Devil May Cry 4 Yet Again
Seriously, does anyone know how the fuck I can possibly beat His Holiness in level 20? I swear I don't even have the opportunity to hit him, each time I try and Devil Bringer myself within range he darts away. I can't shoot the orbs because they always move behind him meaning I hit him and then he gets his sphere of prot back blah blah blah.
On an unrelated note, Lucifer is awesome. I also really miss the "Equipment" screen from DMC3, because it meant I only had two weapons to switch between. Sigh, reminiscence. |
Easiest way is to make sure you use the devil bringer on the orbs too to get closer to him. Once his sphere is down just run/grab to get close to him and if he winds up to shoot fireballs at you remember he's a sitting duck. As he gets lower in health though his tactics change up a bit.
Here's a video of it on DMD mode. Yet another DMD video on it. This first one's sound is a bit louder than normal and the video quality isn't too good but you can see how he dodges the fireball blasts pretty well. The second video switches things up a bit but it is relatively the same. I'm almost at this boss on Son of Sparda mode myself, gee I can't wait... |
I figured out what I was doing wrong - I kept on trying to use Buster against him at point-blank midair, which is kind of dumb because it's the slowest attack in the game (And I figured that was all I could use against him).
Awesome game, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to re-fight His Holiness (I can never remember his name) to get the secret ending. Youtube it is. EDIT: God, the ending was just as over-the-top and ridiculous as the rest of the game, except you add in all the Bond-style "I'm surrounded by beautiful women I never give the light of day" and Dante's Angels pose. I really hope they give some light to Lady and Trish's contributions to the Devil May Cry (which got re-named from Devil Never Cry, apparently). Apparently Trish has electricity powers we never see cept Devil May Cry, Lady has a Dante-style "My Sheer Badassery Kills You" sort of thing, but they're always backstage. It's kind of disappointing, though the prospects of Devil May Cry 5's story with all these secondary characters is exciting. |
So i just finished the game on Son of Sparda mode. All i can say is this.
Not as awesome as 3. That is all. |
Just finished as well. God I hated that Saviour "fight", that was torture! Pandora has me disapointed as well, why does it have to be so slow??
And Lucifer is... interesting, but I'm still not sure how to actually use it properly. Although I can see it being probably the most powerful weapon in the game, bar Pandora. I certainly noticed an increased amount of death whenever I used it. And yeah, I echo MBs' statement above; not as epic as DMC3. Still awesome, but definately lacking some of the X-Factor. |
Dante's Awakening is still my favorite. The Equipment screen, the unique aspect of the Style gameplay, the epic story, and Lady as the most interesting and cutest secondary character was awesome.
Devil May Cry 4 was alot of fun and it was totally worth the purchase but honestly the on-the-fly weapon switching lacked the fluidity that it used to. I could still go back and find fun aerial and ground combos with just about any weapon, but in 4 I have an impossible time meshing Gilgamesh or Lucifer into Rebellion. Gunslinger's addition of the rapid fire, level 4 tech of mashing B was awesome. |

To break it down in the fastest way possible, DMC3 had the best combat mechanics of all the games. DMC1 had the best enemy design -- bosses arguable on this point -- and the most diverse cast of enemies. That, and DMC1 played more slowly, even with DMC3's Turbo option left off. Combat was always more deliberately paced and strategic, owing to just how dangerous DMC1's foes were compared to DMC3's, most of whom were just punching bags. DMC4 finds what I feel to be a great balance between the two games. Wide range of enemies, several attacks per enemy, and strategic combat that usually feels just as deep as it did in DMC3. DMC3 & DMC4 SPOILERS! A good example is the boss Angelo Creedo. Note that he's a very knightly boss, with horns, a lot like Nelo Angelo from DMC1. He teleports and throws spears, a lot like the way Nelo would teleport and hit you with that Meteor-like fireball attack. Also, he occasionally needs to stop and take a breath, just like Nelo. He uses summoned spears almost exactly the same way Nelo used the Summoned Swords in the final DMC1 showdown. But then note that you fight him atop a tower, a lot like the first Vergil showdown in DMC3. The way the fight ends, with Creedo falling, parallels directly Vergil's fall at the end of DMC3. There's also the slicked-back hair to consider, and the fact that Vergil and Creedo share a voice actor. This is the sort of thing I meant when I said I could feel the development team striving for a balance of DMC1 and DMC3 elements. END SPOILERS! In terms of the story, I felt 3's was the strongest of all the games. Nero's story seemed lacking in comparison... Fighting to save some damsel in distress who appears in the game all of maybe ten minutes? And whose personality is completely stock-character "innocent princess," white gown of purity and all? DMC3 SPOILERS COMING UP! By comparison, Dante in DMC3 wages war against his brother Vergil to save humanity from the power of Sparda. Meanwhile there's a somewhat Lovecraft-ian evil sorcerer dude who is manipulating everyone like pawns -- including his daughter, who provides an interesting literary foil Dante. END DMC3 SPOILERS. ...Yeah, in the story department 3 kicks the ass of just about any other DMC game. Except for DMC1. And, IMO, DMC1's story would'nt have half the impact it does without the retroactive groundwork laid by DMC3. Just saying. |
I can't help thinking that wonderfully stylish and fun to play the DMC series has been, they need to just stretch that little bit more in the things that you are rewarded with. I mean, only 6 artworks for DMC4? Please, it's Blu-Ray, you should be able to fit more things on there. Additionally, troop type variants seem pretty thin on the ground.
DMC 3 really has been the best so far. Ooo I should see if I can do that body surf move in DMC 4... heh, really crazy idea: DMC Multiplayer Deathmatch :D |

Thats one thign I hated about 3, the enemies were basically just fancy punching bags, and they werent nearly as intimidating as the enemies in 1. I was happy to see the Frosts and Furys back though, they were badasses.
