Apparently launch Wiis have difficulty reading the disc.
|
Yeah, my Wii went through a "SYSTEM UPDATE" when I put in Brawl.
First thoughts: Pit and Ike are a lot of fun, Pits Up-B will take some planning. I haven't quite figured it out yet. Ike is slow but hits like a Motherfucker. Lucas actually disappointed me; his controls were slower than I expected. Announcer's voice pronouncing King DEE DEE DEE's voice sucks. Also, landmasters are really huge in comparison to the Battlefield stage. |
So yeah, turns out the tournament was random characters.
I lost, FYI. |
Just to cover what was said about... 3 posts ago? (Too lazy to check)
My Wii was a PRE-Launch Wii, and I have had no problems, aside from an update. The update to let it read DOUBLE LAYER DISKS! (DUN DUN DUN.) I was poking around, and some modding community (One that mods wiis to make them look nice, of course! No piracy!) and they had looked around in the wiis firmware, only difference was apparently that brawl is a DVD-DL |

Had some laggy FFA matches online, still pretty fun.
|
I see a bunch of people claiming to have Brawl, but mine is the only Brawl Code on Nuklearpedia.
Going to sleep now, been playing SSE. |
I'll add my FC onto there just as soon as I make an account on there.
|
Been playing The Subspace Emissary non-stop. I just recruited Mr. Game & Watch. Awesome game is awesome. I'll post my friend code after I finish it.
|
Yeah, I think everyone is gonna keep playing Subspace first. <_<
Anywho, I should be getting Brawl later today. |
I can't make mine work! It doesn't even recognize it as a Wii game. What should I do?
|
Yeah I'll be sure to post my friend code once I'm done with SSE, I really want to unlock everyone (or at least most of them). Then I'll have to get my Wii hooked up to the internet and figure out where the hell to look to identify my friend code for you guys.
|
Was SUKAI one of you? If so then GGs there. Nice Lucas.
e: nope, it wasn't. don't mind this post. |
Quote:
You got to update the system. Go to configuration settings. |

*sniff* Paper Mario is the only Wii game I own that doesn't run like shit. Anyway, I picked up Brawl this afternoon. As soon as my shift at work ends, I'm gonna pretend I don't have homework and play until the early hours of the morning. And then wonder why the hell I stayed up till two a.m. when I have to get up at six to go to school. Ahhh, yes. Good times. |
Got snowed in and we still got it- we are stuck in "the Great Maze" and any help would be appreciated, you know, like a FUCKING MAP OR WALKTHROUGH GAMEFAQS YOU SUCK.
Edit: Got it. Never mind, beating game now. |
I pre-ordered my copy online since I knew our GameStop would be sold out, and the internet told me we weren't getting any in at Costco (where I work); I believed it, 'cause we didn't get Mario Galaxy when that came out. My copy'll be here tomorrow. In the meantime we got 200+ copies in at my work today for ten dollars less than what I paid. >.<
I could be playing it right now! T.T I give up. |
This game is awesome and I think the story is epic. Now I will return to my precious Wii for more violent screaming.
I'm only 3*% through the Subspace Emissary, but is it just me, or is the role that ROB takes place in it really sad? Being used and all, ya know. |
SSE is great. Just beat it. Had the game for roughly 12 hours.
That's right this is a 12 hour game. |
I played for 4 hours and got 33% of the way through, so that sounds just about perfect.
...Of course, I was playing with my little brother and his friend, and co-op SSE isn't all that well thought-out because you lose if Player 1 dies with no lives remaining (so Player 2 is just a parasite), and we had to restart the level about 10 times because they just suck so much.... ...But I love using Pit and Snake! Great fun. Ike is great too. I use Wiimote + Nunchuck controls and find it better than original GC controller... but I still find it a little odd that holding the A button makes your character just combo really really fast. PIKACHU HAS SEIZURES! Rant over. I'll post my FC on nuklearpedia tomorrow, probably. Still haven't beaten Classic Mode. Only 4 characters unlocked. |
I'm decent with Zero Suit Samus.
Also, HATE LUCAS GOD DAMNIT WHY DOES HE SUCK SO MUCH D:. (Translation I suck with Lucas and I blame him for it. :D) |
I... I didn't get it.
*Cries* I had to go to a stepbrother's birthday party, and I couldn't make it for the midnight release. Maybe... maybe I can find something if I look hard enough. |
This game feels alot like Kingdom Hearts. Not in the fact it's all these worlds combined, but the monster designs.
|
Quote:
Also, I don't have it (or a Wii for that matter...). BUT luckily two of my friends got it and are bringing it to school and they're willing to let me borrow it during my free period :) |
Great Maze Galleon is such bullshit. Not only is he the boss with the most cheap kill moves, but the path to him is the deadliest in the whole maze.
|
01d55, I'm up for a match right now. I already added you.
ALSO I'M MAINING LUCAS HAHAH FENRIS YOU GONNA GET YOUSE ARSE KICKED |
Quote:
Also, can anybody tell me exactly how long SSE is? And how different are the playthroughs with different characters? |
Also, Pikachu's thunder is too damn powerful now. Especially since the bolt has knockback.
|
For the record, I'm having lots of trouble adapting to the Wiimote + Nunchuk. I wish I had some GC controllers, but oh well, I shall evolve.
|
Quote:
EDIT: Remember how I said Galleon had the most cheap-kill moves of any boss? I was wrong. This new guy has a move that appears to be a guaranteed kill no matter where you are or what you do. |
Whee! I played up to 33% of SSE in about 3 hours. I'm adapting to the Wiimote and Nunchuck, but still having difficulty with grabbing people. Also with remembering that the C and Z buttons are there. The other problem is the fact that the Wii is in my parents' room and they get fed up with the playing after a while.
I like Pit, fast and agile physical moves along with the excellent recovery move, 'Wings of Icarus'. It's very useful. His only real weakness is a lack of real smash moves. I hit Luigi when he had 180% and he still didn't leave the screen. Then he comes back and blasts me off when I had 80%. =v_v= Lucas is also pretty awesome. I love both the Up Smash he has and PK Freeze. Yay, icecubes! Great secondary jump, only killed by a lack of a useful third jump. I keep missing or hitting him in the wrong direction with PK Thunder. Nice physical moves, too. Meta Knight is a god of swordsplay. If you can get up close and not blasted back, you can slice up an average of 40 extra % in one go, before falling back and following through with a stronger attack. Pokemon Trainer! I like all of the pokemon, but Charizard and Ivysaur don't seem to have that much of a balance in moves. They're useful in certain situations, sure, but I find myself switching to Squirtle to compensate. Aw, well. I suppose that's why there's three of them. I hate Dedede. Too slow up close, the only good things being his B Up and B Side. On the subject of Pikachu, I'm liking the power-ups, especially considering he was my main in Melee. Much longer range and power with Skull Bash, and while the Thunder isn't as wide as it used to be, it makes up for it in height and power. Pika pika pikachu! |
I did the Gamestop tourney today. Ours was rescheduled due to snow problems. A foot and a half will do that. Fun.
Ouch Miria on the random characters. We got to choose ours. I won though, and i got a ridiculous trophy for it. I was Peach in fact. Only two people used new characters, both meta knights. Here's the proof: [imghide]http://aycu02.webshots.com/image/484...0759005_rs.jpg[/imghide] By the way, don't ask about the text after it, I don't know either. |
That trophy is way too ridiculous. Seriously, what were they thinking!?
|
Okay I beat SSE. The final boss has a move that looks unavoidable but Metaknight can get out of it with air dodges. I only ever did it once though, and that wasn't the time I beat it.
EDIT : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqgrjaTt_KM found a video of SSE final boss on intense. |
Quote:
Seriously, no fucking way. Please tell me the managers on site - my friends - weren't so fooled by a stupid district manager. I am now much angrier. |
Yoshi's Final Smash is amazing! I'm in love. I am an unholy green angel of death that wears leather boots. All tremble in fear below me.
Changing topic- I can't seem to find the way to set up a wifi match that is stock instead of crappy timed brawl. |
You can only do that With Friends. Refering you to here: http://nuklearpedia.com/doku.php?id=friend_codes

Nintendo's pretty OCD at preventing pedophiles from offering kids to go into their van and play dress-up.
God, they always kill it for the rest of us. The pedophiles, I mean. |
I've been playing the living crap out of this game. I already unlocked all the characters and stages. I think I'll mostly use Luigi, he was my favorite in Melee and he's almost identical in Brawl.
I guess now I'll try to get all the music and trophies or something. |
So, will we be setting up an NPF Brawl Tournament any time soon? Because I'm in. Don't know when it is, don't CARE when it is, I'm in.
So far, I main Pit, but I've only unlocked about 5 characters. Still looking forward to Wolf. I'm also not half bad with Pikachu and Ike. EDIT: I just checked Gamefaqs for info on unlocking characters because I just beat Classic with Ike, thinking it would let me unlock Jigglypuff. Interestingly enough, it turns out that the ONLY character who doesn't unlock Jigglypuff after Classic mode is Ike. "Complete Classic Mode with any character other than Ike or Complete Event Match 20 or 350 VS matches" Just out of curiosity... why the hell is that necessary? |
Quote:
It's pretty weird; we've beaten classic, what, five or six times? |
Quote:
Because using Ike unlocks Marth. |
Wow, am I the only person that unlocked almost everyone (excluding Wink, Jiggly and Wolf) just by playing through SSE? cause, that's totally how I unlocked EVERYONE. And then I went and played events, and Jiggly and Wink came up at the end of 10 events then the end of 20 events.
I just need to unlock wolf, and the game is beat. |
You also need to obtain ALLLLL the trophies and the most important thing.
MUSIC. I played lots and lots of 1v1 matches with 1 stock only to obtain all the characters through Captain Falcon. Then I said fuck off and went TSE. WARNING FOR THOSE WHO IT MAY CONCERN: Snake's codec for Lucas has HUGE MOTHERFUCKING SPOILERS FOR MOTHER 3, so if you want to play that game whenever the fan translation is out you better not hear that codec. Lucas' trophy spoils the basic plot of MOTHER 3 and some of the spoilers mentioned before, there is a fight with the main villain of MOTHER 3 in SSE, and there is also a trophy of another boss whose description tells how to defeat it in MOTHER 3. Outside of one character returning from EarthBound, no other MOTHER 3 characters are mentioned. |
Event 25.
The experience is like Galleom in the Great Maze, except the pace is much quicker. |
It's me, I'm playing in this video: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4n...sam_videogames
I'm ZSS. Laugh at how bad we all are. |
Well I managed to get in about two hours worth of Brawl last night. No SSE yet, and since I was playing with my sister I couldn't unlock anyone via beating classic, so the only person I've unlocked so far is Ness. I fail.
I'm actually liking Diddy Kong. He's pretty quick, and his side B move is freaking hilarious. Other than that, I'm still maining Yoshi. It might just be me, but I think some of his midair moves have a better range now. I haven't gotten to try his Final Smash yet (STUPID LINK STEALING ALL MY GODDAMN SMASH BALLS!!!), though. |
Quote:
Also, I've been maining Ike for the last 30-ish hours (been playing with friends, unlocked everyone, etc.), and all I can say is that I'm loving how he plays. He hits like a hammer, and he's otherwise well-rounded. A bit on the slow side, but meh. |
Played through some of SSE, in school right now but doing some more when I get out.
Ike still handles like a very slow whore that kills you at 60%. Which means I'll be sub weapon buttoning him. Pit handles fine, kills faster than Meta Knight (I did an online match with a friend; His MK put me at 180 and failed and I hit him up to 150% and killed.) but moves just as fast. I think I've got a hang of his up-B but still wish it were better. I guess this is balance or something. As for ONLINE, everything seems to move a bit slower so any quick reactions that the opponet (or yourself) would try to make get lagged out most of the time, but it still funcitons quite well. I beat him out 8/9 times (All victories with Pit and Ike...I lost when I tried to use Luigi). |
...Hmm. So, Pit and Ike are fairly popular characters? I've gotta try playing as somebody else then, just so we don't end up with just those two guys like in the Shiek vs Marth vs Fox tournaments.
Also, assuming we'll have a tournament at some point (I'll set one up myself if one doesn't turn up before I do), have the basic tourney rules changed much? I mean, sure, you could still have Final Destination No Items, but you could have a variety of levels instead - including custom maps - that would function just as well. In addition, I don't know if the Smash Ball counts as an item for that purpose; it's really well balanced, and without it you can't use your character's full moveset. In my opinion, a good tournament would have all items except instant-death items (OMFG GOLDEN HAMMER SO BROKEN AAAHHH) and simply random maps every time - I think that part of the "skill" of the game is to use the environment to your advantage. Of course, I never played competitively... and am still nowhere near competitive level... but whatever. It's a new game, and I feel some of that potential is wasted if you just play one level. |
I'm near the end of that hellish "Maze" level. God damn is that thing long. My percentage complete is around 84% or so I'll definitely be finishing this when I get off work later. It's too bad I'll probably crash later since I was up until 4am playing it and had to get up at 7am today for work. Ugghh....

I've for some reason taking a liking to Dedede. He's slow but I think I've gotten a good handle on him. I haven't played the game enough to experiance every character enough to find everything. (Only got 12 or so hours in because of sleep, work, and school) But I'm going to be playing this alot online and multiplayer. So find me online (friend code on Nuklearpedia) and have some fun!
Well... I suck I'm sure compared to a few of you, but practice makes perfect! |

I'm the Mario in this match. I do better this time. |
Brawl is out! My life is now complete. Oh, man. I'm completely inundated in schoolwork now, otherwise I would be playing until my eyes bleed. I'm going to play so much this weekend that it'll make me nauseous, though. Oh, and I'll post my Brawl friend code ASUP.
This game handles very differently from Melee (for me, anyways). Beyond the obvious transition from Gamecube controller to Wiimote/Nunchuck, everything seems a little bit slower, with character's moves a little more pronounced. Characters have a very "floaty" feel in Brawl, much more so than the lead weights from Melee. I'm sure other people have noticed this as well, regarding characters: Every single one of them is fun to play! Unlike Melee, I can select any character in Brawl and genuinely enjoy playing with them. My favorite so far, as I had expected, is the Pokemon Trainer. He has three completely different playstyles available, and you have to master all of them to succeed. Very fun. |

[edit] on topic, you know what really makes this thing addictive. It spoon-feeds you content at a perfect rate. Just as your starting to get bored with something you unlock a new character, or level, or event. Its actually kinda sadistic, this must be what cracks like |
Meta Knight is just like we've been thinking: Quick, fast, and no ability to knock enemies out... I actually didn't like playing him in SSE.
Also, got past The Path to The Ruins, and I've only gotten Marth unlocked. Oh, and holy fuck you get a lot of coins in this game. |
Quote:
I've got four essays and a class presentation that are getting in the way of my Kick Ass With Yoshi time!!!! |
I've got 2thousand I could use for the coin game.
I used 200 for 14 trophies. You're going to need those Holy fuck a lot of coins. EDIT: Code up. IM me if'n you're looking for a fight and I'll tell you if I'm in class or can fight. |
Brawl Explooosioon

And it is glorious. I went to my brother's house and played Rock Band from about 5 until 11-ish, and then we headed out to Wal Mart for the release of brawl (neeerds) and I am proud to report that my group was the first people to purchase brawl from wal mart. >=D Then we went back and played the crap out of it (I am happy to say that I won the very first round of brawl) until 5 am, and then slept, woke up at about 10 and played some more. THEN I went over to my roommate/best friend's house and played again until about 3 in the morning. Then we woke up about 11ish and played until 3 in the afternoon today. We didn't even stop for lunch. Holy cow have I played Brawl. We finished the Subspace Emissary this morning. I have to say, that was probably the most fun story mode I've ever seen on a fighting-type game. It was practically a game all by itself. And Shiek drinking tea is possibly the best thing I have ever seen. I noticed that in the beginning of the Subspace Emissary, that it switched who gets kidnapped between Zelda and Peach. Does it change the story any depending on who it happens to? I really like using Lucas, he's a lot like Ness but faster, it seems. (although Ness saved my butt on the final battle in the Subspace Emissary.) And, as I expected, Metaknight is awesome. We just got Sonic before I had to leave, so I haven't had a lot of play time with him, but I like his final smash a lot. Sadly, I don't have a Wii (I was just playing my brother's and my friend's) so now I must go back to my non brawling... Oh well, I think I need it after 20+ hours of playing. EDIT: I may have a friend code later, once I get a Wii at college and hooked up to the internet. Although I'm not sure when that will be. |
I haven't been on much because I just got the game but still have to go to work and school and such.
Pretty fun. Got to say, I love the sheer amount of random stuff in Adventure Mode. (spoilers for about 50% complete) Running through a base, escaping on Captain Falcon's ship, and then BAM! Meta-Ridley out of nowhere. Genius. I'll put up my Friend Code when I actually have time for on-line play. Probably Wednesday. |
Finished SSE in one go. Now I can make Sonic and Mario fight to my heart's content.
I wish Sonic had done a bit more in SSE. I was sort of hoping there'd be a team-up fight with him and Mario. He's an interesting character. I'm working on mastering him right now. His super is freaking awesome though. I have yet to not KO all of my opponents at least once with it. What's this I hear about codecs? |
Quote:
Jigglypuff: Return to Swamp. On the last part of the level where you are shooting yourself through barrels, stop on the platform below the new door. Go in and beat Jigglypuff, then finish the stage. Wink: Return to Forest. On thefirst portion of the level after the first mini-battle with a few Primids, a new door appears. Go in and beat Toon Link, then finish the stage. Wolf: Return to Ruins. At the end of the second part of the level, go to the bottom of the elevator shaft instead of going into the door (don't worry when the elevator disappears, just fall) and into the new door that appears there. Beat Wolf, then finish the stage. Quote:
|
So if you lose to one of the three "extras" in SSE, it counts as stage clear for whatever difficulty you're on. Which is kind of annoying because you have to go all the way through it again for a rematch.
|
I know it probably isn't intended, but Snake's pronunciation of pokemon "pokiemon" fills me with glee.
The games pronunciation of Ike is somewhat less humorous, however. |
I know it probably isn't intended, but the announcer pronouncing Dedede as DEE DEE DEE really pisses me off.
(Yes I stole your sentence structure Bit.) |
BLARGH Finally beat the last SSE boss on Hard. Not doing that again for a long time. STUPID OHKO MOVES. Maybe I'll try Very Hard when I'm feeling masochistic enough. That said, Event Mode is feeling not so difficult. It has the right amount of challenge I need. Lovin' it in Hard. <3
I'm gonna be online from 9PM to 10 PM Central Time, if anyone wants to Brawl during that time. |
Ok once I get this Nuklearpedia page thing working I'll post my friend code up. Feel free to issue me a challenge, don't beat on me too bad.
Edit: It's up, who wants to play? |
Quote:
Not bothering with tougher difficulties until characters unlocked. Need people stages things etc. |
And so I arise from my grave of hiatus-ville to say that I am one plus Brawl gained, and itching for a fight. My code is in my profile (Or, if you're a lazy sonuvagun, it's 1375-6882-3512) and I will except all challenges. PM with your code (because I'm a lazy sonuvagun) saygin that you added me, I'll add you, and we can commence teh BRAWLIN'! (I'll usually be on any time between 4:00 and 11:00 EST, but it's usually pretty hit-or-miss.)
On The SSE: I am currently 51% is and holy mother of Jove is it a ride. I'm currently working on beating the game, then I'll go back and get the things I missed, including secret characters. Havin' a blast, but currently letting my brother take a turn at it. Query: Has anyone gotten onto a random online match yet? I always seem to time out, and I don't know if it's Nintendo's servers or my connection... |
Quote:
And holy cow, you guys are beating it on hard? Maybe I don't want to play online (I'll get my butt kicked!) I beat it on normal and thought it was pretty tough. ^^; Also, does anyone know if you can get the snapshots taken in Brawl to transfer over to the photo channel in the wii (without using an SD card or anything?) |
Brawl Friend code is 2535 3329 1775
|
Brawl arrived while I was at work! Glee!
I posted my FC on Nuklearpedia, but if you're lazy I'll do it here too: 1289-7923-6099. *bouncing with excitement* Neyo and Demonlink, my Wii told me your friends codes were incorrect. :( |
Rick I sent you a friend registration.

Also, it seems Nintendo servers went kaput. That's the reason matches have been laggy today and nobody has been able to play With Anyone. It seems the Big N underestimated how much people in the US love to play online. |
I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but the crowd cheering Snake is awesome.
|
I got to (finally) play two matches today (yes just two shut up :() They were 4 player FFA matches with only Smash Balls on at Medium. The first match I used good ol' Captain Falcon but I was kinda disappointed. Looks like I am gonna have to work reeeeeaaaalll hard to sweet spot knee consistently (it has to be possible... just gotta be...). I died first mainly because every single time I tried to jump to do a knee, a Zelda would be waiting right there to Magic Kick me (it's real awesome how there's that psuedo slowdown when you sweet spot BTW...). Then I tried playing as Pikachu and I was owning quite well.... until the guy who was playing as Sonic got the Smash Ball and proceeded to rape me :stressed: (that fucking thing can hit through shields; what the hell?!). But yeah I'm quite happy that Pikachu is still pretty damn powerful (although they did nerf the up smash :gonk:)
