Is LAIR All Bad, Or Just The Control Scheme?
I need a decent game for my PS3, and I was wondering - I've heard a lot about the Lair controls; are they glitchy, stiff or awkward, or is it just a steep learning curve?

All I've got is the game that came with the system, Motocross, and I was never a huge fan of racing games. I am getting Assassin's Creed tomorrow, it's just... I wanna slay armies from dragon-back.

I know Joshelplexal loves Uncharted and from what I hear it's a pretty good game. Lair is really bad though I haven't heard one person say it was good or even tolerable, really. Assassins Creed is also a pretty poor purchase in my opinion but some people like it so that's not a universal thing.

Yeah, with Assassin's Creed, I would rent it first and if you like it then you should buy it. After a while, the objectives start to get pretty repetitive though the first few hours are fun.

I picked up Lair because I played Heavenly Sword and mastered the SixaxiS aftertouch commands and was like, "Hey, how bad could it possibly be?" I can totally nail Flying Fox with his own ranged attacks, and like totally got all the medals with Kai, right?
Well, I had pretty low expectations, and to be honest, it failed my low expectations. The controls are downright BAD. When people say you try to do a dash maneuver and your dragon does a Split-S and you're like, "Haha, you're using the controller wrong". Well, YOU try to do a Dash and not fuck up and preform a split-S sometime. It happens, A LOT. Also, just standard flying gets annoying, no matter how much you baby your dragon. Then you have to do things like aim, and deal with eight thousand things going on and you don't even know where any of them are, in true Factor 5 style. Great art, great theme, great atmosphere, terrible gameplay. It's rogue squadron with dragons instead of X-wings. I mean, your dragons even pretty much have proton torpedo and laser cannon breath. In one arc, you have to blow up the ballistae and archers on top of a warbeast, and then *latch onto it with your chain hook and fly around it's legs to trip it*. Like I haven't done THAT before. |

Just get Uncharted, it kicks ass. Lair is well, kinda cruddy. I mean, it would be a decent bargain bin purchase, but not something Id get for full price. Good PS3 games that are out and exclusive: MO FUGGIN UNCHARTED! Resistance Ratchet Future Warhawk (Online only) Folklore (Im under the impression this would be what youd want) Ninja Gaiden Sigma (I didnt like it, most people did though, but if you have a 360, you can get an older version of it way cheaper) Heavenly Sword (I didnt much care for it though) Good PS3 games that are out and not Exclusive: Call of Duty 4 Assasins Creed Virtua Fighter 5 Oblivion Bladestorm Dynasty Warriors Gundam (if you like Warriors anyways) |
I played Warhawk at a PS3 demo, pretty good stuff. I like how the vehicles and rocket launchers are not auto-win in the game.

(Admittedly, I could be doing a better job about looking.) My only relatively minor complaint about Uncharted is that the baddies don't really come to your position nearly enough on the easier modes (Normal & Easy), prefering to stay behind cover. Yes, this makes the game a little easier, but I wouldn't have minded that extra challenge. SWB |
