Clara checked a clock, then shrugged, "I guess I'll go with you to get a drink. I couldn't sleep now anyway, with everything that has been going on." She picked up her purse and walked a few steps towards the door, but waited for David to go first, since he was the policeman, and she didn't want to be questioned about why she was back in the files, since she didn't work there.
|
"Great. Jim, then is it. I'll see you tommorow bright and early."
Walking to his car Gabriel stopped and thought of something. He wouldn't have access to a dark room to develop his film. Walking back to the house he started to draw a few rough sketches of the front symbol on his note pad. He made several, and made little notes about what he thought was important or not. Before going to the farmhouse in the morning he would see if there was anything in the Arkham Library that might help decifer the writings. He would then see if they had a dark room. Then he would check out the farmhouse again. Locking the door, he walked back to his car. OOC: Ammended the post. |
OOC: Nope, sorry, this was the good ole' days of developing your own film!
OOC: But you all make it back safely, the monster seems to have fled. OOC: Day 2 begins when you all can think up a plausable reason, in the Discussion thread, about how you all contact each other again... |
ooc: Back then you developed your own film. Or sent it off and waited a few weeks. I can walk you through film development
|
After gettting kicked out of the library Alan decides to return to his hotel room. As he opens the door to his room he wonders how everyone else is doing. Maybe I should have gone with them he thinks. "It's to late to do anything about it now" he says out loud to himself. He walks over and lies down in is modest bed quickly falling asleep.
OOC: By the way where are we all meeting tomorrow. Is it back at the library or at the house? Probably should have thought to ask this before we all split up. |
Mike had accidentally fallen asleep while he was at the hotel. He knew it was too late to go to the 'possessed' house, so he thought he could do something to meet the others again and see what had happened.
|
Eventually, despite their adventures, or misadventures, all the investigators made it safely back to their hotel rooms for the night. After a good nights sleep, Alan tracked down the others in the building, and told them about his plans with Frankie. After everyone woke up and got their things together, they made their way to the Miskatonic University Library once again. There they met up with Frankie, and everyone settled in, both to discuss what they learned last night, and to discuss what to do next.
Friday, 9:00 AM |
"I found a mention in an old church record of a phenomenon like what our friend described." William said. He knew his search had dead ended.
|
OOC: Jeez, already?!
Jim looked around at the group. "I suggest we go back to the house. Something wrecked my car last night, and it was rather dark when we had first gone there, so we couldn't see everything so clearly." |
"I think its about time the rest of us took a look at that house." Alan stated matter of factly. "We've done about all we can as far a research for a while. I for one am interested in this thing you say attacked you."
|
Frankie nodded toward Jim. "That sounds like a plan... but first I think Alan and I should tell you what we found out about that gold box." He glanced over at Alan, "Tell me if I mispronounce anything," and then back toward the rest. "The outside reads something along the lines of 'Seeker of wisdom, servant of Yu... something Setheth, Deliverer of the people of the water, Bearer of the spirits of Nar-Loth-Hotep, child of... Tooth? ... Seeker of Wisdom.' Upon looking for more information we found out the inside language has to do with someplace called 'Mu' and that the box was said to contain a piece of amber with spirits in it that some ruler or another could call upon to aide them." He nodded and looked at Neil, "Hey, you're the one who knew this was from the middle kingdom, any idea on any of that?"
|
"This 'thing' was rather....intresting. It's hard to explain. Something came by and scratched up my car and then suddenly went off. There was some galloping too, and when we entered the house, there was a screech, and we didn't hear of it again, since we left soon after."
|
"Whatever it is, I know I'll be shooting that thing in the head," Mike pointed out as he walked up with his rifle.
|
"If our friend wasn't hallucinating, I'd like to be sure how to kill the creature, before we go and try and see it."
|
OOC: "Neil" isn't hear, sooo...
Neil nods agreement at what Frankie said. He shrugs, indicating he doesn't know any more about the Middle Kingdom. He sit quietly. |
"I have some of the symbols photographed -just need to get them developed- and one of them I drew a couple of sketches of. Personally, I think that there is probably more in the farmhouse than we actually 'found.' But we don't entirely know what we're dealing with. I'm planning on checking with records on some of the good Doctor's old estates. I'm convined that there must be something in his study that might prove useful. And this Marion fellow who was brutally murdered, might have something in his house, too.
Those are two leads I'm considering persuing." He said, arms crossed, fingers drumming against his them. |
Frankie looked back over at Alan, "Hey, why don't you give him back the box. Let him look around the university for some more information on it, while the rest of us go check out that house... seeming as everybody else is all raring to go."
(OOC: That way the rest of us get to go to the house without him, but 'Neil' is still doing something in the meanwhile. And he might have a better chance with the professor, being as that they seem to have common grounds.) |
"We ought to go to the house quickly. I have a car. Who'll be coming with me?"
|
OOC: I am tempted to post one thing, but in the name of retaining some seriousness...
Neil takes the box and says, "Sure thing. I'll look around for more info while you all do what you need to." He then takes the box and walks off. |
Something tweaked in Gabriel's memory. "A peice of Amber ... wasn't there a piece of Amber in 'Murdered Marion's' possession?"
|
"If it matters, the police report said in the journal really happened, and the old man was the last one of the group to die." David mentioned his findings to the group like everyone else was.
"And I can drive some people as well." |
Frankie glanced over at Gabriel and nodded. "Yah, there was something about that in the journal. Apparently it's what the monster came out of, remember? Basically everything seems to fit with the story so far..." His hand slid into his coat and fingered his .22 short automatic pistol for comfort. Things were starting to get eerie.
He then turned his attention toward Jim. "I'm coming." |
"Well, the amber is suppose to go into the box, right? If that's the case, and it was important, perhaps he was murdered for it ... What did the report say about his murder anyways?"
|
"How many cars are there?" Alan asked. "I mean there is quite a few of us and we might need to get a cab or two." Alan looked around expecting that most had not bothered to bring transportation.
|
"I have 2 seats left. Anyone else?"
|
"I'm going," Mike replied, climbing into the car.
|
Henry hesitated, then raised his hand. "Can I come? I don't have any other way to get anywhere here anyway."
|
"Wait, Jim! The monster ... did you actually see it?" Gabriel's heart was beating slightly. He was starting to wonder how stupid he could have been to go to that house alone ...
|
David opened up his notebook and read what he wrote down.
"A Mr. Marion Allen was murdered today (This was 30 years ago, not literally today) at the docks. According to police, it was a robbery gone wrong. Mr. Allen's last known contact was with the police that same day. He calimed that some strange men were after him, and wanted a box and a piece of amber he didn't have anymore. The police thought he was mildly mad, and tunred him out. They are now looking very closely into the case to see what may have happened, and who these "Mysterious" figures were tailing Mr. Allen. |
"Well in case it I haven't been clear so far I am going." Alan stated. "I think I might be able to turn up a few things. I'm usually pretty observant."
OOC: I'm working on how I might find my saber, but it wont happen for awhile right now I'm unarmed. |
"Kind of....but there was something. I'm not sure what it was, but I think there might be the chance that the old man wasn't lying........"
OOC: WhoOooOoooO!! *ghost sounds* |
Gabriel snatched the journal from his inside jacket pocket and read 'Entry March 1882' to everyone in the room. Specifically Jim.
" ... The thing formed in the center of the pentagram, shapeless, nearly invisible. It's terrible voice should have given us a clue but we were foolish. It spoke, then Marion cast that damned powder on the spirit, the Dust of Mon-Ghagi he calls it, and that's when we could see it." He finished and put the journal back in his pocket. "If the amber created the monster ... demon, whatever ... it may be possible to bind it with it aswell. And if we need the Dust of Mon-Ghagi just to see it, I don't think any of us should be going back to the house ..." How did he survive last night? |
"Well, from what I can tell, I don't think that the monster can go inside, for some reason. When we went in to the house, it screeched and stopped pursuit. The only danger which we can get is if we're outside, which I imagine we will have to go, since the monster can only be outside, I'm guessing."
|
"I for one think you are all a little crazy." Alan said. "It was dark out it could have been anything. Besides I'm pretty sure that what ever it was wont be about in the day."
|
"Maybe I am a little crazy, but I still say we go to the old house anyway. Is everyone ready?"
|
Frankie nodded. "I'm always ready for a good mystery." He cast a grin over at Alan, hinting at their conversation last night.
|
"The journal says that it can get into the attic. So don't go up there. Be careful, all of you!"
The last entry also said that the spells that bound the creature would break when the last of the ... summoners died. The last summoner was Doctor Merriweather. Gabriel decided to check records for his last known estate. He would then see if he could get inside. Legally, of course. The detective might be of help there ... |
Henry crossed his arms, a little annoyed that he hadn't been addressed. "...I'm assuming that everyone includes me. If so, I am."
|
"Everybody likes a mystery, but not many people like to live one." Alan almost laughed. "Any way I'm ready to go."
|
"Don't worry about it," Jim nodded Henry. "Just get in." Jim then got into the car and drove off to the abandoned house........
|
OOC: Excuse my double post, but uh, I'm gonna say Jim got there, and now he's just parked. Anything happen, FZ?
|
OOC: You need for the time lapse, and for the others if they leave. Conversation is slowing though, and most want to go to the house. I will post in a sec that everyone, excluding Demon, goes to the house.
|
(ooc: Excluding Demon and Neil [SS], you mean... Neil is working on the box.)
|
OOC: There was a suggestion that Demon was trying to drag IHMN with him. However, it all seems sorted out. One last post, then I'm done for the night. A little suspense never killed anyone...
OOC: Wait a sec... Demon has the key... Go anyway? |
OOC: He didn't lock the door.
|
(OOC: He left the house unlocked... key shouldn't matter... and why isn't this stuff getting in the discussion thread?)
|
OOC: Dunno, cause it's late and I'm getting lazy. He locked it back, but I'm sure an enterprising band of Investigators can find their way in...
12:00 PM, Friday After coordinating what to do, almost everyone, except Gabriel and Neil, head to the house to investigate. It once again seems to be an old fashioned salt-box design, with a high peaked roof, and windows sealed by shutters. As you approach the house, you can clearly see the markings around the edges of the doors and windows, the "Wards" from the journel. As you approach the front door, you find it locked... |
ooc: and Father William
|
OOC: Whoa, I thought he left it unlocked.....Creepy-ish.
IC: Jim kicked at the door several times in an attempt to break it open. |
Frankie glances at the door, then looks at everyone else. "So... anyone think to bring the key, or are we going to have to break a window, and/or door?" He glanced back at Jim. "Or we could just let him kick it..."
|
OOC: Uuuuse the Baaaack Doooor J Maaaaan... Thiiiiiis is your spirit adviseeeeeer...
|
Quote:
IC: Suddenly, Jim remembered there was a back door. Picking up his rifle, he walked to the back, motioning for people to come with him. OOC: Is it just me or does this suddenly seem like a trap for us? |
ooc. Sorry I am late folks. Lets just say that there was manners of epic preportoins that I do not wish to go into nor have nearly half the time.
Doctor Marcus had been there the whole time silently in the back of the group. He couldn't believe any of it. Not a single thing. All of it was like a flash to him. His oldest and dearest friend. The whole thing was ineffable When he saw the man pull out his gun he pulled out his own. |
[OOC]
Damn you guys are fuggin fast. Calm down a bit okay? Tor followed Jim to the back door with his gun ready if that "thing" returned. He knew that it probably wouldn't do much, but just for safety |
Mike was walking behind the group, ready to shoot anything that would come behind them.
|
Joseph also followed. He didn't see the point in drawing his rifle though. Why bother when there was clearly nothing in the house? He still didn't quite know why he was persisting with this charade though...
|
OOC: Dr DR, Joseph was at the house last night when the monster attacked Tor and J Man. He would have heard the snarls and the sound if it attacking at least.
You go to the back door to find it slightly ajar, and walk in. The back room looks different then those that saw it last night can attest to. Now there is a think wool balnket by the fireplace, still full of fresh embers. There are some scattered cans of food, and various nicknacks lying around around the blanket. You estimate that it was most likely a hobo seeking shelter for the night. You look around, and notice some things you didn't before. First is the fact that there is a door to the attic on the ceiling, and around the edges of the door are more of the warding runes like on the outside of the house. It is too high to reach without some sort of help. As you look around some more, someone (Preferably with a high Spot Hidden skill, but I'll take anyone) points at something on a high shelf near the fireplace. Hanging off the edge seems to be a yellowed piece of paper, and you see a box next to it. |
OOC: Nevertheless, he's a stubborn bugger. He doesn't believe in anything supernatural and he's going to cling to this believe for as long as is humanly possible. Even if he ends up in a fight with a supernatural creature he'll only try to kill it because it doesn't make sense that it should be there in the first place. I thought that since he's a Zealot he should really have some form of extreme believe and this is it (just to deviate from the normal Christian one).
IC: Joseph takes the paper and the box down from their place on the shelf. He quickly scans the sheet, giving the box to the others to hold. |
Frankie takes the box and opens it to look inside...
(OOC: Wonder if this will be my first failed sanity check) |
Henry neered Frankie, attempting to look over the man's shoulder. "What it's in there?"
|
Jim glanced up at the door leading to the attic, remebering what Gabriel had said.
"Don't go up there! " Jim sighed, knowing that he would have to, later. Then he went to Joseph and looked over his shoulder to read the letter. |
OOC: Ugh, damn this forum wierdness... I made up this post earlier, but the forum ate it, and I got pissed off and figured I'd do it when the furm got better. Well, the forum is still crap, but I'll try and get it up again...
Frankie: The box is old, and while the yellowed label seems to suggest this was a product once, the paper has turned unreadable. You pop open the lid, and find two containers. The first is a metal container, and opening it reveals a coarse brown powder. You skill in chemistry is lacking, so you pass and check out the second container in this box. Inside the wooden container with a sliding lid, your find a small amound of a silvery talc like powder. When you attempt to feel it's consistency, it sticks to your fingers, giving them a greasy feel. Jospeh: The one paper turns out to have been a pile of papers. The first six papers seem to be written in Latin, although comprehension of the meaning of the words is beyond you. The writing isn't in the small, neat handwriting of Merriweather, it is a flourished writing style, and from a notation on the pages, you see that it is the writing of Marion Allen. The next three sheets identify the Latin papers to be copied from De Vermiis Mysteriis, written by a Ludwig Prinn in the 1540's. These notes contain information on the book, and says the Latin words in the six pages are a chant needed to "Release the spirit trapped in the amber." The next, and tenth sheet, tells in detail how to set up the ceremony, saying how to draw the pentagram, what materials to use, and how it is done. The last three discuss the ritual itself. As you read the last three pages, you see the answer. To dispel the beast, the chant needed to summon it needs to be reversed, however everything else must be done the same. After a two-hour ceremony, starting at midnight, the unwanted spirit will be banished. In the margins of the last page is written the following. "Although the ceremony can be done by only one person, Prinn suggests the use of several chanters, allowing the chanting to be continuous and allowing some to take breaks while the others chant. The chant must be continuous for two hours without any interruption, not even the slightest mistake, or the ceremony will fail and the beast will remain free, and you must wait till the next midnight to perform the spell again. However, as long as the ceremony goes on for the two hours uninterupted, the beast will succumb to the spell. Also, Prinn suggests that a watcher be posted, 'Lest the sorcerers be disturbed by malevolent spirits." |
Jim read the pages quickly as Joseph shuffled through them. His eyes grew wide. "Joseph, show the papers to everybody. Let them read it." Jim then looked up at the attic........
|
Alan had followed the rest of the group into the house through the back door and now stood behind Frankie. "Let me see those powders Frankie. I have some chemical Knowledge I may be able to identify them." stated Alan.
|
Frankie nodded at Alan and passed the box, the powders still within it, to the man. "Sure thing. I was just about to ask if anyone had any idea what these things are."
|
Mike remembered that the group who had come here last night had seen a box in the basement. "Didn't you see a box in the basement last night? Maybe there could be something in there," he pointed out.
|
Okay, think man. Think! Jotting down notes in his book, Gabriel was doing his best to come up with a decent strategy. Everyone else was at the farmhouse, probably in danger ... but they had numbers to their advantage and weapons ... but the creature is invisible ... unless a special powder is thrown on it ... which may or may not be left in the house ...
If his understanding of the very, very basics of monster summoning ... actually he didn't even have that. Mostly what his imagination allowed him to believe was logical conclusions about 'monster summoning.' Like, if you used a chunk of wood to summon a tree monster, wouldn't you need to use the same piece of wood to de-summon it? Yeah, you're getting caried away, Gabe Ol Boy ... Rubbing his chin for quite sometime, he decided he would still try and find Dr. Merriweather's study. Which would, logically, be at his current residence. Logically, that would be the property of the widow Merriweather. Perhaps he could talk her into letting him search the good doctor's study. Perhaps even help him find his 'secret' library, if he had one. He had met her once or twice when he stayed over for dinner. She probably liked him. And it was, after all, the doctor's dying wish that his unfinished business be taken care of. Walking up to the Librarian, he asked if there was a phone he could use. The operator would be able to get him the Widow Merriweather ... |
William looks through the Miskatonic library for the De vermis mysteriis (sp?) He was at the card catalog.
