What's Your Genre?

Some of us are writers....if you enjoy writing stories, poems, or making movies, what sort of genre do you prefer? I'm a lot for Humor/Action-Adventure, myself.

The pen is mightier than the Sword-chucks.

( :fighter: : Is not!)

I write a lot or fiction that is extremely loosley based on non-fiction. Usually from a humorous angle.

Fantasy and Sci Fi always seems far too cheesy for me.

I prefer a real world story with unreal characters who go on very strange adventures. I like extremes of comedy or drama, but I rarely combine the two or write non-extreme stories.

Ex: The guy is either an alcoholic who beats his kids or he's a straight shooter getting screwed by the corrupt system. Whether my main character is a human in the modern age or a mutant viper from the 32nd century depends on my mood.

I am a Sci-Fi nut. Steampunk (Like the game Arcanum), Futaristic Sci-Fi (Like Star Wars), Blending modern with Sci-Fi (I don't know, but I wrote a story where a modern detective tracked a cult that used advanced genetics and weapons technology.) If it invovles Sci-Fi, I will happily write it.

Mine would be Sci-Fi/humour. I enjoy writing and reading.

I recently completed a 50 page script for a movie I'm making:
The Matrices: Loaded Again.

filming is in progress, but the script is hillarious! (or so I am told)

Erotica...

No seriously, though, I like fantasy, with the spells and the swords and the dragons and what have you. I also like Sci-Fi, however...

Edit: Erotica IS easy to write. If I wasn't certain it's against forum rules, I'd demonstrate. Although the RP forum got wind of one sentence worth of erotica by me... but not a very graphic one.

Martyr 03-19-2004 12:40 AM

Erotica is strangely exhilirating, but I shy away from it on principal. Plus, I think it's easy to write. If it isn't, then it's a shame because I'm depriving the world of some really sick, yet alarmingly tittilating, junk.

Edit - Oh yeah. I hate poetry. Poetry always kicks my butt. I know how to write beautifully and make my audience read in wonder and amazement, but, if they asked me what my poem, full of symbolism and magic, is about, I'll have no clue.

Sci-fi...definitely sci-fi...mostly with futuristic military overtones. It's all I've ever really been able to write.

Yes! Those are some of the best Star Wars books written (The Thrawn Trilogy, and the two books that came after the first three). I also like the New Jedi Order and the invasion of the Yuuzhan Vong, although I am sad to admit I still haven't finished the last book for all those yet...

slightly aboveaverage man 03-19-2004 01:07 AM

SWEET ASS!
Thrawn Trilogy (and thrawn himself) are my favourites. (Hand of Thrawn Dualogy was the other one)
I'm hooked on the New Jedi Order, but havn't got around to looking for the last one.
I WANT TO KNOW HOW IT ENDS!

who is your fav Char?

Forever Zero 03-19-2004 01:12 AM

Well, for the Empire, Thrawn is the best villian ever, followed closely by Joruuth (I think that was his name, it has been too long since I've read that series...).

As for the New Jedi Order, Anakin was awsome SPOILER: up until he went hero on the Yuuzhan Vong and got killed on the worldship...

As for villians, the Yuuzhan Vong aren't very likable as villians, but once I would have said Nom Anor, but in the last few books he seems to have become a lot less kick butt and evil, and a lot more stupid and whiny...
