Digimon: Digital Odyssey - RP-Signup

Pre-RP Story
It was a very insistent alert. That probably should have been a warning.

Of course, an email alert had never meant much before, just that there was a new email. Some, probably meaningless, new data to read and then delete, that was all.

And even if it didn't delete, absolutely refused to be removed, clicking on the link labeled "Help Please" should only have loaded up a new page.

It shouldn't have made everything, even
thought, feel so binary.

And after that experience was over, there was no way to explain the new location. Or the other people just waking up. Or the, admittedly cute, little creatures that appeared.

The ones that knew your name.

The ones that began to glow when they nudged against you.

I got into a big Digimon remembrance kick a little while ago, and I've always wanted to run an RP that was based on something Mon-ish (character and main helper-fighter), so I've decided to combine the two.

Pre-RP Setup: You were on a computer (desktop, Blackberry, one of those laptops they're giving out to African youth nowadays) and opened an email. After clicking the link in the email, your body was transported into the Digital World, along with a number of others who find themselves in the same situation.

RP Setup: When you come to, a little creature will come towards you, knowing your name but not much else. This is your Digimon.

Stuff for people who don't have any clue what a Digimon is and don't feel like reading Wikipedia:
For those who have never watched any of the Digimon animes, a Digimon is sort of like a more robust Pokemon. All Digimon are capable of speech, but they range in intelligence. Digimon also have individual personalities and moralities; evil, good, and persuasions in between exist, along with traits like laziness, humor, and all that good stuff.

Like Pokemon, they are non-human, and they are much better suited to fighting than your human character will be. Unlike Pokemon, a Digimon can change forms almost at will, a process known as digivolving, but they are restricted to a set 'evolution' path. The lower power the form is, the more stable it is (Read as: There will be a 'default' form, and then forms of various power).

The forms are ranked thusly: In-Training -> Rookie -> Champion -> Ultimate -> Mega

For the most part, your Digimon's default will be Rookie. In-Training is the cute blob that you first meet, Rookie is the ground state, and anything beyond is meant for fighting.

While In-Training is usually a cute blob with wittle cute arms and legs, Rookie and beyond are, like Pokemon, based off animal combinations, myths, or other fantastical elements. In fact, it's kind of hard to explain, so I'm just going to link you to here. Look over the ones from Digimon Adventure for the most basic progression, because thats the style of advancement I'm using for this one, although feel free to look at other examples for ideas for your own.

So, after you and your Digimon get acquainted, the Adventure Odyssey begins!

For a little bit there will be in-story restriction from advancing past Champion, but you'll deal with it. I'm not sure if how powerful the Big Bad is going to be in the end, so for now just think up a Mega form and it'll be a surprise if/when it gets called on.

Power wise, I'm going to go with a ranking system for enemies, which will basically be of the [Rank] {Form} classification. The ranks are Low, Mid, and High, and the Forms you already know. Your Digimon rank will be considered to always be Mid.

If an enemy is in the same form (let's say Champion) as your Digimon, then a Low ranking enemy only poses a risk if they gang up on you, a Mid will be considered a fair 1-on-1 fight (meaning that you can win, but I'll expect both sides to suffer injuries), and a High will take a group effort (not, however, a team effort, meaning around 2-3 as opposed to the entire pool of RPers).

If the Forms are one level different (let's say Champion v. Ultimate), the entire team will pose a difficult fight to a Low of a higher Form, a Mid would require some noble sacrifices and clever thinking from the team, and a High is completely out of the combined league. Two Forms up (Champion v. Mega as an example), irregardless of rank, is mostly about how long you can delay death in order to escape.

Any questions?

Yes.

Which season did you like the best?

I ask this, because I'm wondering what sort of scenario to expect.

Lumenskir 03-12-2008 09:37 PM

I've only watched the first and second. I know a little about the third. Beyond that I didn't keep up. If it wasn't clear, I'm sticking with the season 1 way of unbranching digivolving, because it's the most straightforward; There won't, however, be any crests or seals or overuses of words like "Friendship" and "Love".

Story wise, I've got a pretty basic story progression planned. Character interaction will be up to you, so the depth of personality and relation will be decided by you guys.

Can I be someone else's digimon?

Arcanum 03-12-2008 11:33 PM

Awesome! I loved the first season of Digimon, and the second one wasn't half bad either. I'm definately interested and will be thinking up a character.

Squee! An interesting-looking RP! However, I'm at a school laptop right now and I never finished the sheet I was working at midnight back at home. Oh, I'll kill anyone who makes a feline inspired digimon; I spent forever trying to get the names 'right'.

Color me interested, I just need to get through some crap at school first. I'll just idely plan out my stuff until then.

I'm tempted to jump in on this as well, but I can't for the life of me think of a digimon. I'll have to think on it a while.

Thank god! All other types never really sat right with me. Although what are your thoughts on warp-digivolving to mega if we ever do?

Teal Mage 03-13-2008 03:09 PM

Add me to the list of interested then, I do like Digimon after all. This sounds fun, but the main question is which Digimon to use.

I'll think of a bio some time soon...I hope.

I'm gonna say no, mostly because the human-digimon relationship is closer to two sides of a coin as opposed to two singular identities when everything is taken into consideration.

I actually didn't mind the armor and... DNA(?) digivolving, but trying to incorporate that into the RP, I thought, would have made it to confusing.

If we do get to Mega, war-digivolving will probably come into play. It's mostly a timesaver. For the record, its about 60-40 leaning to Mega forms coming into play.

Which reminds me, the Digimon-wiki I linked to has a list of pretty much every digimon branch, and I wouldn't mind you using one of those, provided it wasn't one of the 'chosen'/main digimon.
