Hamas Says It Has No Plans to Strike U.S. Targets

GAZA (Reuters) - A senior Hamas leader said on Wednesday the Palestinian militant group had no intention of attacking U.S. targets following Israel's assassination of the Islamic faction's spiritual leader.
"It's not in our policy to target Americans or American interests," Hamas political leader Sayed Seyam told Reuters. Hamas had vowed revenge against Israel for the killing of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. The United States is Israel's chief ally.

The State Department had told Americans that Hamas had threatened revenge on U.S. interests after Yassin's death, telling them to leave the Gaza Strip and also advising against travel to Israel or the West Bank.

Seyam said the travel warning was "misleading information" from a government that had blessed Yassin's killing.

The United States said it was "deeply troubled" by Yassin's assassination outside a mosque in Gaza Monday, but unlike many countries it did not condemn it.

Well, thats awfully nice of them, seeing as we didnt do anything.

do you (general you, not you specifically) think thats what they believe and thats why they claim they're not targeting us?

I think no matter what we do(including nothing) the middle eastern radicals will find some excuse to blame us and launch attacks.

I doubt any attacks on the U.S. will come from Hamas. They'll just keep butchering Israelis. If anyone's going to attack the U.S., it'll be Al Queda.

Hamas has no real reason to attack the US so I dodn't think that they will...

ok, read carefully, no has said they will attack the US, thats not feasible for a local group like hamas. There was a warning from the US govt that americans should leave the gaza strip and advising against travel to israel and west bank. so there was the claim that they would attack american civilians(because thats the kind of brutal massmurderers they are) in israel.

and if you think palestinian terrorists need real reasons to kill, then perhaps you have no idea what a terrorist is.

Ok it was poorly said, terrorists do not need any reasons.

But there haven't been any attacks against the americans...at least no yet. I do now that that doesen't mean that they could nit still attack the US, but I dodn't think it to be propable.

You must take to acount that I'm not too familiar with the situation of US in Israel and the west-bank cause we here in finland don't get too many news on the subject. I dodn't now what the US has been doing in there and were the troops are stationed...So please enlighten me.

well we have no troops in israel. israel is one of the few countries who dont need them. there are of course American civilians in israel (which is the only thing hamas really attacks).

the US is good friends with Israel since its pretty much the only democracy in the middle east. plus america has always been much less anti-semetic in general than the rest of the world historically. so we sell them some tanks and weapons and such.
