American Gladiators

I'll admit it...I watched it.

I remember watch this show as a kid, so at the very least, I had to give it a watch in the name of nostalgia.

It turns out it was pretty entertaining. At the very least, my fears that they were going to ruin a childhood memory proved unfounded. For the most part, they left it mostly about the competition, instead it turning into some kind of pro-wrestling-style-trash-talk-fest like I was afraid they were going to.

Ah...nostalgia.

I still can't believe they brought back this abortion of a show.

I'll reserve judgement considering the original was a terrible thing. Like, the best thing that came out of it was the Hot Shots 2 parody they did about it at the end.

God, that 80s theme song. Ugh.

I really want to see this. I loved the original, nothin' like all American cheesiness!

Did they have the game where the contestants dodge a tennis ball gun and try to hit a target with nerf guns?

Also, Hulk Hogan can do no wrong. Except for Suburban Commando.

And Thunder in Paradise.

And Mr. Nanny.

And Hogan Knows Best.

And an American Gladiators remake.

And Thunder in Paradise 2 and 3.

But this show should be.... Oh damn, I listed it. Oh well. Goodnight everybody!

It's actually a rather accurate revival. And yes, they could have made it much worse. Look what NBC's done with opening luggage.

And, you know, watching it is better with people there to riff on it with, wether it be in person or online. And hell, it's better than most reality shit out there.

They've brought back American gladiators?

I don't know what to say.... It was so 80's. How would this work?

Flashier lighting and camera work, mostly. And a much harder Eliminator round. But they've got the cheesiness in there that was such a part of American Gladiator, including over-the-top play-by-play announcer. It's like they just polished up the original.

But no Atlasphere, I was sad.

Yes, Assault is back.

I think my avatar says just about everything that needs to be said about this revival. Just don't go into it expecting anything but pure comedy gold and you'll never be disappointed.

The Wolf is nice and creepy, but in a silly way. And Militia seemed like he was a good sport about being knocked off by Jeff. Fury bears a striking resemblance to a makeupless Boy George.

Anyway, it's good, hokey fun...it's still better than the spate of "reality" shows that have come out in recent years.
