"Remote Play," or "Snake? Snake?!? SNAAAAAAKE!"
Now, y'see, I just got my PS3 and my PSP updated to their latest versions. The 3.80 PSP update lets me listen to the radio, but it also lets me do something else: I can register it to my PS3, use the Remote Play function, and from my PSP, turn on and off my PS3 from pretty much anywhere with a wireless signal. And as long as there's a PS1 game in the disc drive, I can play that, from anywhere with a wireless signal,on my PSP.
I just find this really neat. I spent a few hours playing MGS on my PSP last night via my PS3 - the only issue that popped up was that there wasn't an L2 or R2 button on it. Not only can I download old PS1 games to my PS3, I can now play them via my PSP. (=3) And with the PSP Slim getting Skype and Voip in the future, as well as being able to plug into the TV and use its larger screen to play your PSP games, it nearly redeems Sony for the whole shoddy backwards compatible thing that I was complaining about before. |
I know, owning a PS3 and PSP, I get the same experiance. It's pretty sweet. I play Final Fantasy Tatics, and Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Both are incredibally fun, minus the L2 and R2 buttons.

What's with the lackage of L2 and R2 buttons? Are they going to be fixed later?
|
Unless you manage to add two extra shoulderbuttons to the PSP, no.
Purely hardware "problem". |
It seems like they'd include an option to map the L2/R2 buttons to like some of the direction buttons (if you're using the analog nub), or switch back and forth between L and R equaling L1/R1 and L2/R2. Or SOMETHING. I don't know how you'd play Symphony of the Night, isn't the mist power or something mapped to L2 or R2? And what about Oddworld, I mean, I know they probably didn't design it with the Oddworld games in mind but those used pretty much every button on the controller if I remember correctly...

Hey Seil, is MGS1 in the PSN store? I need to play it, and I cant find a copy anywhere, nor can I find Twin Snakes.
|
That is disgustingly awesome. This is the best idea Sony - wait, scratch that, ANYBODY - has had in a long time. Being able to play console games on a handheld, without needing to buy the game again? Damn! I wish Nintendo could do that.
|
I dun think that MGS is available due to the fact that you need both sets of shoulder buttons to play. That's why there're so few PS games available. (=/ )

It might eventually get released on PSN, but if it does, I'll likely bet it'll be around the time MGS4 gets released. SWB |
