Also, the Japan article sasy Mudah lives there, which is incorrect.

There's going to be a Game Stop tournament on release night. The employees are working to unlock all the characters before the game's out. I figure no matter what they'll have Zelda, so I'm good.
Let you know if I win my first tournament! |
I hear that there DOJO tells you how to unlock Marth, so I'm good.
Unfortunately, I think I'm going to a Con during March 9, so I can't get it anyways D: |

This guy shows how to recover with Olimar at 1:34, 2:00, and 3:14. This shows that tether recoveries are not completely shitty. |
Quote:
|
Yeah, I've found that recoveries are somewhat easier in this one than in Melee.
|
Hell, you can even have your back turned to the Ledge now. So mario and His Supercape screwing, is basically no more :(
And yes, you now grab onto the ledge from much further away now. all of the SSBB SSE boss battles Toon Links Dair used to recover? |
The characters you're fighting with on the Electroplankton stage are completely flat for some reason.

Awww, but I liked waiting safely on the edge to give one final "Fuck You" to all the annoying Fox and Falco players :(
|
ok, one of you guys who own brawl now, try to do this, just to see if it is real.
|
...damnit, I had a hard enough time dodging that bastard's [Master Hand] "drill finger" attack, nevermind now that it goes across the entire stage.

I'm sure it does. Last I checked it worked wherever the hitbox to the cape was. Yellow = bounce.

I know I shouldn't talk about rumours but, apparently, there's talk that Mewtwo and Roy are being added for the Western releases as unlockables and as DLC for Japan. The theory is also substantiated by the fact that there was data for them in the disk's first layer, along with other people such as Plusle & Minun, Dixie Kong, Dr. Mario, Pichu, Toon Zelda and Toon Sheik (Tetra?).
If this happens I'll be very, very happy. |

LA tournament Final
Seemingly the Tourney Rules I haven't really found anything else of interest, trick tips, or anything, besides the "moonwalking" but I think I heard about it here |

Seriously, |
Well to be fair, "Every item on very high" is a huge step up.
|
Why only the starting roster?
|
They don't want to spoil the game.
|

Is DLC even possible for this game? |
Wii Ware comes out next month in Japan, isn't that right? Now, the problem would be the space in the Wii Flash Drive. How much would a character take up?
|
They're already providing downloadable custom stages, but downloadable characters is a step up from that.
|
You cannot keep the downloadable custom stages. They get erased after 24 hours.

I didn't Mewtwo because he was underpowered compared to his Ultimate Pokemon status from the original games. But if they come out and say 'Hey, we forgot to mention, you can now download new characters and stages from the WFC. So now if you're missing any of your faves, like maybe Mewtwo, an extra pokemon or even Lucas's evil twin The Masked Man, don't worry, eventually they will all make their way into the roster.' After this I could die knowing at least one thing was right with the world. |
Captain "No Shit" Sherlock counterattacks: Dude, can you spoiler-tag those HUGE MOTHERFUCKING MOTHER 3 SPOILERS please? Seriously, pretty please?

...GOD DAMN IT ELDEZAR
ANYWAY dismissing that out of my head, I don't see how come they would bring back Mewtwo and Roy. They have spiritual successors whom are infinitely better, and besides, how would you store them in your Wii? ...though the prospect of trying out Roy and Mewtwo with the removed SHFFLing and Wavedashing is interesting, Roy would still suck just as much testicle as he used to, I'd think. |
Oh God. The MGS transmission actually being interrupted with the character appearing shouting "Snake! Snake!!! SNAKE!!!!!" if he's KO'ed during a fight is just priceless. Absolutely priceless. There is no other way to describe it.
|
|
God, Ganondorf is more of a clone than even Snake.
The one-hundred Kirbies fill me with warm thoughts. |
Huh. That video is simultaneously reassuring me, and worrying me.
Cap/Gan was one of the main complaints I had about clones, since the two could not be more unrelated. And though they've made him substantially different...it's still strange to see Ganondorf perform some sort of crazy side-kick that makes him look like a karate pro. |
Quote:
As far as I can tell the only thing Ganondorf has going for him is a bigger hitbox on forward A. |
I hope I'm not the only person that thought Optimus Prime Kirby (#55) was Darth Malak Kirby. Please, please tell me I'm not alone.
Oh, and Ganondorf appears to be dealing a lot more damage than his F-Zero counterpart. His A attack has some serious knockback... well, basically all of his attacks do. |
Is it me or Ganondorf's final smash ends up being a bit better? It seems to throw enemies just as far, but does more damage.
|
Shockingly enough, Ganondorf's final smash appears to be fundamentally different from Falcon's, which is basically Metaknight's final smash.
|
I'm pretty sure most of the FS end up as "Knockback from ____ side of the screen".
It's not that Ganondorf doesn't have anything going for him - he's the very essence of a clone. Make the individual hits count more, but are easier to evade or interrupt. I just don't like that Sword Battle, Trident-Throwing, and Levitation While Casting Spells became a martial arts master, and when given the chance to change it, ended up exactly the same. It's just weird is all. Unsettling. |

Ganon Boar attacks in a mostly horizontal path. The Blue Falcon, however, only functions if it hits something just by the side of the Captain.

This is, of course, unlike the Landmaster effect.
Just paid off my copy today at Gamestop. I traded in like 10 GBA games I'm not going to use like NES Classics, Super Mario Advance, and Zelda Four Swords. Now that I've got emulation on the go I don't need them much more. So, woo, free copy of Brawl, kinda! |
I'm hoping to have some wifi matches with you guys when the rest of you get the game.
|
Lord Setheris and I already have a rivalry going. I'm sure it's going to go up on Nuklearpedia as a big "Brawl Friend Codes Page", and for that matter, into many many sigs.
|
I think Nukepedia sounds good. www.nuklearpedia.com make your filthy page. :P
|
I'm lazy and I'm waiting for Brawl to come out first, or at least get close.
|
We need to have, like. a huge NPF Melee... er, Brawl. And a tournament. Like Thunderdome. Sentence fragments.
|
If we do have a NPF tournament, what should the rules be? It's already clear that some of us like to play differently. Some like items and others don't. Wich stages would be used? 1 vs 1 or 4 player free for all?
|
We could just hold multiple tournaments for the different play styles, and then people just enter what they feel like playing.
|
Quote:
ALL CHARACTERS ONLY NO FINAL DESTINATION Naw, I'll take on whatever terms except banning characters. Items and random stages appeal to me more, because I like playing against the game just as much as I like playing against other players, not to mention an unpredictable setting will likely hold my attention better. But I'm happy to beat anyone at their own game if they prefer. |
Certain items on, all characters and stages allowed (barring some obvious things, like Big Blue), and moderated matches to prevent against shenanigans.
|
No, separate tournaments sound about right. That is unless it's like a ratio of 5:1, in which case just one big one and tell the other people to suck it up.
We'll see. Game needs to come out first. |
To those whom it concerns, the Cape is still good for edgeguarding. It appears to completely reverse momentum in addition to attack direction.
|
I agree with the "all characters allowed" sentiment. I mean, sure, we do want to mitigate as much dumb, unfun occurances as possible, such as bomb-omb gank or Big Blue ridiculousness, but this is still for fun, no?
Oh, and I want to express my desire for a Doubles Tournament. I've always been more interested in the team aspects of any competitive game. |
Only if team attack is off--I'm a bigger threat to my own teammate than to any of my foes.

Icicle Mountain is gone, I believe. There's a Donkey Kong Country-esque level that is set up the same frigging way, though, vertical scrolling and all.
I think POS and I should form a team of five or so players each and have a huge melee/brawl. We would choose two players to represent the team for each match, and there would be a best-of-five format or somesuch. |
I think it's a little early to be calling teams/stages/rules for the impending tourney. Shouldn't we all wait until we've had a chance to actually play the game for a bit, and figure out what we actually like?
|
Well, sure, if you're into that stuff, actually experiencing the game before making decisions on tournament format, character selection, item availability, and whatnot. Me, I live dangerously. That is, I really, really, REALLY want to play this damn game, and making posts related to it is one of the few ways to tide me over. And watching the endless amount of match videos pouring into Youtube.
|
All I know is that we better have at least one team tournament of 2 Vs 2. It always saddened me that those weren't more popular in Melee.
|

Well that's true, but I'm going to be relentlessly playing to unlock all the characters anyway, and I'm sure everyone else is going to be doing SSE just as frantically for any number of reasons.
I mean I want a tournament too, but there is such a thing as a "Smash Bros Brawl Mirai Happy Time." |
True enough. I know that pretty much any character I'd want to be using will need to be unlocked, so I'll probably be barreling my way through SSE as soon as I get the thing.
If I at least have Luigi by the time we get something going, I'll be in, which is to say I'll be ready to go when everyone else is. |

And, since there was Ice Climbers news to get me posting, I'll throw my hat in on this tournament. I'm for having it in April, though, as I'll be away from my Wii the week Brawl comes out. I'll be at the beach, so I'm not complaining. But I think that gives us all enough time to play the game/get a copy/exchange friend codes/think up witty taunts. Mike's got his, so I'm already behind on that. |

Oh my god.
ZSamus scissoring Peach while Zelda acts as a guard while casting suspicious looks down the hallway... That is easily the best screencap ever. |
They... they really did think of everything.
|
I remember getting such a screenshot once in Melee. Captain Falcon and two Samus(es). Grapple beam from behind, and a compromising position between Samus#2's head and Falcon's Knee.
I can't go into more detail than that... maybe I can convince the girl who took the screenshot to send it to me. |
Nintendo has always hit me as the "goody, family-friendly" game makers. Behind that, there's ZSSamus, who goes against everything. Heck, most of the other female characters in Nintendo games are princesses or royalty of some kind... Usually the pure and innocent kind. Samus is the girl who gets dirty with it and likes showing herself.
Edit: I just remembered who she reminds me of. Rouge, from the Sonic universe. Look at Amy and Cream, then compare to Rouge. Do the same thing afterwards with Peach and Zelda, then compare to ZSSamus. |
I was thinking about the same exact subject this morning. ZSSamus really seems like a cop-out to me, as if Nintendo trying to be "hip", "sexy", and any other cliches you can think of. Samus was definitely one of my favorite Nintendo characters: she was cool, she kicked copious amounts of ass, and the fact that she was a woman just made her even cooler. Now we have a busty blonde Samus prancing through SSBB... Sell-out!
EDIT: If they HAD to put Zero Suit Samus in, she could have been, you know, normal. Not every teenage boy's fantasy in a ploy to sell a few more copies... As if they actually NEEDED to provide that kind of incentive to purchase this game. |
