Franchises that should go back to their roots

Franchise will evolve, it is neccesary, but what about when theyb lose their way. Talk about games that need to get back to what made them great.

Im gonna start with what I think is the biggest, Final Fantasy. When it started, it was an adventure set in a high fantasy world, with dwarves and elves. It was not a battle against some evil corporation, or about schools of witch hunters, it was about a group of heroes, searching for the crystals. Characters were not wielding gian swords, nor did thay have impossibly perfect hair, and they were certainly not pretty boys. No, they were knights and wizards and bandits. FF need to be fantasy again. Its called Final Fantasy, not Final Anime Scifi.

We got that with Final Fantasy XII (sans dwarves and elves) and the vast majority of the community hated it.

Quite frankly, I think the fans just don't know what they want with Final Fantasy.

I liked 12, cause it was a fantasy. I have no interest in 13 whatsoever. Gives mke too much of a 7/8/10 vibe.

9 was the start of such trend. I suppose the next FF with a fantasy medieval setting will also be hated for no actual GOOD reason.

Talking about the topic in particular, one franchise that I want to go kind of back to its roots is Zelda, by which I mean that it should go to an open world with almost no people yet plenty of difficult monsters, no linearity, and in which you had to find the dungeons by yourself. Similar to Shadow of the Colossus, if at least for just one game.

I'd like them go back to the roots of Zelda II. I mean come on, who didn't love side-scrolling Link and his stubby little half-sword!

Sonic the Hedgehog.

dear gods, Sonic the Hedgehog.

The Mario series. Take him out of these parties and sports and give him his glorious platforms back.

NSMB was a step in the right direction, but it simply had absolutely no difficulty whatsoever. I want to value my lives and breathe a sigh of relief when my coin count hits 100.

(The RPG games are a different story. Those are fine)

Me, for one. I couldn't stand that game, if only because I didn't know how to play. If it doesn't have a tutorial in the beginning, and it's unlike anything else you've ever played, HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO PLAY IT?!?!?! Plus, I got killed by bats. That's just too humiliating for me.
