Bioshock interest thread
this is an idea I had awhile ago, a RP set in the world of bioshock, so I thought I'd see what people think.
For those of you that dont know about bioshock, yet still managed to get internet access in that rock you live under, I'll explain the jist. You are in what was once an underwater utopia constructed at the turn of the century (last century) that has gone to hell. Genetically mutated humans skulk the streets looks for Adam, a wonderous genetic compound that has also turned the citizens into crack whores. The easiest way to get Adam is by finding creatures that look like little girls, killing their monsterous behemoth guardians, and then either making them into real girls or opting to just smash their heads open and getting the yummy adam inside. Ultimate goal, get the F@#% out. The one thing I will be changing is that saving the little girls will, even in the long run, get you less adam. Gameplay wise it will work like this. You have three stats, hacking, weapon, and plasmids. To streamline every thing adam is used to increase all of these, treat it like exp. You can get adam same way as in the game, by finding the girls. To generate internal conflict you need to decide amongst yourselves whether or not to kill the girls, and more importantly how to split up the adam. I wont force you to stay together or work together. Although I would prefer you dont seperate too much as this becomes pointless if I'm running a seperate story for each character. Ok thats the idea, any questions and is anyone interested? |
We need to compare notes. I have a finished one that I ran once that works great, and I think you might like to adapt some of it for your game.

I've seen this kind of thing attempted before. Let's just say it didn't work out too well, mostly because the guy running the rp gave everyone the option to choose to be a splicer, a little sister, a big daddy, or a normal (well, more normal) person.
I'm assuming we'd be playing the roles of people similar to the main character in the game, meaning we havn't given in to the crazyness of adam (yet) and that we could/could not be slaves. Overall though, depending on what the official sign-up options are, I'll join. Until then, consider me as "interested" Oh and also, Bioshock has a crappy story. Ken Levine is the guy who wrote the story of the game, and he's the one now saying it is stupid. I just thought I'd throw this up here :D. |
thing about bioshock was the ambience more then anything.
but yea, you will all be just some random guy (or girl) with very basic weapons and hacking skills. I might also give everyone a starting plasmid of their choice. Things will start out very simular to the game, but instead of one lone surviver, you are a small group. |

well thats just it, I'm hoping for decent. I want the characters to be faced with the same conflict that made Rapture what it is. I want you guys fighting over adam, seeing you decend into people willing to slaughter little girls to get it, while those not willing to try and save them. I'm hoping for a single group, but have it be volitile. Also, if you are a good RPer, then you would play out how your character would react about such a thing. I will also have people be descriptive about killing the girl and I dont care who your playing, first time you do I better see some reaction. Typical guy would puke at seeing an adults dead and mutilated body. Imagine how someone would react to actually doing it to a little girl.
I should point out the differance wont be like, a 10 to 1, 2 to 1 at worst. And adam needs to be divided up. two decentors will ultimately have more adam then the ten killing the girls. NPC reactions will probably also vary depending on if you opt to save or kill them |
If I may add onto that, in the game saving the girls gave you some help and rewards in the long run, such as a plasmid which tricked any big daddy into protecting you. While you may get less adam for killing the little sister, that girl might come back later and give you a helping hand. Or, like Aero somewhat said, you could just choose to have a character with stronger moral fiber than the rest, who simply isn't willing to butcher a girl. It's all about choices, and those choices can always be a double-edged sword.
Small note: most of what I said is in reference to the game, which even though I havn't played much I still know plenty about it because I've watched a sibling play most of it. Back to what I was saying, I'm just throwing out some ideas for the RP, unless Aero has already came up with those ideas in which case I'm coincidentally putting them out there. |
