Why am I getting an ominous feeling?

Maybe it has to do with the fact that we, as heroes, tend to be only slightly more effective than the Light Warriors.

Slightly more effective? I think by now they'd have already killed a Giant (and razed his forest...)

To be fair, indiscriminate murder is not the same thing as being a hero.

Since killing people is simply bad sport, and wracking them with pain is arguably nearly as bad, this spell settles for simply draining their stamina on a grand scale. Nothing lethal here, unless it was amped up to eleven on some sickly fellow.

I knew I was holding back on having the patrol arrive for a reason.

Nothing good can come of this.

And yeah, I'll be slowly introducing and grouping up a few rivals in the background. Glad I've finally made a start on it.

Are we allowed to kill the soldiers...?

In the sense that they are flesh and blood people who do tend to die if killed, yes.

In the legal sense, no.
