What Was Your First Comic?

Hark back, to those days of yore; those carefree, quiet summer days. Those days where everybody still said "Golly," and "Swell." Those days where you could get nearly anything you needed for a nickel. Where politicians were nobel, and people respected their elders. Where the sun shined every day and chased rain clouds away....

Remember those days? Neither do I. But I do remember that the first comic I ever read was the first issue of Spawn. My dad had the first two, mint condition... and he sold them at a yard sale for fifty cents apiece. If I knew then what I know now, I woulda bought 'em. But they brought me into the world of comic books, good, evil and my fascination with Heaven and Hell.

It might explain my fascination with the Spawn character as well; Spiderman gets his powers from something, Superman is born powerful, and Batman is just a really good martial artist with some nifty toys. Spawn was, to me, the only original comic book hero for a bit. He was the guy who became what he is because he loved his wife, but it's a choice that ends up tormenting him for the rest of his unlife.

'Kay, here's the deal: Al Simmons works as an assassin for the NHS. He has a wife that he loves, and he wants to start a family - so he quits. His boss, Jason Wynn, sends him on one last mission... that ends in Al being burned alive by his friend, Chapel. Now, Al wasn't a bad guy. But he killed people for a living, so he went to Hell. The Devil - Malebolgia - offered him a deal. Al wanted to go back to see his wife, and Malebolgia wanted someone to lead his army to Heaven's gates... and burn them down.

Al agrees, and becomes the newest Hellspawn... but he's unknowingly spent five years in Hell. His wife, Wanda, has remarried and has a child named Cyan. Spawn still carries his burned skin underneath his suit, and he views himself as a monstrosity, and goes through hundreds of feelings of internal agony. However, Hell has let Al see his wife. Al Simmons must become the newest Spawn, and lead Hell's armies to victory. But Al doesn't want to, so he spends his time taking up residence in an abandoned church in Rat City, a back alley, and generally just hanging out with the bums.

His mentor, Cogliostro, a former Spawn, tries to guide Al through his dealings, and the Clown, a Hell-sent teacher, tries to guide Al to lose control. To become a killing machine.

It's a very nifty series.

Good comic, good movie, good SNES game.

My first comic was...The first issue of Spiderman. It wasn't that great, especially then. My first comic that I really liked was the same as yours. Spawn for the win.

The first and near only comic I've ever read was Sonic.

Fucker liked them chillie dogs.

Definitely X-Men. It never really did it for me on the whole except for the 4-part Astonishing X-Men Age of Apocalypse series, wherein I found that Morph was totally awesome.

I think it was Spider Man...I used to watch his cartoon show as a kid...the good one back in the early nineties...also I liked Wolverine...

And Sonic did love those chilli dogs...

I honestly don't know. I spent a lot of my time reading some of my dad's old comic books, some of the ones still in good condition would probably be worth a lot (like X-Men #3). If I had to guess... Spider-man.

EDIT- I do remember getting a VERY cheesy Florida Marlins promotional comic, where Spider-Man teamed with Marlins mascot Billy The Marlin to stop Dr. Doom from kidnapping Jeff Conine, who was Doom's first 'draft pick' for the Latverian Baseball Team.

I swear I'm not making that up.

I must see this comic...except with out the Marlins and with the Red Sox.

So will the season also start in Latveria as well as Japan?

Batman had all my love. I also read occasional X-men, some spiderman and the crazy crossover stuff.
I have no idea the issues I started with though. Like stuff originally published in the 1970s, then packaged in compliations, shipped across the ocean, for me to read in the early 90s.

I swear to God I'm not making this up, but it was 8-bit Theatre about four years ago. I've just never interested in western comics and I did not have access to manga in my hometown until after a month or two after I started reading 8-bit, which was around the Sarda arc at that time.

Going through my brother's old Ghost Rider comics were my first.

I also had some old DC comics, back after the time when Kyle Rayner got sent back in time to Hal Jordan's time, then Hal and him were sent forward on accident together. It was also about the time of Ren and Stimpy comics, but don't ask how I got those.
