Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
Its good fun, for the psp. Okay, ADMITTEDLY, I bought it mostly for Symphony of the Night, but...I mean, SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT! It is quite obviously the best castlevania ever, and now it is portable. Rondo of Blood can go to hell, SotN is where its at.

Am I a criminal for not liking this as much as I should have done? I know I'm supposed to be amazed at RoB but I was just thinking "Man, the series has ome pretty far since this." SoTN is good but it's kind of rough around the edges compared to the later games.

Yes. Yes, you are. Compared to Legacy of Darkness (Epic), Dawn of Sorrow (Epic), Aria of Sorrow (Epic), and Rondo of Blood (Great) combined, Symphony of the Night is still miles ahead. It is so very, very great. I love it only slightly less than the girl I want to marry. [/hyperbole]
Alucard wins so hard. |
You know I heard all this stuff about SotN, but I think I got it too late, frankly it doesn't hold up well compared to it's successors like Dos and PoR. It's just way too fucking easy among other things. I'm thinking someone's got the nostalgia and bad TDK. Also SotN Alucard is just another white haired bishie redesigned to ride Sephiroth's coat tails.
Really out of the pack I preferred the remake of Rondo, that had some challenge to it, had great music(as well all Castlevanias really) and was smexy. I'd recommend it for any PSP owner, but for Rondo more than SotN. Cause it's great. |
SotN is Castlevania's equivalent of FF7. It's extremely overrated and is supported by a small but crazily vocal fanbase of people screaming how awesome they are. I'm sorry, but this is what I've noticed. Oh sure, I liked SotN, but I liked AoS, DoS and PoR much, much more.

Hey Looky now SoTN is no longer the game with the worst voice overs thanks to this upgrade. Can hand that title over to Resident Evil.

Rondo was actually totally worth it. I've been looking for Rondo of Blood for a while, because it was that big missing chunk of my Castlevania wonderful dedication.
I've seriously played almost every one. Just the important ones, the canon ones. Rondo of Blood stuck out, since it came right before SotN and I hadn't had a clue whom Richter or Maria or Shaft were. Plus, the SOTN port has new dialog (Though I do miss lipsynching the entire opening cutscene, complete with perfectly-timed 'Flinging The Wine Glass,' "WHAT IS A MAN?"), and a bonus fight with Maria. |

Look into the "fe"-nomenon known as GLAY.
That, and L'Arc' En Ciel. Anyway, I'm trying to find the last game on there... There was the main game, Akumajyo (stupid), and SotN. I thought there was four? |
