American Presidents...in ginger

For faux new years I have been given an assignment... to cook 43 gingerbread men each with the likeness of an American president.
Basically all the men are going to be decorated American like but each man is going to have a distinguishing mark, either a physical characteristic or with something indicative of thier key achievements or iconic things or thier rein.
So we're looking for ideas of things to give individual presidents. Particularly ideas about the later presidents are good as we have a lot of guys in our flat who do post-graduate studies in early american history but anything good really.

Make James K. Polk a bit bigger, as He Might Be Giant. :P

Clinton was known for playing the saxophone, so giving that one a sax would be cool.
Nixon had that pose associated with "I am not a crook" and the nose. FDR had a wheelchair, even though most pictures do not have him in it. Bush Sr. had that big forehead.

Lincoln = Hat.

All I know.

I think it was Chester Arthur who had that awesome beard too.

Alternatively you could connect him to a chubby gingerbread chick with a bit of frosting on her chest.

You know... i think that Bush jr will give you the most trouble, maybe you coudl do something with his hair or Turkey neck

Put a piece of pretzel near George Jr's mouth. That might work?

Have two with a 1700's hairstyle. Give one additionally a Napoleon-styled or other similar distinctive hat. The one with the hat is George Washington. The one without is Thomas Jefferson.

You could, alternatively, make a cookie for Nixon and split it in half--one half goes for one of his terms, and the other for his other term.

The junior John Quincy Adams should look identical to the senior, only shorter.

I believe Teddy Roosevelt led a cavalry group in his heyday, so you could give him a horse.
