Wild plot speculation about your favourite games
First of all, I'd just like to say that this thread isn't for you to come in and post about how little evidence there is for theory X. If you have an alternative piece of wild speculation, fine.
Anyway, here's a thread to discuss various pieces of speculation you've heard about unexplained plot points. Post your favourite theories here and discuss them. I'd like to start with one I heard recently: Ness is a reincarnation of the original Mother's Giygas. The Giygas you fight at the end of the game is what Ness would have become had he not gone on his adventure. I like this one. There isn't so much evidence for it, as there are plot points that would be more interesting if it were true. Magicant, for instance, ended with Ness fighting a personification of his dark side in the form of a Mani Mani statue; the only real symbol we had for Giygas at that point. Upon defeating it, Ness realises that he has a much vaster store of psychic power than he ever believed. Imagine him ten years later, coming into that power more fully, but without his mind cleared of evil influence, without the Power of Heart (tm) and Friendship (tm), his main friend being *Pokey*. It's not that hard to see how he might have become isolated and corrupted. In this case, the Soundstone quest was partly to give him a connection with the Earth, cementing his humanity (and allowing him access to another type of power), and partly to purify him. Upon completing Magicant, Ness speaks to himself. The self that speaks seems a fair bit wiser on the use of their power. I could see this as Giygas, now having been purified by the actions of his humanity, which would mean that now both he and Ness are being reconciled, allowing full access to his powers. It fits with the clarity Ness feels afterward too. Ness was shown to us using telekinesis very shortly after he was born. This could certainly point to reincarnation as an origin for his power. Only Ness and Giygas have access to Ness' unique ability. The Starmen have it as well, but they seem to be Giygas' most powerful minions, and we know that the people and animals he was controlling got their power from him, so it'd make a bit of sense for his highest level minions to have access to one of his more potent abilities. Finally, the Devil's Machine has Ness' face. This could be for any number of reasons, but I like this one. What do you think? Have any of your own crazy, ill-conceived ideas to share? |
From EarthBound too: Buzz Buzz is Ninten from MOTHER/EarthBound Zero and Giygas is actually protecting itself and not the evil entity of all that's wrong in the universe during the final battle.
Also, the devil's machine is actually a cervix and you being robots at that moment signifies you comitting abortion to the poor little fella. Relevant links: http://starmen.net/forum/?t=msg&th=42728 http://starmen.net/forum/?t=msg&th=44344 |
Ah yes, the fetus imagery. I came across that recently too. Now I can't fight Giygas without seeing it.
I would, however, note that it was actually Pokey who turned off the Devil's Machine. I guess that'd make him the true villain of Earthbound. I tend to take the fetus imagery as indicating someone who has retreated completely from the world. It would seem to be a somewhat common trait with Giygas of the original Mother. If Giygas is taken as Ness, that would indicate a sort of rejection of the world on his part as he grew up. |

Porky/Pokey is the true villain of the EarthBound, that's true. It becomes clearer in MOTHER 3. Another theory I laways thought was great was the one saying that saying that Shadow is Relm's father in Final Fantasy VI. However, that's not so much of a theory as the whole truth of the story. Gogo speculation, on the other hand, is far more intriguing. |
Here I thought it was pretty obvious that Gogo is Interceptor's alter-ego.

Rival is Giovanni's illegitimate son.
And so are you. |
Tabuu in Smash Bros Brawl was actually the remains of Liquid Snake's body combined with Big Boss's ashes, all dissolved in water.
Because you must have to fight Tabuu as Solid Snake. Otherwise how could you fire mortar rounds up his nose? Oh, and also, Crono is just chronologically the last Link. Magus is Ganondorf. Together they break the cycle of Ganon getting stabbed in the face, sealed, and releasing himself, and they both fight Lavos, who gave Ganondorf evil thoughts... but then, what they didn't tell you is that Lavos is actually the brother of an alternate reality of Pokey! Who is secretly a werewolf! FROM SPACE! |
My favorite has always been just one sentence, five words long.
"Alfador is the Entity." I've also always liked seeing theories about the Mega Man games, especially since the fans probably have a better idea of what's going on than the people churning them out. |

well, mine is silly but worthy anyway..
Why didnt they revived Aerith? You see, Phoenix down dosent bring people back from the dead. Nor does the Life speel or the Phoenix summon Those would only work to bring people out of comas and from unconciousness. Thus, allowing people to die in the world of RPG's. |
