionage agents, knowing full well that they can get what no one wants them to have. Assassin: These agents epitomize the concept of problem solver. They are the blade which cuts the string of fate. Possessing superhuman abilities, they are nigh unstoppable, and thankfully rare. Assassins combine infiltration and non detection techniques with extensive combat training and interrogation abilities. Not quite so adept as finding answers as a diplomat, they can be quite persuasive nonetheless, not so tech savvy or well rounded as the ghost they are far more precise and even harder to pin down. In terms of sheer combat skill, they are nearly unparalleled, only skill soldiers surpassing them with any regularity. |
Maybe this really is too much information, like that one time my ex girlfriend told..
SAVANT Savant's dedicate themselves to the pursuit, adaptation and manipulation of all forms of knowledge. It was this class of nexgen that perfected the radiation dispersal process that saved humanity, and even now they are at the forefront of technological innovation, their inhuman cognitive capabilities brought to bear on the most extreme conundrums. Here are several examples of nexgen savants. Inquisitor: Where other savants center their studies around the physical sciences primarily, an inquisitor is a scholar of the human mind. To the point where they can map a human personality, creating new memories and destinies in the minds of others, even downloading the entirity of another humans experiences into their own higher mind, knowing everything that person has known. Inquisitors can tease, pry and force information from the minds of others, implant false memories and maniuplate the human mind masterfully. They are the greatest telepaths in the world, and even the most well guarded minds can and often do falter beneath their withering gaze. Inquisitors often diversify into more technological fields as well, allowing them to transfer the personality data they possess into digital simulacrums, even transplanting a personality into an android body. Techno-Savant: these technological wizards focus on particular fields of study, and utilize their powers to manipulate large amounts of data at speed, as well as for more direct applications. Considered brilliant, even among their uncanny peers, Techno-savants are often times singleminded and devoted to their fields. Biological engineers, quantum computer engineers, and a great number of other technological fields offer an attraction to the unmitigated power of the nexgen higher mind. They specialize in data manipulation, as well as direct manipulation of matter and energy in specific patterns relevant to their fields. A geneticist might possess the ability to instantaneously recombine the DNA of a subject, changing that creature's complete biological make up, others might be able to manipulate the chemical make up of a substance, turning one material to another, or even convertain matter to energy, or vice versa. Their abilities are highly specifc but incredibly powerful. Techno-Savants seldom cross train in combat specific abilities, and while many possess the capability to cause mass destruction, they aren't typically concerned with the dirty melee of combat. They are often seen as clumsy or physically weak by their nexgen brethren, despite being paragons of human physical perfection. .............................. NATION SPECIFIC SPECIALTIES NORTHER: Norther possesses two distinct technological advantages. The mental facillitation device, and improved tac-suit technology. MFD (mental facillitation device): This is a neural connected lattice work surgically implanted into the nexgen skull which allows for a higher volume of energetic particles and a slightly easier maintenance of the connection between higher and lower mind. The technology was developed by nexgen analysts and is still not fully comprehended, although by it's efficacy it would seem that Norther has gotten closer to an understanding of the higher mind connection than any other nation. It acts as a sort of buffer between flashback and normative cerebral homeostasis. In game terms this allows a nexgen operative to use her powers more often with a decreased possibility of flashback. This has no effect on limits of magnitude however, as trying to call down more power than is normally fluctuating through the nexgen mind is a surefire way to damage the circuit. This means that many Norther operative will be able to sustain power-based operation for longer before suffering flashback or needing to recover through rest. Improved tac-suit technology: Again, due to Norther's understanding of the mind they have developed the fastest interface software on the planet. Norther strike teams fitted with direct synsapse controlled tac-suits have a much higher survival rate than their compatriots in other nations due to the increase in reaction time. When you couple this technology with a nexgen pilot, the results are astounding. Truly, Norther tac-suits are the only supplemental combat armors to even come close to keeping up with a nexgen pilot at full speed. The Claimancy: The Claimancy possesses one distinct advantage, and that's a greater understanding of paranormal sciences. This field of study has expanded and a few groundbreaking studies have illustrated some startling and terrifying truths to the universe that the world at large had remained blissfully ignorant of for all of recorded history. Paranormal Sciences: Claimancy operatives have access to skill sets and information pertaining to such unbelievable phenomenon as manifested spirits and ghosts. Through the maniuplation of a particular sort of energetic pattern called a "personality matrix" these operative can bolster the lingering patterns of the deceased, or disperse them entirely. This is a rather frightening process for most, and while the science remains rather hush hush, all those in the know, know that The Claimancy is your best bet when facing a supernatural mystery. Biochem: Biochem possesses one rather frightening advantage, the manipulation of nexgen gene sequences known as DNA Enhancement and Manipulation Of Nexgens. or DEMON. DEMON: This frightening process was pioneered in the ongoing effort to discern how a nexgen comes to be, Through extensive manipulation of the nexgen genetic code radical changes can be made. Due to the incredible nexgen physiology, physical extremes can be endured and in the right circumstances, even nexgen physical limits can be surpassed. The process converts the conduit of higher mind and lower mind into a perpetual furnace once activated. Normally a nexgen can activate this conduit at will, and siphon off only as much power as necessary. This sort of stop and go traffic can lead to excess wear and tear however, as evidenced by flashback. A DEMON, however, has this process replaced by a simple on off switch. While all the innate abilites of a nexgen are constantly active, all higher functions are only accessible once this switch is flipped. However, in this process the Biochem geneticists implement a control, and an enhancement. They've managed to isolate a significant portion of the energy released in the conduit connection and divert it into very specific powers. Once activated, the nexgen begins a physical transformation into a more fitting creature. Flesh hardens and biological processes change drastically to accomodate the increase in tempurature and pressure the conduit enacts. The nexgen becomes a living demon, blood as fire and flesh as diamond. Nearly unstoppable and fiercely powerful, outstripping even brutes in sheer physical might. The particular display of the change differs from one DEMON to the next, but is often inhuman and winged, a stylised representation of the fury that burns within them. Demons possess other powers more in line with other nexgens, but these are only accessible in Demon form, leaving them quite vulnerable when the switch is off, but incredibly powerful and resistant to flashback when in demon form. Demon's are almost always some form of soldier, though rarely they are assassins as well. .............................. Ok, all of this is just to give everyone some ideas. Feel free to suggest your own particular character concepts and power ideas. Also, I need to finish AI character types and powers as well. I keep getting stuck on that for some reason. If you are interested, or have any question, just post here. If you'd like to create a nexgen character from one of the Nations detailed here, here's a simple template. Name: Yep, thas right. a name Age: Nexgen's live slightly longer than most normal humans, but they still age and die of old age at around 100 to 110, mostly. Which is rather strange, when you think about it. Also, you're character will be between the ages of 18 and 25. Older nexgens are scarce and more powerful. Height/weight: remember nexgen's aren't overweight ever. They might be very muscled, but not grotesquely so. Their bodies automatically maintain a balance, so even if they lifted weights and took supplements like a mad man, they'd still look the same as they would if they just sat around eating cheetohs. Physical description: hair color and style, eye color, skin color, skinny or muscular, what their face looks like, that sort of thing. Bio: describe who they are in general, who employs them, why they do what they do, what their personal motivations are. Their family, their friends, their relations with their peers. love interests, rivals, whatever. if you want some more information on the setting to help your character fit in, just ask. occupation: What your character does primarly. a one or two word description would be fine. "Assault Officer" "Mechanial Techno-Savant" "Tac-Suit Pilot" that sort of thing powers: in general, what your character focuses on and what they're capable of. this can be quite extensive, but keep in mind the furtherance in one field generally means neglect in another. |
Are you going to allow Android type characters? Reading over this makes me want to play a character that is basically an attempt to recreate the power of a Next Gen via android. And if you did allow such a thing it would have to come from I would guess Norther or one of the places not described.
|
I remember another attempt at this RP. I had a character in that one; a human-obessed, socially high-strung AI. Any chance of giving that character another go? (If its bad RP form to do so, I apologize, I didn't really know. If its no, but just cause, that's alright, I'm still interested.)
|
Would it be possible to play a regular human who somehow got caught up with the nexgens? Barring that, what about nexgens with less-than-substantial abilities?
|
quit playing like you aint after my goodies...
Inbred: Basically, androids have certain advantages and disadvantages over nexgen operatives. For one, they do not suffer flashback ever, and they can operate at a superhuman tempo so long as their power supplies hold out, which is typically longer than a nexgen could go without suffering some form of mental detriment. Their bodies are high tech machines capable of incredible physical feats, and their minds are constantly churning quantum bits and bloops, which makes them inhumanly quick thinkers with reaction times approaching those of peak nexgen performance.
Of course, they do not possess many of the more over the top abilities that nexgens do, they can't simply create energy on a whim or effect direct change in reality through sheer force of will, however given the proper equipment and time, many things become possible. Basically AI's are far more dependent on technology and thusly, on procuring tasty toys either through conventional means, or otherwise. Mainly the present an interesting roleplaying challenge, an alien consciousness attempting to define itself in a starkly human world. In terms of android chassis, there are two broad categories. Utilitarian and Human Emulation. Utilitarian chassis are more suited for extreme conditions and combat. They appear at least nominally humanoid, with articulate faces and the correct number of appendages, but are constructed of highly durable materials and motive systems, increasing their physical capacities drastically while sacrificing any hope of being mistaken for human. Human emulation bodes are not quite as robust, needing to meet certain mass standards and tissue textures. They are however, quite a bit stronger than an actual human. As synthetic muscle fibers replace the living muscle in humans, and reactive synth-skin polymers form a limited self repair system. In general, human emulation chassis are indistinguishable from a normal human upon initial inspection. Only invasive surgery, full body scan or an obvious display of superhuman effort will give them away. Newly substantiated AI's are typically leased a single chassis, often times modified for what particular field of employ they are tasked with. Older, more established and freed AI's often times possess a menagerie of different chassis for certain occassions. If you choose to play an AI character, you will be less than 5 years old (five years from time of initial substantiation) and possess one body dependent on your occupation. I hope this helps. Gorefiend: If you'd like to revisit that intial character that should be fine, repost the charater bio and it should be good. Bosolai: playing a normal human would leave you outclassed and relatively useless, so that's a no go. The concept of an inept nexgen is a bit sketchy, however an untrained nexgen would likely possess a less diverse array of abilities than a trained counterpart. A rogue nexgen, on the run her whole life and trying to stay under the radar would likely be "less skilled" however, they'd also be prone to over usage of power and flashback, due to a lack of training in control. If your character were actually tutored by a benefactor of some sort, the concept of less powerful does not exist. AI characters can come from any major Corporation, so the three main ones detailed thus far are all equally likely to employ them. This particular story arc will deal with many AI issues as well, so a larger portion of AI characters is acceptable. I'll be running this pretty free form, so if you think you've got a handle on the setting, just think up a character concept and roll with it. I'd like to get some sign ups pretty soon, I know this is at least interesting enough to sign up for, so fucking do it all ready you punks! :D |
Name: Xavier
Age: 3 Height/weight: Right at 6 feet tall, weighing in at 200 pounds. Even with lightweight material, Xavier is still pretty freaking heavy. Physical description: Short black hair with deep brown eyes. He looks like he is just passing 20 in human years. Sort of muscular, nothing like 300 billion ton bench press muscle, but what you would expect from someone that would do reps about 5 times a week. Bio: Xavier is an android, and a lucky one at that. When he first petitioned for a body, ends up he had incredible timing. Apparently, Norther, the company Xavier was petitioning, was making some finishing touches on a new design of an android body. With the every increasing amount of NexGens around, they had to be prepared to take out enemy nexgens. However the process of obtaining other Nexgens was taking too long, since the nexgens were spread out far inbetween already, and the fact that many weren't joining their ranks weren't helping. So instead they started work on a type of android capable of taking out a nexgen easily. However when discussing how such a machine should function, Xavier petitioned for a body. The idea of sticking such an intelligent AI into an android actually seemed plausable, since it would be capable of making decisions on how to take on such a task. Of course, the AI would be supplied with the right equipment to do so. So Xavier was granted this body, however what they asked of him was pretty high. Wanting him to hunt down such powerful beings was going to be rough, so of course everything was done properly. In fact he hasn't actually been in the field but for 18 months. His first half of his life so far has been spent under carefuly study, insuring that everything functioned correctly on the body and that no problems would occur in the field. The only backfire of having such a capable chassis is that Xavier has found himself under constant surveillance. While he is given some freedoms, he is very much restrained. Occupation: Covet Assassin. Powers: Human emulation: Research determined early that in order to get near a NexGen for a quick kill, the android in question should be able to pass for human. Special software has also been planted for Xavier's use in case he gets into trouble. However while he can pass for human, he is no diplomat. While he may still have sophisticated software to help emulate human interactions, he can only do so up to a degree. Computer Interfacing: Xavier has the ability to interface with just about anything with a computer attached to it. Being with such advanced programming abilities, Xavier can hack into just about any computer and allow him to pass. Stealth Field Generator: Xavier also has special implants in him, which can allow for a sort of extreme camouflage. It works by detecting what color of light is hitting one side, and emitting that same light on the other. This doesn't work perfectly, as motion is easily caught within the shifting of light. But slow precise movements tend to allow such camouflage to work. Thermal controls also will attempt to keep the temperature to match the rest of the room. Even special sound dampeners will be activated, so that unexpected actions that cause noise will cause much less. Couple this with the ability to interface with a computer, there isn't much were Xavier can't go. Hi-speed scanner: Xavier's sensory array has been put all at high-speed. In about a second, around 2-3 thousand different frames are made of visual data, each processed. Not only that, but sound is calculated on a range well beyond that of normal humans. Thermal sensors are also active, however they aren't as precise, and were made for the Thermal controls. However in emergencies they can be used as a sort of radar sense. All of this allows Xavier to react just about as well as a NexGen, if not more so. Uplink: Probably the best of Xavier's abilities, he has a special tunnel into the Norther database. This allows for an extreme range of knowledge, and in emergences he can even use powerhouse computers on that side to make some heavy duty calculations. Not only that, but anything Xavier isn't familiar with, he can send scans of the item in question, and come back with some very detailed results of what to do and how to do it. Defenses of this Uplink are hardcore, with the last being an immediate shutdown of the link on boths sides until physical contact is made again, so the most hacking into the link would do is simply cause the link to shutdown. Well there is what I'm thinking. There are other things in powers that I named, like combat abilities and whatnot, but it would be normal combat for an android so I didn't bother mentioning it. |
Alright I have an idea but I doubt it will be excepted, however I'll give a small description to see how far it gets.
While most corporate leaders were recruiting nexgens at a ferocious rate, a small group of scientists from Area X (most likely Norther) began to fear they would one day attempt to enslave the human race. So they began working on ways for mankind to defend itself from the superior-in-every-way nexgens. They tried mind altering weapons and vehicles with a little or none existent success rate and as time went by their firm began to lose money and would have to mothball the project. Eventually they decided to go for one last, and highly immoral, project. It is unclear what exactly this project was but it seemed to be an attempt to fuse an animal or human mind with a machine design to remove and indeed reverse the effects of the nexgen so-called higher mind. You see it was designed to send a wave of acute radiation, harmless to humans, through the air which disrupted the electric particles that connected the Higher mind to the lower mind. The result was that when this radiation was released nexgens lost a large amount of their abilities, and when further radiation was released they began to contract headaches and began to have migraines. However none of these were sever enough to actually damage the nexgens and thus the user would have to carry a weapon with him/her. It was far too bulky to be simply carried so it was proposed an android be built capable of storing the device inside its chassis. However the radiation that the device released was notorious for its inability to be released from AI run systems, because the substance prevented the various radio wave lengths used by to operate mechanical on anything it was in close contact to: An AI couldn’t activate the system, it had to be done manually. So they went back to the drawing board. By this time at one of the scientists had actually died, the project had been going on so long. The science group had made enough money on their research into robotics (particularly in anti nexgen robotics) to support their little project but they were getting sick of it. In the end the project was scrapped. However before it was ended (and all the records were subsequently destroyed; no need to have any nexgens accidentally stumbling on it and mind scanning the scientists about it.) a copy of blueprints, which were deemed too ineffective to be ever put into use, went missing. They fell into the hands of a rogue scientist who after a couple of modifications built a prototype which could be surgically implanted into a human being. He than kidnapped someone (it is unclear who, but it was definitely someone from outside Area X territory) and surgically implanted the machine (which needed to be placed throughout his body, circling around his major organs.) This caused several problems however, most notably amnesia, brought on by placing the mental control for the radiation near the memory part of the brain. It was an incredible success and the scientist had more then enough cause for celebration. His success was short lived, however as almost immediately after the surgery he was assassinated, for stealing several Area X technologies. (Minor ones, but enough to warrant his removal) The man he experimented on disappeared during the assassination taking with a stolen experimental assault rifle (another project deemed too erroneous for use) and disappeared. What surprised Area X the most however was the fact the Nexgen assassin was unable to detect him. The officials said the man was probably insane and thus his mind was too disrupted to sense, however at least one of them new the truth about the man. The Man himself? A person who can only remember that he was escaping some kind of lab where some guy was being killed by another guy? Well he took with him a gun an headed out into the world fully expecting some kind dark alien apocalypse, given the abilities of that Nexgen (His amnesia was so sever that he didn’t even know how he knew things.) He got a job as a mechanic (“I’m good with machines! Apparently…) and been living a rather dazed life ever since. However certain Area X leaders are looking for him. He is the only human capable of fighting a Nexgen and winning (if only just) making him one of the most precious weapons in the eyes of Area X. Few, that took a long time. So much for small! Anyway I don’t expect this to be accepted but if it were I would probably be introduced into the story by fleeing from Area X (Again almost definitely Norther) personal who have discovered me. |
I'm glad to see this exists again!
I would like to revisit Isosceles Dee and his Invasive Apparitions, but it looks like you already have a few people wanting to play androids so I might look into a nexgen concept. Hope this one runs goodly! |
