Gee thanks Nintendo. I know i already have the game but that's still bullshit =/

Meister 02-25-2008 09:30 AM

I'm gonna go ahead and say it's coming out here around Christmas. Such is my experience with Nintendo's publishing policies.

Your best option is either importing or modding or both. This is how Europe must be feeling:

What the fuck, Fils-Aimé? Use your gunboat diplomacy and do something! Like a gud Amerikan!

So, I'm assuming http://youtube.com/watch?v=CNdLECu0Zh4&feature=related is already known to everyone? It seems important. ( Also, I have no idea how to make that into a word so no one actually SEES the link in there )

You can use and instead of the stars. It will result in something like:
OH SHIT META KNIGHT IS TEH GAYZ!!!
Selfish Philanthropic 02-25-2008 08:28 PM

Perfect Shielding. I'm probably going to spend hours with two controllers just practicing that.

Oh, and Lucario "Dashing". Bizzare.

EDIT: Apparently, it's "fox trotting", whatever the hell that entails.

mudah.swf 02-26-2008 05:59 AM

Perfect Shielding is easy to do in Brawl since the timing is more lenient than Melee. You won't need to practice it much, if at all. "fox trotting" consists of tapping the controller forward or back in a certain way instead of holding it so you do a weird dash. It only moves you slightly faster than a regular dash so there's no real reason to do it at all.

Regulus Tera 02-26-2008 11:15 AM

What the fuck is up with Nintendo of Europe?

Quote:

While recounting some of the info that I learned from Nintendo of America’s President & COO, Reggie Fils-Aime, I implied that the European release of Super Smash Bros. [Brawl] had been moved to the fall of 2008…that’s not quite accurate, as neither NOE nor Reggie has announced any official release date at this time. Reggie did tell me (and the other media present) that the release had been pushed out of the winter/spring time frame due to the amount of localization required to get the game up and running all the various European languages. But Reggie did not say WHEN Europeans will get Smash Bros., just that it would be at a later date than the U.S.

If anyone wants to know how online play is I played a 3 player match with my brother and someone else also in England and it was great. Aside from the one or two lag spikes it was practically like playing offline.

I kinda figured it's because they're pretty much immediately disobeying Snake. Then again, I've noticed Peach seems to just be finding everything hilarious throughout the entire game, so maybe she's just had a few too many mushrooms.

Mirai Gen 02-26-2008 05:51 PM

God I hope one of her "Victory Goes To" things is just her giggling and waving at the camera.

Kerensky287 02-26-2008 06:14 PM

Geez, I wonder what Peach was like before the depression medication?

...But I'm getting increasingly excited about this game. That whole Shiek sequence seemed so.... ninja!

EDIT: Watching video 162... Pikachu's ladder-climbing sound effect sounds kind of like if the Halo 2 SMG fired bubbles. Also, Pikachu climbs ladders REALLY FAST. Holy crap

I think she and Shiek were busy playing around in there.
And thats horrible because zero-suit samus wasn't involved. If she had been, it would have been the greatest moment is history.

Tetra is a horrible pirate. A little girl all alone on a ship full of adult male sailors?

I can't tell if she's an idiot or if she's just ignorant, either way, in a few more years, i'm sure she's in for a few surprises.

I hope she carries protection at all times... by which I mean link.

Taken straight from GameFaqs... CODEC CONVERSATIONS!!

Quote:

Luigi:

Snake: That mustache...
Colonel: The number 2 of forever. (hahaha)
Snake: Hey, hey, we're talking about Luigi here!
Colonel: The so-called social outcast.
Snake: You don't have to have to put him down like that!
Colonel: You're soft Snake! There's no such thing as a little brother that is superior to his big brother!
Snake: What, what's wrong? Colonel?
Colonel: LaLiLuLeLo! LaLiLuLeLo! LaLiLuLeLo!
Snake: Colonel! Snap out of it! Colonel! Colonel!!!! (in a clear reference to when snake dies in the games)

Donkey Kong

Snake: Otacon, there's a gorilla wearing a necktie. It's huge.
Otacon: That's Donkey Kong. As you can see, he is a powerful one. He rules over the jungle, but he also has a really nice house. He has brains like that. The one who fought with Mario was actually his grandfather.
Snake: Well, that was then. Is he on good terms with Mario now?
Otacon: Not really, they compete a lot in kart racing and sports matches.
Snake: Not fighting with blood huh? (not sure about this one, it's a Japanese saying probably)

Samus:
Snake: Otacon, there seems to be a woman in a Power Suit...
Otacon: What? How did you figure out she's a girl? She's the Space Hunter, Samus Aran. A bounty hunter who travels through the galaxy. Be careful with her arm cannon. A max charge shot will hurt pretty badly.
Snake: This may be a challenge.
Otacon: She definitely won't be anything easy at all. Losing her parents to Space Pirates, she was raised by the Chozo, and learned their battle techniques. She's most likely lived a life far from our imagination. And that probably won't change in the future.
Snake: A woman covered with a cold demeanor...

Link:
Snake: Otacon, who is that swordsman?
Otacon: Link. He is the hero of Hyrule. That Master Sword he is carrying is also known as the Blade of Evil's Bane. Shield, boomerang, bombs, arrows, hookshot, he's a got quite an arsenal. It'd be wise to be cautious.
Snake: Weapons should be prepared based on the situation. I don't think just carrying a bunch of random weapons is exactly the best strategy.
Otacon: Um... Mind my manners please, but Snake?
Snake: What is it?
Otacon: Doesn't... the same go for you?

Pikachu:
Mei-Ling: Oh, kawaii!!
Snake: Oh, you mean that yellow guy over there?
Mei-Ling: That's Pikachu, a world renowned Pokemon. It may look cute, but be careful. His cheeks store high voltages of electricity. Its many electrical attacks will be tough to bear.
Snake: Well, I don't think it'll beat Ocelot's cruel questionings.
Mei-Ling: By the way, Snake?
Snake: What is it?
Mei-Ling: If possible, I want you to catch Pikachu.... can you do it?
Snake: Give me a break. I'm no Pokemon Trainer.
Mei-Ling: Hmph... Be that way.

Fox:
Snake: That's one fast fox!
Colonel: You're fighting Fox, I believe. You seem to be having some trouble there... The mercenary band Star Fox's leader, Fox McCloud. He travels around the Lylat System with the Special Fighter Ship "Arwing"; his fighting capabilities can even change the tide of flow in wars. ...You really have a thing with Foxes, don't you, Snake?
Snake: Enough about that. I've had enough of FOXes and FOXHOUNDs.
Colonel: Cheer up. In many ways, it's a long relationship

Bowser:
Colonel: Be careful Snake! King Koopa is there!
Snake: Koopa? That thing that looks like a kaiju (giant movie monster)?
Colonel: He's the leader of the Koopa army. Watch out for his strong arms and fire breath.
Snake: But he looks kinda slow. So he actually isn't weak?
Colonel: Since he is king of the Koopas, there is no doubt he is thickheaded. But on the other hand, he is heavier than any other fighter. So of course he has great destructive power. Watch out so you don't get crushed.

Ness:
Colonel: That young boy is Ness.
Snake: Ness?
Colonel: Although he's a young boy, Ness is a master at PSI.
Snake: You mean, like Psycho Mantis ?
Colonel: Yes, teleportation, telekinesis, levitation, psychokinesis (something)
Snake: Oh, so does that mean I have to change the controller port?

Kirby:
Otacon: Be careful, Snake!
Snake: What, you mean that round guy over there?
Otacon: That's Kirby. Also known as Kirby of the Stars. He's an alien from a distant planet. His endless stomach eats just about anything, and digests them without mercy. And by copying his prey's ability, then attacks the enemy's unsuspecting allies with his camoflouge to continue his feast. Also add his ability to fly. There won't be any way to get away from him once he has a lock on you. How horrifying...
Snake: Okaaaaay... right. Well, I'll be careful when fighting him.

Jigglypuff:
Snake: Theres something with large eyes walking around.
Colonel: That's Purin. (Jigglypuff's Japanese name)
Snake: Purin? Isn't that a dessert? (Purin/pudding... I guess they're closer in Japanese.)
Colonel: Purin is a balloon Pokemon. It's filled with air that makes you drowsy. So it has the power to make you sleep.
Snake: Sleep? But I guess this is no ordinary sleep.
Colonel: Although it's a brief nap, if you are near it a staggering energy reaction will happen. If you take that it will be an instant KO.
Snake: So it's at her best while sleeping? This thing is over the top.
Colonel: It's a big world, especially in Super Smash.

Falco:
Snake: This is Snake...
Slippy: You called, Snake? This is Slippy!
Snake: What the...Who is this frog-like guy?
Slippy: Heh, I went through the trouble to say hello to you with some valuable info, and that's the reply I get?
Snake: Blatantly hacking into our system, huh....
Slippy: Don't worry, I won't break anything.
Snake: ...
Slippy: Falco, just like Fox, is equipped with the blaster and reflectors I invented. But Falco uses the reflector by kicking it. I guess he's trying to show off with it.
Snake: ...there should be no problem in using weapons in multiple ways. Your weapons being used in many ways... wouldn't that prove how well made they are?
Slippy: I guess so. I feel better now! Thanks Snake!
Snake: I'd like to have one of your weapons the next time you've invented a new one.

Ganondorf:
Snake: What's this thirst for blood I feel from this giant!? I can feel my skin tremble just by getting close.
Otacon: Snake! Ganondorf is dangerous! He plans to control the world, and he has the power to do it! His name of King of Evil is definitely fitting.
Snake: With him as an enemy, can modern weapons even beat him?
Otacon: Look at everyone else. They're fighting with swords and bare hands. You have guns, isn't that good enough? Spouting complaints isn't like you, Snake.
Snake: Just thought I'd ask. I'll do my duty.

ROB:
Otacon: It looks like you're fighting Robot, Snake.
Snake: There are lots of things called Robot. Isn't there something better to call him?
Otacon: In America it's called ROB. So I guess that's what we can call it.
Snake: Yeah.
Otacon: In Japan, Robot had a white body and red arms which were called the Famicom colors. But foreign Famicoms were gray, so ROB became all gray.
Snake: It's no surprise you know these kinds of things pretty well, Otacon.
Otacon: Yeah.

Mr. G&W:
Snake: IT'S FLAT!! A FLAT MAN'S WALKING!!
Otacon: That's Mr. Game and Watch, an inhabitant of Flat Zone. The G&W is a handheld system that Nintendo released in 1980; it was an LCD game that shows the characters the way calculators do. That character from it is the Mr. Game&Watch you see in front of you.
Snake: What an odd opponent. Can you explain to me in an easy way to understand what sort of creature he is?
Otacon: Uh... well, you might grasp something by fighting him.

Diddy Kong:
Snake: Otacon, there's a chimpanzee wearing a Nintendo hat.
Otacon: That's Diddy Kong. Donkey Kong's sidekick. He's not just swift, he carries several weapons too. He flies with the Barrel Jet on his back, and fires nutshells with his peanut popgun.
Snake: Nutshells, as in the ones that hold peanuts?
Otacon: Yes, and it's not just that. When a shell explodes, sometimes a peanut pops out. Eating one of these would heal your stamina.
Snake: Wow... An edible bullet. Times have changed.

Olimar:
Mei Ling: Snake, have you heard of Zhen Zhong Ji's "Brief Dream of Prosperity?"
Snake: Nope, I haven't.
M: (some proverb) Although Olimar brings a lot of Pikmin, they quickly die. It's often through transporting, fighting, and being eaten. Olimar can increase the number of colleagues, but if you pay attention, he's quickly alone. It's kind of sad.
S: But can't he just pluck some more?
M: Well, I guess so.
S: There's no such thing as a person who fights alone. I don't.
M: Good luck Snake. I'm here to help.

Sonic:
Snake: ...Grr...
Otacon: What's wrong, Snake?
Snake :Somehow, I can't like this hedgehog...
Otacon: Hm? Oh, you mean Sonic the Hedgehog. He's a big star everyone knows. For a long time, everyone wanted him as a fighter for the brawl.
Snake: I know that, but I still don't like this guy being here.
Otacon: Why's that? Is there a reason why he shouldn't be?
Snake: ...No, I don't know why.

(Sonic's is actually a joke because hedgehogs eat snakes in real life)

Snake

Snake: Colonel! It can't be!
Colonel: What is it, Snake?
Snake: Seems like there's yet another clone of Big Boss. And he's made it into the game!
Colonel: Calm down Snake, that's not another clone. It seems you're fighting someone else who's also picked your character with a different color scheme.
Snake: What!? How's that possible!? He can't be me! I'm me!
Colonel: It's a game Snake. If Masahiro Sakurai says so, then it can.

Captain Falcon
Snake: "Whoa! That's Captain Falcon, isn't it?"
Otacon: "You know your facts well! He's an F-Zero Pilot. He's racer number 7!"
Snake: "Whenever you talk about Captain Falcon, we can't forget "that". I've always wanted to do "that" once."
Otacon: "Oh, "that"! Alright! Let's give it a try!!"
Snake: "FALCON PUUNCH!!"
Otacon: "FALCON KIICKK!!"

Toon Link
Snake: "Mei-Ling, who is that guy with the cat eyes?"
Mei-Ling: "He goes by Toon Link. We've seen him somewhere before, right?"
Snake: "Yeah, he's like Link."
Mei-Ling: "Even though you just say "Link", there are many other people who've used that name. Although there are many similarities, they lived in different eras. Branching time, passing through history, the hero of the Triforce that risks his life for Hyrule."
Snake: "That reminds me of another guy..."
Mei-Ling: "Huh? Who do you mean?"

Wolf:

S:Colonel, there's a guy who looks like a wolf...
C:That is "Wolf"!
S:There's no twist to the name, huh?
C:The leader of the rulfian unit "Starwolf," he is an old enemy of "Starfox".
S:Though he is a wolf, did he go with a comerade?
C:It seems like group action is a weak point. He is remarkably skilled as a pilot. The combat group he operates, "Wolfen" is quite stron.
S:This time it's a physical battle, I must not underestimate his strength.
C:Be careful not to get torn up by his sharp claws, Snake.

Pokemon Trainer
Snake: "The one instructing the Pokemon from the background, he's a Pokemon Trainer?"
Campbell: "That Pokemon Trainer is carrying Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard."
Campbell: "They're powerful Pokemon that represent the Water, Grass, and Fire type respectively."
Campbell: "He prepares them to fight, then watches on. A good position, isn't it."
Snake: "You could say that. When the Pokemon fight, it's on the Pokemon Trainer's orders."
Campbell: "On the battlefield, a soldier who manages field strategy and evaluates the progress of war is indespensible."
Campbell: "If they maintain a good combination together, their power is probably multiplied."
Campbell: "That's why we also work well together. Don't you think, Snake?"
Snake: "...All right, thanks for your help."

Lucario
Mei Ling: "You're fighting Lucario? Snake."
Snake: "Mei Ling, what is the purple flame coming out of the guy's hand?"
Mei Ling: "That's 'wave'." (Note: In Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, "wave" was translated as "aura.")
Snake: "'Wave'?"
Mei Ling: "Something like lifeforce. Lucario controls its own wave, and that's what is shining with power.
Mei Ling: "Lucario increases its wave when it takes damage, becoming stronger."
Mei Ling: "So, don't let your guard down saying, 'Since I did a lot of damage to it...'."
Snake: "You're saying, 'A cornered rat is dangerous'? ... What a nuisance."
Mei Ling: "Oh? Even Snake uses proverbs occasionally. How surprising."
Snake: "It's thanks to you."
Mei Ling: "When you come back, I'll teach you plenty of Chinese proverbs."

More to come later.

Naked Snake, Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake?

Edit: It could also be "Boss", but I think that's too self-referential.

I hope they don't give Wolf his shitty-non-British Star Fox Assault accent. And you're right, Mirai. Falco does say he prefers the air.

Kerensky287 02-29-2008 03:40 PM

On the competitive vs casual picture: IT'S OVER 9000!!!! (top left)

About the voice acting: So a good half of the characters have voices, and yet the story mode is entirely without dialogue?

Also, Ike's voice reminds me of Thunderbirds for some reason.

Regulus Tera 02-29-2008 03:55 PM

When the other half of the roster doesn't have actual voices it kind of makes it difficult for them to start a conversation.

Meta-Knight sounds like Darth Vader, and that's awesome.

I really don't mind the voice acting too badly. Beats the hell out of the Engrish in Melee.

"MISSHON, COMPREET!"

I demand that when Wolf wins a fight he should say, "You're good, but I'm better!"

Completely and utterly seconded.

And when you Smash him hard enough to send him flying? "What the heck...?!"

The Wizard Who Did It 02-29-2008 05:21 PM

Makes me wish Pigma was in the game. For some reason, the line "You can't beat me, I have a better ship!" made me laugh so very hard.

Also, "I! CAN'T! LOSE!"

Falco's Brawl accent is identical to his SF:Assault accent.

Just call him Ash and get it over with. I know I will.

"Are you playing Pokemon Trainer?"
"No, I'm playing Ash."

Not necessarily. Ash uses mainly Pikachu, which obviously is not among the PT's team. Pokémon Trainer is based on Red from Red/Blue and Gold/Silver, who in turn was based on Red from the Pokémon Special manga (aka best pokémon trainer ever). However, it's obvious NoA wanted to cater to the anime's fanbase when including Ash's voice in the game.

So, in other words: Red (manga) > Red (video games) >>>>>>>> Ash Shitchum (worst pokémon trainer ever WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH HIM WHY DOES HE LET ALL HIS BEST POKÉMON FREE AS IF HE CAPTURED ANY OTHERS FUCK)

Just to note, though:

Team Rocket >>>>>>>>> All.

Prepare for trouble, bitches.

Donomni 03-02-2008 02:21 PM

Oh, I'm supposed to say something now?

Ok, then...

Um...

Line?

No, wait- got it.

Well, I guess it's nice they gave a nod to the dude... too bad I grew up around the old voice actor. :gonk:

Release is a Sunday so I doubt it.

Regulus Tera 03-02-2008 10:09 PM

So my best friend just told me he bought Brawl today.

It's available... in Mexico.

Squall Leonhart 03-02-2008 10:58 PM

You just gotta love how people around here don't give a damn about schedules. I'll be going to pick it up tomorrow if all's well. Suckers!

bananarama 03-02-2008 11:00 PM

I would feel upset about that piece of news.... if I had a Wii to begin with :(....

Regulus Tera 03-03-2008 10:46 AM

And the horrible voice acting continues. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLF!!!!!!!!!! ;___;

Highlights: "I will be the one to... take you down."
"Tasty."

Lord Setheris 03-03-2008 11:23 AM

Lucario has to have his daily dose of aura. Its like crack to fighting/steel type pokemon!
At least it seems like it is.

Come time for the next big anime convention around here, or star wars, or star trek, or clash of the titans, or hello kitty... regardless of WHAT convention it is, I'm going to call up my CRAZIEST high school buddies, Brandon, Shea, and Kevin... we'll all dress up as SSBB characters... and we'll have a showdown right in the middle of the convention for no reason. I will be sure to video and youtube this event for all to see. I'll probably edit in percentages as well.

What the hell happened to Tiny?

I recall her being this short, stubby thing whose high pitched "WHEEEEeeeee!" rings on in my ears even today. Was this another trophy error (*coughBlackKnightcough*) or what?

And on that note, I'm glad they kept Tingle in his WW form. Nobody needs to see a high-res pic of that thing.

Demonlink2 03-03-2008 02:54 PM

Man the wasted opportunity from the translation team on Snake's code...

"OH NO, A CLOEN" as opposed to Colonel talking about how all-powerful Sakurai is.

I would have found the latter more amusing...

Assuming this isn't a rhetorical question, that's how she looks in Bongo Blast, apparently. So, it's not an error, but that doesn't make it any less confusing.

Also, on the subject of voices, Falco and Wolf now both have appeal to me which they lacked before, thanks to their wonderfully awful voices. If I play as Wolf, it's an excuse to talk trash with a southern accent. Same with Falco, except a Brooklyn accent, which I can't do nearly as well or as easily.

Loyal 03-03-2008 05:11 PM

It's really not Starfox at all without subpar or out-of-place voice acting.

With the exception of Pigma. Pigma is a total jerk and therefore deserves a good voice actor, if only so he can get the "this guy is a repulsive dick and you want to kill him several times over because he's such a dick." vibe going down right.

Mirai Gen 03-03-2008 06:32 PM

And, of course, Andrew is completely fucking annoying.

I think that Star Fox really needs more story to it's universe, since the universe is really interesting and I'd like to see something a little more in depth, something that elaborates on each planet of the Lylat system.

Wait, no, if you do that there'd be official furry Star Fox mangas everywhere.

Exactly. The moment Star Fox started taking itself seriously and stopped being a Star Wars parody/homage was the moment it started to suck.

Loyal 03-03-2008 06:50 PM

More info on each planet (Especially Solar* and Zoness, Aquas to a lesser extent) would be nice, but other than that keep it a plain (read: AWESOME) rail shooter.

* I can't tell if it's a sun or just a molten planet. But since SF64 had you flying along its "Surface"...

Well, there were a few comics a few years back. And I'm not talking about those Nintendo Power ones. I'm sayin' those 'bout Star Fox 64 and the pre-Adventures one.

Just ask nicely and I'll be sure to hand 'em over.

To be fair, I think that the gameplay was what sucked and it's story being teenie emo drama with Arwings was just a really lousy coincidence. (Star Fox Command and Assault, for example)

It seems strange but what I really want is them to make it more like Star Wars and less like Fox and Krystal Are Sorta Like Romeo And Juliet If You Think About It.

EDIT:NUKLEARPEDIA WII FRIEND CODES PAGE! GO PUT YOURS IN NOW!

You know, when it comes out.

Aww, man, so Fox and Krystal are brother and sister? Well, that just makes the SFC ending where they have a child just disturbing...

...But yeah, they've done something wrong with just about every game since SF64. The main thing I noticed in SF Assault was that you spent most of your time outside the Arwing, and the problem with being IN the Arwing was that, unlike the 3-shot burst in 64, your ship was now single-shot before the lasers began chargin'. Completely ruins dogfights when you have to mash the button or hope they don't do a loop-dee-loop.

Selfish Philanthropic 03-03-2008 11:23 PM

Wow, I haven't preordered Brawl. I suck. I'm sure there will be plenty of extra copies in this Podunk, however...

Now, Brawl related stuff.

Any of you people planning to attend that Gamestop Brawl tournament? I've got one 10 minutes from me, and hoping that winner gets some sort of prize. If not it at least kills time for midnight release.

Regulus Tera 03-03-2008 11:29 PM

Nope, but I plan to have a long eversweet all-night session of online brawling with Mirai and BlackHBMage this Sunday. <3

Selfish Philanthropic 03-03-2008 11:35 PM

I think I'll just skip all my classes on Monday and play Subspace Emissary. I'm fairly certain there won't be anything important occuring on Monday... Besides an exam. Not like I need to take those or anything. Exams are temporary; Super Smash Brothers is eternal.

phil_ 03-03-2008 11:54 PM

I sure hope Gamestop doesn't sell the copy I preordered in August while I'm on vacation. Oh, who am I kidding? It's Gamestop; of course they'll sell it and tell me it's my fault for not reserving two or subscribing to their magazine or whatever.

So I'll probably just go to Walmart and get it, like I did with No More Heroes. Then I'll have to get somebody to add my friend code to the list.

I'll see what I can do. If Kat hijacks the main TV we might just have to re schedule.

Hugs n kisses sweetie.

Lord Setheris 03-04-2008 01:09 AM

My copy is arriving tuesday.
