This monster needs more of a life... It can finnaly leave the house, so it hangs out in the attic.

Krylo 03-25-2004 04:00 PM

Actually... the box is on Neil (SS), Alan (Sith) had it, but Frankie (me) told him to hand it to Neil after telling him about the Mu thing, to see if he could find out more about it at the school.

And I could see us getting into a 'food fight' with the monster. "Eat the corpse so we don't have to explain it!" "Growl roar hiss" (translation: I only eat hearts) "What? You want some A1 with him? Fine! Now eat!"

And my next character is SO having maxed dodge... it seems to be the only combat skill which is equal to survival thus far.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:00 PM

There is a reason, none of you have figured it out however. I think someone mentioned the correct reason, but I don't remember who or when.

CelesJessa 03-25-2004 04:08 PM

*resists from making a ton of puns related to hearts*

Well, if it only eats hearts, then I think Krylo is safe....

So it's kinda like a REALLY violent version of the Heartless from Kingdom Hearts, in KH, they steal your heart, here... they eat it. (alright. I think I've gotten far enough off subject... time to come back.)

IHMN, your next character should be a big time hunter kind of guy (poacher maybe) so he would have lots of weapons to take care of the monster with.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:09 PM

I have decided that this guy has the second best chance of survival (Low HP, but a high HP would make him a meat shield and always go first).

Name: Dave McDhoul
Sex: Male
Age: 27
Occupation: Criminal
Birthplace: Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Background: Dave went to highschool, dropped out, then began to steal from people.

Important Non-Stats to keep in mind.

Idea Roll (INT x5) - 50

Luck Roll (POW x5) - 90

Know Roll (EDU x5) - 25

Hit Points (CON + SIZ / 2) - 6

Magic Points (POW = MAX) - 18

Disguise - 40
Handguns - 50
Locksmith - 30
Dodge - 61
Sneak - 9

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:13 PM

All stats must be at least three.

Now that it's corrected, your Dodge is formidable at 76, you have a handgun skill, and while he is for the most part an idiot at 5 EDU, he will be a good survivor, if nothing else.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:18 PM

Changed it a bit, now he can sneak around to. I am assuming that will make monsters/cult people not notice him as much.

Krylo 03-25-2004 04:19 PM

That hurts, Jessa. Really it does.

Besides... Frankie's the one who might end up getting his heart eaten, and, unlike me, he can't live without one.

Edit: Wouldn't his dodge be 86? You said it's dex x 2 for the base, right? So that would be 36 with his 18 dex... plus his 50 of actual skill, would be 86.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:20 PM

With a 40 disguise, is that good enough to disguise one self as a cult member then pretend to be one with 70 in fast talk?

Edit - kyrlo, I edited that in after he posted.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:21 PM

IHMN, sneak is a skill you need to activate, but saying, "I sneak up on..." is enough for me to do a sneak roll. However as a warning, there are both Psychic monsters, and monsters that hunt on smell, so Sneak won't work on every monster, and it won't work if you were already spotted, so no going, "The monster sees me, so I sneak up on it..."

As for the disguise, you would of course need the clothes, but it should be alright. The disguis lets you see a cultist and make sure to dress properly, and the Fast Talk should get you by many situations.

EDIT: He upped his dodge, it used to be 40 bonus, not 50.

So IHMN went from a Cop to a Criminal? Interesting.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:22 PM

It's 60 now.

He is not dieing any time soon.

Can this guy already be a vet in monster hunting?

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:23 PM

Wow, a 98% dodge... You are going to fricken dodge everything... Just watch out for those magic spells that don't rely on hit rolls...

And no, he can be some sort of big game hunter, but he gets the honor of being another new guy who gets involved somehow, just like any other new people made will be. Maybe the team could start an official investigation group to cover their monster hunting, and he could try to join.

EDIT: You also need to watch out for multi attack monsters. You can only dodge once per round, so if the enemy gets two attack successes, you going to get hit once at least.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:26 PM

Magic is what the 18 Magic Points are for.

Edit - You can't dodge twice? If something can attack twice, why can't you dodge twice?

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:29 PM

That will help, but you won't be able to resist forever. Magical monsters, powerful cultists, and Gods have a LOT of MP. As in upwards of 20, and in the case of Gods it is usually closer to 50. So you won't be invincible, but you will be hard to kill.

Cause you dodge by say leaping away, or falling back. It is hard to dodge once you are in the middle of one dodge already. I will double check the rules, but I think you can only dodge once per round. It is a concentrated action, and takes up a whole round to do.

EDIT: "If an attack can be seen, a defender may try to dodge it. Against guns, only the first bullet may be dodged."

I was getting my rules mixed up, so you can dodge lots of melee attacks if you can see it (Still wouldn't save you here, you can't "see" the Lurker), but you can only dodge one bullet at a time no matter how many there are coming at you, and you can't dodge an ambush.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:37 PM

I'm some what glad that David died. Dave (The name I have decided for this guy) is much better.

Krylo 03-25-2004 04:40 PM

What if you're blind? Then could you dodge things you can't see?

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:42 PM

No. If your blind, you are throughly screwed. You don't need to worry about seeing monsters and horrible scenes, but you can't dodge making you easy prey.

Krylo 03-25-2004 04:43 PM

Damn... I was going to suggest that Dave trip and fall on a pair of short yet sharp rocks exactly in the right space to take out both of his eyes, thus making him able to dodge anything. Other than multiple bullets in a round.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:44 PM

IHMN's char falling on sharp rocks from that one old RP is the new running gag, isn't it?

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:46 PM

Character is completely done (Crappy background abd birthplace added), so you can add him/assest him if you want.

Or should I make Dave David's brother?

Krylo 03-25-2004 04:47 PM

Well, if you do... his parents would have to be the most horribly unoriginal people ever, naming one son Dave and the other David.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:48 PM

If you want. Doesn't matter a lot. Might make him sorta angsty thought, and he is a criminal when his brother was a cop? That's straight out of the RPG cliche handbook. Do what you want, I mostly just need stats and stuff.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:48 PM

I would change his name to something else obviously (Seeing as they have different last names).

Edit - Cliche = Bad... No brothers.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:51 PM

I assume the items from David are being transferred to Dave?

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 04:51 PM

Yes, all items from David go to Dave, including the car (He will steal the car).

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 04:58 PM

I think that counts as a Mythos event, so everyone that was there just had their first Mythos related event. Update.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 05:00 PM

Would it be to much to ask for a number besides the SPs to show the begining maximun stats, like 35/40(45)? I'm just curious as to how much people have lost completely, including their max and temp.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 05:02 PM

Well, you could just add the number of Cthulhu Mythos points to the total and get the number, but in the next update I might do that.

Krylo 03-25-2004 05:02 PM

Just look at their CM and add that to their current max sanity. My old max was 75...

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 05:06 PM

I did not know that, since it went from points to a % I figured there was some sort of difference beyond just adding it up.

Also, changed the 30 Sneaking to 10, and the 30 Handguns to 50 (Duel pistols are to good... Damn you CS)

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 05:08 PM

Changed. Total now you have a 70% in Hanguns and a 20% in sneak.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 05:10 PM

Ugh... I'm conflicting with myself between duel pistols or slightly better sneaking around for when we encounter non super monster things...

How often will locks need to be picked?

Krylo 03-25-2004 05:11 PM

Go with the duel-pistols... not like they're going to actually hit you when they see you, anyway.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 05:14 PM

krylo has a point with your insane dodge. But Cultists are humans, and are just as likely as anyone to carry guns as well. Still, I vote the pistols. Sneak isn't used a ton from the scenarios I've read over so far.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 05:16 PM

I though cultist would have magic.

And will Dave be getting a character assessment like everyone else?

Edit - You can only have a max of 99% right, no 100% dodging? (Added 1 more to dodge and 1 less in stealth so its at it's max)

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 05:26 PM

Warning, after a review, you can no longer change characters.

Well, lets see...

Low STR, never good, but not always bad. Don't take this guy into melees.

Average CON, good for resisting some evil spells. Good for pumping up life. Not much else.

Average SIZ, not good or bad.

8 INT, he won't be quick on his feet, and he will have trouble learning spells, but it won't be too horrible.

DEX 18, insane, not much else to say. If you need agility or to dodge, you almost can't lose.

POW 18, practically earmarked for a sorcerer eventually with his high SAN and good MP amount, but the INT will temper his ability to comprehend magic.

APP 12, will help with his Fast Talk, and will mean if he takes APP damage, he will still have a reserve.

EDU 5... He is a high school drop out. Heck, he is probably a middle school drop out. He doesn't know a lot at all.

Skillwise, He can wheel and deal with the best of him with his high FT, and he can shoot them afterwards with a high Handgun, and nothing short of a machine gun or a room full of cultists can hit him and his 98% dodge, but other then those average. He is a meat shield, but he is all shield and no meat. Has the potential for magic, but his low INT will slow down his attmempts.

EDIT: You changed dodge before the review came out, so I will cahnge it. And no, you can never hit 100%

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 05:27 PM

Edu is 9, not 5...

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 05:30 PM

Oops, must have forgotten one of the updates, hold on.

For the most part, my assesment stands. However, he would probably be on a High school drop out level of EDU.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 07:34 PM

What is the requirement for the levels of insanity? Shouldn't at least someone have some insane thing/reaction (Looking at the points it seems like some one should have, but I forgot the requirements).

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-25-2004 07:49 PM

Right. Journal destroyed ...

IHMN, do you have any reference to the situation in which you got the journal back from Gabriel? I don't recall ever handing it back, and if that were true, he would still have it.

It's not entirely important, but I still would like closure on this.

Oh, and it's juvenile to wish death upon someone for very little reason. Not that you would care, or anything.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 07:54 PM

I asked in discussion thread somewhere if David could have taken journal from Gab (Figured it would be useful), FZ said yes (Gab would have left on a counter, David take), so David had the journal.

And it's not like I personally want you to die, just your character, and possibly you suffer a little.

Krylo 03-25-2004 07:57 PM

People did have insanity reactions. Frankie was rooted to the spot with intense fear... that was one of them, and Alan screamed like a little girl and then passed out.

It was only temp insanity...

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-25-2004 07:59 PM

Fz was refering to the key, I believe.

And you better get a hold of that animosity, kiddo. That attitude problem is going to really suck for everyone around you when you hit puberty.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 08:00 PM

Yes, for temp insanity, you need to lose 5 or more SP in one hour of game time. To go Indefinitly insane, you need to lose more then 20% of all your SP in one hour game time. So lets say...

Bob has 50 San. Bob freaks out, and loses 5. He goes temperarily insane, and passes out for 10 minutes. When he wakes up, there is a horrible monster over him. He loses 5 more. Now he has lost 10 SP, and that is 20% of his total San in under one hour, so for the next month or so, he has developed a long term mental disorder from his panics and bad situations.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 08:02 PM

No no, I specificly said journal, and he replied.

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-25-2004 08:06 PM

Ahh, yes. I see.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 08:07 PM

Indeed, I gave him the journel. And of course, that is the last time I give him anything of that magnitude...

Still, like I said, it is irrelevant. Once you transalte the papers and Demon arrives, you'll have everything you need.

And if anyone wants a time jump, say so, but the main party takes precedence as a warning.

EDIT: Wrong, not Demon, SS and Jad, they have the gold box.

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-25-2004 08:08 PM

Well, in the end, he did give you his heart.

Zing!

-edit: Well, if I time jumped to the house, that would be three hours of them scared out of their minds trying to decide whether or not to leave ... but it would give Gabe the chance to die a terrible, terrible death. And that would make IHMN giggle with glee ... Tough choice.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 08:08 PM

I was just being logical. He keeps thing in his coat's inside0 pocket, coat pockets tend to be around the heart, his heart was torn out, therefore the journal should be gone.

And some spite.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 08:10 PM

Coat pockets... External ones? Depends on which side of your body your heart is on... about 18% of Americans or something have their heart on the opposite side of their body from waht you would expect... and David DID have a really big luck roll...

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 08:12 PM

He has a huge hole in his chest along wiht many cuts. I'd be suprised if the coat was still on him at all.

Darth SS 03-25-2004 08:14 PM

*coughSSspostpleasereplycough*

Yes, but IHMN, if you do still have the journal okay, is anyone really dumb enough to go back in to find it?

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 08:15 PM

Go back? They are all still right next to the bleeding and rotting corpse of David, which is inside of the farm which they are all in, with the monster.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 08:15 PM

Note the detials, multiple times I've said a neat hole. The only part the Lurker likes is the warm, beating heart. The rest is just garbage it chews through on the way there. This is a creature that eats holes in birds and raccoons without eating anything more then the heart.

SS, I'll give you and JADGuy and update in a sec. This will let everyone meet back up at the farm for, *ahem* "THE BIG FINALE!" And think, this is just one mission, and the first ones are always the easiest!

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-25-2004 08:17 PM

And the verdict on the 'Time Warp' .. thing ...?

CelesJessa 03-25-2004 08:18 PM

What kinds of coats are we talking about. Usually coat pockets are by the sides. And how small is the journel anyway? I don't even have mangas small enough to fit into a pocket. (and those are small books.)

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 08:18 PM

When I am done, SS and JAD will arrive at 5:00 PM, and Demon will arrive at 6:00 PM, but no one in the main party has spoken about wanting a time warp. Ahh what the hey, I'll allow it, just hold on for me to write it all up.

EDIT: Demon, sorry, but until I know what the House party (Don't comment on my choice of words, or someone will get hurt) will be doing before and during 6:00 PM, I can't advance you to that point yet.

Darth SS 03-25-2004 08:20 PM

Whoops, sorry IHMN.

Assumed your corpse was left inside of the room with the lurker.

Heh....heh...*flees*

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-25-2004 08:22 PM

Kay. You did take note of the things he's bringing (buying, really), including the nonaformentioned object of somewhat importance, and you're okay with all of it?

edit- Gabriel's 'jacket' is more of a suit ... jacket. Those have pockets by the heart, and can easily fit a small book. I'm not sure if IHMN is talking about the same kind of jacket. I hear 'Detective' and I think of a guy in a brown trenchcoat.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 08:25 PM

Lesse, you can have two flashlights, and everything you need for the ceremony is already at the house. Thus, explain Blankets, Taper Candles, and Matches and why you need them (A few people already have lighters and/or matches.)

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 08:26 PM

Oh, add a flashlight to Dave's items as well.

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-25-2004 08:28 PM

Blankets because it's a drafty barn, and will probably get very cold even with a roaring fireplace. Taper candles burn for a long time, and can provide the rooms with light, and the matches are to light them, or the fire.

And the nonaformentioned item is just a nonaforementioned item. That's all.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 08:29 PM

Alright, you can have them.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 08:37 PM

You may want to bury David's body, or at least move it to the basement if you are still unsure aobut going outside. The room will need to be cleared out some because the ceremony must be performed in there, since it is the only room with a fireplace...

Krylo 03-25-2004 09:27 PM

When we loot his body after moving it into the basement, I call the coke.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 09:29 PM

One of his guns is gone, and why would you want to drink blood covered coke?

Krylo 03-25-2004 09:38 PM

It probably wouldn't have that much blood all over it, given how cleanly the beast killed David. Besides... I'd rinse it off first...

Squishy Cheeks 03-25-2004 09:48 PM

"ah... ahh...Ahhhh....AHHHH....HASTUR!!" I sneeze.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 11:05 PM

Who/what is Hastur?

And normally I wouldn't want FZ to give all of the living people hints so they could die, but I want to get back in this, so help them out FZ...

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 11:08 PM

I don't know why they stopped posting. I assume everyone wants me to jump to 6:00 so Demon can show up, then midnight so that everyone is there and ready for the ceremony?

And Hastur would take a long description, but he is one of the more powerful Great Old Ones. He is probably in the Top three for power with Cthulhu. He seems to be a favoirte of JAD, although I'm not sure why. Maybe he reads User Friendly, Hastur pops up there every once in a while.

Krylo 03-25-2004 11:09 PM

Hastur is one of the great old ones, I think, albeit I'm not sure.

And, we know what we have to do... we have just about everything we need, except for it to be midnight and the gold box, it's just that no one is helping Frankie loot your corpse, and maybe fulfill necrophilliatic lusts w... wait... wait... YES! If one of my characters achieve indefinate insanity he will develop necrophillia. No one will want to die before him... muahahaha.

IHateMakingNames 03-25-2004 11:15 PM

Puh, you just thought of that? That was the first thing I thought of when I read the wierd sexual desires. But before that, I read the fetish thing (First of course was sexual fetishs), but then I mixed odd sexual desires with fetish of being attached to a rock, which would need some drilling first to work.

Darth SS 03-25-2004 11:16 PM

Mental note to self....make sure Krylo always enters rooms first....

And IHMN? It could be worse. You could find yourself with a sudden liking to Lurkers. Yep, that'd show them to mess with your group.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 11:17 PM

... Ew...

Yes, something needs to be done with the body, and then I will jump time ahead.

As for history, umm, I dunno. The summoners are the first to release the Lurker. It hasn't done much but feed on small animals unfortunate enough to enter the attic. Now with teh last summoner free, it is free to go out at night and feast on whatever it wants.

The past owners are totally irrelevant, except for the summoners. They all owned it jointly, but as they died total ownership was split less and less until the house was given to Merriweather. Now you guys own it, congratualtions.

I would give a full report on Hastur, but it is irrelevant. Maybe if I'm bored later and posting lsows down again before I log off. Oh, and I won't be around this weekend, going on a trip.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 11:23 PM

SS, you are so making up BS as you go along... You know none of that is officially sancitoned by the GM...

Darth SS 03-25-2004 11:25 PM

Pretty much.

Only thing I've learned all through high school.

How to BS my way through anything without doing anything horribly wrong, and not doing anything horribly right.

Now i'm going to vainly hope I didn't go overboard.

Truce 03-25-2004 11:53 PM

SS, that's pretty much the same for me.

Anyway, I'll be a chanter for this.

Krylo 03-25-2004 11:55 PM

I call being a chanter, being as that my physical stats suck and my mental ones are good. Probably McGrudder and that guy who said he knew latin besides him as well. Jim should be a watcher with his rifle... and Alan should be a watcher due to having low power for this group... other than that, I don't know.

Forever Zero 03-25-2004 11:57 PM

Anyone with a POW over 8 can be a chanter. For every 30 minutes you chant, it costs 2 MP, and if your MP hits zero, you pass out, thus only those with 9 or more MP can go the whole ceremony without passing out.

Oh, and sanity will be important to. You need a high sanity, or bad stuff might happen...
