Zerg rush! (For realz)
They're heeeere...
So, yeah, the Zerg are out. I love how the new infestation mechanic works, and now we've got a unit that infests other units! I've always wanted that to happen in SC1 and BW, but I suppose it wasn't an option at the time. Ultra burrow...interesting... |
Hmmm, I guess this needs more of a kick in the pants.
First the stuff of officialness! Hydralisks and Mutalisks! I have to say, I love the updated Hydralisk. It looks meaner than ever. If you poke around in the screenshots, you should be able to spot a few other Zerg like the new Ultralisk. I'm still not quite decided what I think of its new look. Now stuff of less officialness. I'll have to see if I can track down the movies again. Corrupters - seems to basically be a new Devourer. Instead of acid spores, they apparently convert enemy units into an immobile unit, that makes other enemies force attack them. The infested air units may also act as a sort of turret. Here you can see Lurkers, Roaches and Infesters. I don't really think I like the current Lurker model. Kind of hard to tell from the Roach and its not anywhere near as spidery as the Brood War one. The Roach apparently has the defining trait of being pretty tough. Supposedly its to help absorb damage for less survivable units (like Zergling). The Infester is the weird flesh blob thing. You can see one spraying brown acid. Can move while burrowed and infest buildings, causing them to spawn infested units - they just keep popping out and they don't explode. Not sure how it works with Protoss stuff. Infested buildings and Terrans. Apparently you can have more than one Nydus Worm active at a time. Two interesting things here. First, if you look at the top left, you'll spot an overlord appears to be dumping Creep. Secondly, spot the Queen! (It's near the Hatchery). You can see it on the right here as well. She's evidentally been working out. I've seen a video of it killing a Marine with each hit. Abilities apparently include the ability to make Zerg buildings attack people and poisoning Creep. It's supposedly now more of a base defense unit. |
Yay Tyrranids are back!!!
|
What are those elite marines in the lurker screeny? They look useful.
|
The dudes with shields? That's an upgrade for the stock marine, boosts hp iirc.

Any attempt to follow what is going on in the development of SC2 is a vain attempt.
Since they released the Zerg info there have been at least 3 different builds of the game. One of them there are NO MEDICS FOR THE TERRANS. I am also sad that the Dropships didn't make the cut. |
How do you know about those builds?
One big change I noticed is that the Protoss Colossi in the Zerg vid fire multiple beams for a short period of time, rather than one beam which stays on for a long time like when they were introduced. I don't care for Kerrigan's new voice. |
I read the SC2 Forum on Battle.net.
Simple as that. Here is a fun fact, the Queen is in fact a Hero-ish unit ala WC3. |
Actually, it seems its a bit more complicated than that.
I think you get one per hatchery. If you have more advanced buildings, you can upgrade it. If it dies, you can just spawn a new one. What I find a little more bizarre is apparently they've gotten rid of the Zerg defensive structures. However, the Queen can place some sort of defensive turret ('Sunken cluster'), make some kind of creep colony, lay eggs that hatch when the base is attacked, poison creep, tunnel back to Zerg buildings and make Zerg buildings hate you. Apparently it also has something to repair damaged buildings. I'm guessing not all of these abilities have been implemented at once. The Roach apparently is now the second Zerg unit you can produce after the Zergling. Hydralisk has been moved to second tier and made a bit more expensive and meaner. Infestor has some of the Defiler's old abilities (everything except Consume) and apparently Guardians now come in Spawn Broodlings flavour. Oh, and apparently Blizzard's been experimenting with combining the dropship and the medic. Strangeness. |
In relation to the other thread, this will be one of the totally awesome games that I just have to go out and buy no matter what they do. And I really don't buy games all that often.
