Graphics Cards for MMORGPs
I was talking to my friend yesturday. He is an Everquest player but the recently upped the graphics. Now you need to buy a graphics card to play it. I had to do the same for my SWG game. Is it too much to ask for games to work on a new model PC? I got my computer about 2 months after the game came out and I still needed a $100 dollar card.

Or you could buy the computer with it? When you get your next computer, ask about it. Usually it costs less when it comes with. We have the same problem on Knight of the Old Republic. Sure you can still play it, but it freezes every once and a while and the graphics reach sub par.

What are the lowest system requirements, and compare them to yours.
If you have a 32 bit card, I suggest upgrading too a 128 bit(I'm seeing decent 128 bit cards for $80 from Radeon on zipzoomfly) If your going to buy a new card, do it from zipzoomfly.com (used to be googlegear), it's a lot cheaper then anything I see at a comp usa or best buy( i bought my radeon 9200 for $128, a few months ago, I'm seeing the same card for $84 on zzf, while the comp usa price is around $110 from last week) putting in a video card isn't all that hard, it's just a matter of popping the old card from your motherboard, putting in the new one and then installing the drivers for the new card(comes with the card). Not much you can screw up with, not like a processor. If your computer is hitting lag, it might also be the ram. If your running 256 ram, you'll probably have problems with new games( i did but I just upgraded to one gig). I'm severely against buying your computer from anywhere like sears or comp usa because you don't know if they used old parts, cheap parts, or what not until you've got it home and checked the pc in control panel, which you won't know where to look if you got it from sears generally. You can put together a pc for about $750 to $850 for a pretty much top of the line pc. If you are gonna buy a pc, get it from gateway and do a little reading up on comps and what you want in it. Will cost a little more but you won't have to install the driers |
No I mean cant play as in wont work. Not cant play as in is too glitchy. With out these souped up cards you can't play the game at all.

I didn't have a problem running the original daoc on a 32 bit card. However I couldn't run the expansion pack and I had to upgrade.
Do you know if you have the latest version of directx installed |
Look I have installed a card and it works now. The point is I shouldn't need to get a new one at all.
|
directx isn't a card, it's a program that most games require. you can check google, and download the newest version if don't already have it
|
I know that, the game came with it.
|
Unfortunatly, you may need to. Most computers come with a card even worse then bad because of reliability. Thankfully though my Compaq actually came with it, and 4 free games. Need for Speed game, Sim City 3000 Unlimited, a great golf game and an even better baseball game. Of corse now these games are outdated, but the graphics card is kickass while Warcraft III is near perfect on it's highest quality, while on my other computer (with KotOR) couldn't even play the cut scenes.

heh, so they forced you to buy a graphics card? those bastards. now you'll be forced to endure crisper graphics, smoother frame rates and more collors.
those bastards. |
