This is my own comic. Additional comic artwork can be found at my website, here

It appears that a lot of my comics are too big to post here. I am sorry, I will post in this thread when there are updates on my site.

This really should go into the Comics forum, and have the feeling a mod will move it soon.

Your comic irritates me and has earned loathing. The reason? Megaman Sprites. NEVER start a comic with megaman sprites unless it is really super-duper unbelievably amazingly good. Otherwise it will be worthless.

Icegaze 03-20-2004 02:43 PM

I think that the sprites do not matter as long as the jokes are good. But you have your right to your personal opinion. But, would you mind telling me why you don't like Megaman sprites?

Dr DR 03-20-2004 03:08 PM

Because at last tally there were a round about 15,000,000 megaman sprite comics. The vast majority of them poor. The sheer volume and low quality have ensured that they are widely hated across the net (its not just me). Also you say that only jokes matter? That isn't true. Art is part of the impression involved in reading a comic. Many people will go to your site, say "Not another megaman comic." and leave. To be frank when I visited your site I thought the plotline was serious. Though this is probably down to me not being a fan of your style of "humour", I'm sure there's someone out there who might get a chuckle from it.

Most people use Megaman sprites because they are versatile. There are many poses on each sheet. In 8-bit Theater, not to criticize Brian Clevinger, the FF1 sprites that were chosen have little movement. Artwork may be essential for first impressions, but I truly think that the quality of the jokes is the soul of the comic.

As for my style of humour, I try to be versatile and please everybody. I try to stay away from parodies because I don't like confusing people. I use Megaman sprites, but I don't use the Megaman plotline.

The comic is ok. You need a LOT of work in the talk bubble and "camera work" areas. By that I mean it looks like someone is standing 50 feet away from the action and taking pictures to make each frame. You should have close-ups and action shots and stuff to make it less amature.

Megaman sprites aren't a versatile as actual art.
I would never suggest you did a parody, that would be even worse, but really where's the joke in (just to take a random example):

I hate your comic. The first panel has unnecesary words in it. It's not funny. It has no potential. What budding sprite artists have to realize is that their comic swill never go anywhere. Compare your comic to 8-bit theater, or Penny Arcade, or any other hihg-calibur comic. Notice how it does not match up? You think it's a decent comic, but it's not. You have to put effort into it, whether it be through the art or through the dialog, or both. The reason 8bit is so successful is because it does not feel like a sprite comic, although it is and you are notably aware that there are, in fact, sprites on your monitor. The preview at the end of your comic assumes we are waiting for this 'epic' Icegaze saga. Ooh, coming soon! No thanks. I'll stick to the 2 good sprite comics out there.
