So what was the worst job you ever worked at?
So how about it? What was the worst job you ever did for money. How long did you put up with it, and why was it so horrible?
I'll start. I worked at the Chamois Car Wash for ONE day. It was the worst fucking job I ever had because not only was it degrading and humiliating working with the ignorant assholes with no futures who worked there, but I had to root through the kind of shit and garbage that people don't wanna have to clean up themselves. I thought it would just be cool working on/with cars, and figured it would be a start in the industry. Holy shit was I wrong. I get nightmares just thinking about it.. |
Machine shop with no regard for safety, poor training, and a control freak boss who yelled at and berated the employees. Referred to the office women as "his herd". Really incredible. Everyone who worked there except the person who got me the job was a dick, and he quit a few weeks after I did, but only after getting hurt on the job due to the unsafe conditions.
Another time, I worked for a place that did digital school and sports photos, like for baseball teams and the like. That was okay, but again the training was very bad and asking questions was discouraged. They were better about safety there, but since there were big jugs of chemicals lying around that could make one go blind or burn the skin, it was still pretty ghetto and I was supposed to do things that I didn't really think were safe. Also some snotty secretary really had it out for me and kept telling the manager she slept with strange lies about me. I just stopped going there after a couple of weeks, they were going to fire me anyway. I haven't had very good luck with jobs. My current one isn't very good either, but it pays the bills and I can't find a better one at the moment, so. |
Cashier at McDonald's, which also holds the responsibilities for cleaning up puke from the bowels of the kids and cleaning up raw shit that somehow ended up in the ceiling of the restroom.

Telemarketing for Sears. Let that sink in for a second. Yes, telemarketing. Outbound calls, forced cheerfulness, a script we were supposed to follow to a T, supervisors screaming down your neck to pull in numbers or your job is on the line. Very stressful..I managed to last for three months before quitting. My best workbuddy there was a certified clown. Clowned on the side for extra cash. She made the hellhole barely tolerable.
Probly didn't help my case any when I told my supervisor to shut up and pull in some numbers of his own after he chastised us. Three calls and he gave up. |
My current one, cleaning out a grocery store meat department. I end up coming home every day covered in blood.

While this may make some of you cringe, I'm nearly 19 and have never worked a real job. I've interned and volunteered a LOT, so I'll just state that:
My worst experience: Changing bedpans for the elderly at a hospital. Dear god...worst "job" ever. Did it for ~1 month before I asked for a transfer to the biolab. |
While I did do slaughterhouse work, that was pretty fun, you just had to be careful in case of wet floor.
Helpdesk operative has to be worst though. You thought humanity was stupid on Monday, you think they should be wiped out by the afternoon. |
I got interviewed for a pretty bad job, Thankfully I didn't get it. Essentially what the job entailed was me calling up people who applied for a certain type of work and find out if they wanted to fill in any open positions that other employers needed filled. Here's the great part though, when I originally applied, I wanted the job that they were calling people up for, and not the actual calling part.
Think of it as reverse telemarketing. I'm not trying to sell people stuff or a service and make money off of them, I'm trying to get them to sell themselves to me to make money off the company in return for a service they provide. |
My worst job would have to be my first one, as a 'Kennel Attendant,' at a local veteranarian's office/animal boarding... place. The taking care of animals and the janitorial work weren't too bad, aside from the occasional case of diarrhea. What sucked was the fact that our boss took his managment style from the early Industrial Revolution- making me handle caustic cleaning chemicals and infectious bodily fluids with no safety equipment; no breaks, no overtime pay, no health care of any sort; plus they fired me beacuse I was going to start taking classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which were my normal days off anyway, and he didn't want to employ someone who had certain days they couldn't come in. Also, the girl they had me train as my replacement slacked off the entire time I was training her, and after I left told the boss I was the one being lazy, which he passed on to every place I applied for a job at.

Eventually, I started getting sicker and sicker and dreaded every day, but fortunately, I got a couple of jobs working at home, so I quit that job and started up these new ones. The setup for paychecks is a bit obnoxious, and I won't get my first paycheck for one job until April, but the pay is much better, and I've got the bonus of obtaining a TON of technical expertise about telephone and cable modems. It's not my dream job by any means, but it beats the holy hell out of outbound calling. Anyway, if given the choice between outbound calling and becoming a waitress, I'd rather be a waitress, even though I've tried and hated both. |
