Guillermo del Toro diricting The Hobbit?

Source

If you haven't heard, it seems that Guillermo del Toro is in talks to direct the two Hobbit movies (slated for release in 2010 and 2011).

Personally, this is the best news I've heard for the project in a long time.

I guess it kinda shatters Bookworm's dreams, though. For now.

Why didn't we clone del Toro when we had the chance?

Why didn't people listen?

What, he can't direct more than one movie at the same time? I mean he is about 75% awesome and 25% pirate (which is also awesome) so I think he could totally direct both

Wasn't Blade III his fault, though?

That's kind of a lot to answer for.

And Hellboy wasn't that hot either.

I'm just saying, the guy seems pretty 50-50 by my scorecard.

Not Blade III. That was all David Goyer. del Toro did Blade II.

And I liked Hellboy.

Fifthfiend 01-31-2008 07:44 PM

That wasn't Del Toro? Oh man okay, completely revising my assessment of him. And Hellboy is an area where I can agree to disagree so this raises my optimism level considerably.

Plus that this is set in Middle Earth leaves (hopefully) no room for the introduction of any insipid Media Angle plot device. As long as he can resist the temptation of too much Introducing the New Guy to the Organization suckitudinousness it should be smooth sailing.

Heh. Of course, the entire first chapter is basically the Organization introducing itself to the New Guy...

Yeah, and if there's one director I trust to make that kind of thing not suck, it's some entirely different director that is absolutely not Guillermo Del Toro.

del Toro did Pan's Labyrinth. He is made of awesome.

And I enjoyed Hell Boy...also he's doing Hell Boy 2 which looks bitchin'

Also Pan's Labyrinth.

He doesn't get as much respect as he should
