What Is The Best Console Ever?

I vote for the SNES.

Sure it's now outdated, but god damn did it have some great titles:

Final Fantasy 2 through 6
Earthbound
Terranigma
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario
A Link To The Past
Donkey Kong
Breath of Fire
Spawn
Street Fighter

Among others. The controllers, though simple and not as comfortable as the newer systems out there were easy to hold and use, and implemented the six button interface. The cartridges did occasionally get dusty, but all it took was a few short breaths... or a few long breaths depending on when last you played the game, and you were in.

Apart from very hard hitting titles that are still incredibly fun to play through multiple times, the system was easy to use and allowed kids everywhere to step into the world of gaming.

I kinda want to say the Megadrive, but I also really want to say the PS1, so I'm in a bit of a conundrum. MD had some great games (Desert Strike, MK) and I always preffered Sega over Nintendo anyway, but then, you can't deny what the original PS did for the entire gaming industry, especially with games like wipeout, mgs, tomb raider (before it went crap) and far too many others to mention.

You know what, fuck it! I think I just talked myself into voting for the ps1 anyway.

Though the PS1 did have some great games - the first few games of the Legacy of Kain series, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid as prime examples - I think that the SNES established more of a name for itself in terms of gaming.

The PS had visuals going for it, and was one of the first mainstream consoles that took discs instead of cartridges, (I think) the PS2 was what really established the Sony Playstation in my mind. It might just be that there are more games that I like for the PS2 than the PS, or that the PS2 has standard analog sticks/rumble features, or just something irrelevant and shallow, but I don't consider the PS1 to be as grand as its bigger brothers.

Oh man Seil you do ask the hard questions. I love all of mine so frankly the one console that's got the real warm spot in my pants has to be gameboy. Why? It was my first :) Mario Land was a work of art. It introduced me to Final Fantasy via the Mystic Quest series. It was region free. Many, many years later I still enjoy tracking down the old classics from it and playing it on my PC. Not to mention one uni project that was inspired by the old greyscreen small sprite based gaming :)

The N-Gage.

But seriuosly, I'd have to say it's a close call, but the Playstation (original) wins out over the Super Nintendo for me. Even though There were a lot of great games on the SNES, I can't remember most of them. But I can remember almost every game I rented on the Playstation (or rather, that my parents rented for me) which makes it tons easier to build up a collection of nostalgia.

Plus, my Playstation has cigarette ashes permanently staining the inside of it, for reasons that we won't mention here.

Sooo where does Symphony of the Night fit in here?

DS. I mean it. It has the entire GBA library (which was pretty much composed of the SNES one) plus four iterations of Ace Attorney plus Professor Layton plus Elite Beat Agents plus Final Fantasy III. The SNES had Kirby Super Star, yeah, but the DS will get Kirby Super Star Ultra Deluxe. That about says everything for it.

Also, what the fuck is up with all these threads?

I have to throw in my vote for the SNES. That system has the most amount of favorite games on it.

I really don't have much more to say than that, although I'm rather fond of my Gamecube too.

Dreamcast, for the short lifespan it had, held some of my favoritist games evah.

Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Tech Romancer, Phantasy Star Online...

SNES.

It could only have Mario Kart, Earthbound, Mario RPG, Lufia II, Chrono Trigger, and Super Metroid and it would still be the best console ever.
