The Burning Horizon: Exalted leftovers interest

Hello all. Since there wasn't enough room in Raiden's RP, and since I've got the exalted itch, I'm proposing an alternate Exalted RP.

This one won't be intermixing with Raiden's in any way shape or form, so we won't need to worry about crossover possibilities or any of that nonsense.

I'm thinking of using first edition rules, not because I like them more from a mechanics standpoint, simply because they offer a wider base to work from. I am probably going to run a campaign based on the locust crusade (Creation vs. Alchemicals vs. Deathlords vs. Angry Incarnae (or Kukla, you know what I mean)

So post if you're interested, and maybe a basic character concept here. All exalt types except alchemicals welcome (might consider allowing them later as the focus shifts though) Will consider fair folk and mortals on a case by case basis, but try and stick to the celestial exalt types please.

Also, since I plan to have the action hot and heavy right off the bat I will be giving free xp at character creation, so hopefully everyone is at least somewhat familiar with the system.

And no broken characters, they must all be viable mechanically as well as conceptually. I don't want to see 14 dots in earthshaking artifacts coupled with 0 defense, you dig me?

Cool, take it away folks!

Having played a fair number of OWoD characters counts as experienced, right?

Also, I only have the 2nd Ed book.

I'm going to need somebody to explain the differences.

Funka Genocide 04-13-2008 11:42 AM

Well if most everyone wants to use 2e then I should be able to convert alchemicals without too much trouble.

And yeah, familiarity with a d10 based system helps, Exalted is a little more over the top than say, Mage, but it shouldn't be a stretch to pick it up.

Any ideas for your character's concept?

Nanny Ogg, except male, and with less sex.

Basically he can stroll into just about anywhere, talk a few people up, and within a few days everybody will think he belongs there, nobody will question his presence, and they'll generally all be happy to see him.

I'll not be taking any backgrounds which involve STUFF, and there's no chance in hell of me being any good in a fight, but if we need to get into some lair that's locked tight as a drum, all I have to do is stroll up to the gate, have a friendly chat, wander around inside a bit, helpfully run errands for a few people, do chores in such a way so I'm visibly seen as a helper, wander out, and come back in saying "oh, this is just Dan, he's going to be helping me with something, don't mind him."

I'll be having high compassion and either high conviction or temperance for my virtues.

Compassion will be my flaw; I can fit in just about anywhere because I really do care about the people I'm getting in good with, but this makes it harder for me to help people attack the group I'm insinuating myself into.

Funka Genocide 04-13-2008 11:59 AM

hmm...

I'd suggest trying to start with a characterization first, his personality and history should help develop his practices and methods.

Also, You're going to need at least some capability in a fight, I'm not saying you need to master the imperfect lotus and be a nigh-unstoppable juggernaut of certain demise, but you should be able to at least handle extras with little fuss and survive at least one serious attempt on your life from an exalt of equivalent power.

Defensive charms and ox-body are a must, I'd suggest relevant combat abilities and defenses at 3 minimum.

But yeah, come up with some backstory, throw together a character sheet and we'll work from there.

Bailey 04-13-2008 12:19 PM

Alright. I'm probably going with night or eclipse for this, so my "combat skills" are going to primarily consist of dodge, but I could throw a few into martial arts and say that I've been in enough tavern brawls to know how to throw a punch. Or a table.

I'm putting his compassion at four minimum, so I'm going to say that he really just likes to be around friendly people, and he cares for the people around him. All of his skills at getting into places are going to be based around caring about the people he's talking to. He might get into a heavily fortified base by curing a lost soldier's infected foot and being guided in as the guy who saved the foot, or he might offer to help wash the floor if that friendly guy he met at the bar says that he's going to be in trouble for not cleaning the war room in time. I'm going to say he grew up somepkace crazy with lots of chores that needed doing with nobody paying much attention to who was doing them. So an army base is right out, but an opera house or a school could work. So he's the son of possibly a janitor or some such who worked at an opera house or a large school. He probably spent a lot of time in whatever counted as the medical wing, because when he was helping there he could directly help save lives, and that made him feel good.

Okay, yeah, eclipse caste, with the favored abilities of awareness, larceny (you use this to SET UP security, right?), lore, medicine, and performance.

I think. I might change it up some.

Interested, as one of many things. Possibly the sidereal I proposed for the other RP, but probably not. I've PMed you (funka) my concepts.

I'll see what everyone else is interested in playing first.

Funka Genocide 04-14-2008 05:12 PM

Well I was thinking about a few interesting story hooks today at work and I feel I've got some good one.

Going to need more interest before I post a sign up thread. Looking to have sign ups done and the rp started by the end of the week hopefully.

Krylo 04-14-2008 08:00 PM

Formally expressing interest, because it may drum up more interest which may get this thing moving.

I've only got like five hundred characters I can play.

Funka Genocide 04-16-2008 06:13 PM

ok, well I'll just go ahead and post a sign up thread probably later this evening. I think we've got four people, that should be enough. I'll run it with three if I have to.
