Oh God! He Did It Again!

*eyeshift* What'd I do? Oh yeah... made another comic.
http://www.geocities.com/iocules/comic.html
it's the second one... I'll do the poll thing. you give me questions, comments, suggestions, and insults in the usual manner, I'll make fun of you with my friends, and stuff... or something... whatever... just tell me what you think.

Dr DR 03-26-2004 03:52 PM

Its even more... interesting... than the last one. I seriously didn't actually spot a joke here. No part was even remotely funny. Sorry for being a jerk and all but, well it isn't.

behemoth 03-26-2004 03:54 PM

I need to stop making the jokes somewhat complicated.

Dr DR 03-26-2004 03:57 PM

Complicated? How? If anything make it more complicated. Oh dear I've just been hit by a large object "jokes" really aren't funny unless pulled off with incredible wit. Try to be a little different, a little more complex, often the best sort of jokes are the one's where something happens and you aren't expecting it.

behemoth 03-26-2004 03:58 PM

obviously you don't get the WHOLE point of the comic, and I won't bother to explain it to you. if you don't get it, you don't get it.

Dr DR 03-26-2004 04:03 PM

What's not to get? Fighter makes hammer-chucks, gives them to WM. BM predictably hits on WM. WM hits him with hammer-chucks. BM attacks fighter. RM and thief comment. BB complains. That seems to be more or less it.

BMHadoken 03-26-2004 04:04 PM

I think at some point WM attacks fighter, since that would explain all the tinking...but its still not that humorous. That first comic was.

Dr DR 03-26-2004 04:05 PM

No, I'm pretty sure thats BM attacking Fighter.

BMHadoken 03-26-2004 04:08 PM

Oh...yeah, still not funny. And I get it. (BM: I wuv WM, I get hit with mystery weapon made by fighter, I go kill fighter now.)

Dr DR 03-26-2004 04:09 PM

Yah. Seriously try working a non-sequitur in there for a change.

behemoth 03-26-2004 04:16 PM

It's pretty hilarious at 2 in the morning.

Dr DR 03-26-2004 04:18 PM

Ahhh... now the real reasoning comes out. I am suddenly filled with sympathy. I've been there mate, rushing out a comic for the next day late at night, and having it turn out crappy.

BMHadoken 03-26-2004 04:20 PM

But what deadline were you trying to meet behemoth? I'm pretty sure none of us would have been slitting our wrists if you had decided to sleep in and make some sense...

I had been working on a project and was bored and decided to take a break and do something fun. No deadline. Just boredom.

Helpful advice:
Do not save in JPEG format unless the file would be over 3 megs otherwise. Use PNG form. JPEGS blur sprites, text, and bubbles, and everything else you can think of. Most of the red-on-black text is not readable. FF1 sprites are used to death, especially ones that have Clevinger-esque personalities. Characters and personalities from different games would be refreshing. I haven't seen a good FFII through FFV parody yet. (Don't use megaman either, there are about 18 million megaman comics). I liked the desert background, but why were they in the desert? The last comic was in a forest. There is no cohesiveness between comics. A great point behind Brian's comics is that they build upon each other. The light warriors don't run around in random places swinging around chuck-weapons at each other. That would get stale. Sit down for a little bit, and write a plot. Then write subplots. Then you have a "series" of comics that will tell a story and will entertaining to read.
If you enjoy making these comics and are serious about making more, you will not be afraid of criticism. It is the only way you will get better. The day it stops being fun, stop making them. Make a story you enjoy telling, and we will enjoy reading it. The importance, for me at least, is a story. Good jokes are just little gems that some writers can throw in there to make it that much better, but the story should be the heart and soul of your work. Webcomics are a wonderful new art form, and I would love to see the community grow. Keep working hard. Even Brian, after 400 episodes, learns as he goes and grows better with time. Keep learning and you will entertain us.
-Sorry for the long post.

AndyBloodredMage 03-26-2004 07:25 PM

^ Well THAT was incredibly insightful. Said what I was going to, and a whole lot more. Good advice overall. But when you say II-V, you imply you've seen VI+ parodies somewhere. Might I request a link to some of these? The good ones, I mean.

behemoth 03-27-2004 12:06 PM

I think part of the point of the comic was I was trying a hand at an 8 bit theater comic... thus the title. and is 5.8 megs more than 3? there's no cohesiveness between comics cuz they're not suppose to be related, they're just comics that I make when I need to take my mind off of things for a bit. and for 2 in the morning in between working on servers, it's not bad, I thought.

Halerthorn 03-27-2004 01:19 PM

It was good, It made me laugh, but why not work a little harder on it, and dont do it at 2 am agian, if you do it agian you may get somethin like this.
ITs a comic i make for my friends site, the first 5 are an example of repeating the 2 am thing
This is a part of a comic i made,

Neo-Tsunami 03-28-2004 02:22 PM

It's kinda like my webcomics...the first...um...threee i think aren't funny to people who don't know me and my friends well. Yours is kinda like an 8-bit Theatre rip-off. Your humor is a bit silly, though. You just need to exploit it a little bit and your comics will be funnier.

I'm still struggling with my drawings but the strips are getting funnier :P....>_<

behemoth 03-28-2004 05:11 PM

I've been considering doing an 8 bit comic with the theme of dbz vs 8 bit theater. actually was gonna make an animated gif of it. I think it'd be kinda funny. I was also considering making a thing with fighter going ssj and stuff. that one'd look cool

Loyal 03-29-2004 01:55 PM

First one: Hilarious!!!!!!!
Fighter, you got a spider on your crotch! Use this to kill it!!
WHAM!!!!!!
Thank you, BM.

Second one, not so much...

behemoth 03-29-2004 02:14 PM

I'm gonna remake the first one so the text is a little bigger so yall can read it, cuz that seems to be the major complaint about it.

Stabbitty Death 03-29-2004 09:17 PM

Same complaints as before. Stale jokes, and no point. It's ok that you use ff1 sprites, I'm thinking of doing it to. Just use some originality. I have an idea already for a comic, I just need to learn how to sprite. But there absolutely no chucks, no stupid fighter, no stabbity death, and no BM WM love.

AndyBloodredMage 03-29-2004 09:24 PM

Now the love part I think is a bit unfair. The opposites of a black mage and a white mage would be a good love interest, especially considering that WM is the only (EDIT)LEAD female role.

not true... Evil Princess Sarah

Stabbitty Death 03-29-2004 09:29 PM

But for all we know the WM could be a guy. No one knows. Brian thinks she's a girl, so she's a girl. But the point is that Behemoth should move away from 8-bit steriotypes.

dude... he showed a picture of her in http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=010503
so I'm going offa that
if that's a dude... he's hot

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 09:35 PM

And in the strategy guide WM is refered to as "he". And in Orgins WM looks more masculan then feminame. Brain just decided to call WM a women, then found a picture of a girl with red hair in white robes to match the sprite.

AndyBloodredMage 03-29-2004 09:36 PM

O right, I forgot he could change gender to fit his story. I never played 1, so I didn't realize how much was original and how much was rip-offery.

Bob The Mercenary 03-29-2004 10:24 PM

I think I see your problem, but it's only slight. BM's incessant degradation of Fighter is a little redundant. Pull back off of that a little next time. And for some reason, I find the end the funny part. Some of it made me laugh, but a lot of it felt forced.

You're pulling a lot from Brian. Try taking something and making it your own. I don't want to sound crude, but it looks like you tried too hard. Next time, try making it more subtle.

LOL Like I said before, it's pretty good for 2 in the morning.

dkhyrosha 03-30-2004 04:49 PM

I like the comics!

:bmage: Dani

AndyBloodredMage 03-30-2004 04:53 PM

the first one was kind of blatant ripoffery. The latter was just not funny.

Ingonyama 04-04-2004 10:22 AM

I liked them...thought Hammerchucks were a neat idea. If Brian had written it, we'd all be fawning. The fandom just hates fan-created work.

Dr DR 04-04-2004 11:28 AM

I disagree. If Brian had written this I'd still be skeptical of the dubious 2 in the morning quality.

behemoth 04-05-2004 08:25 PM

hey! I moved the comics, they're now at http://allenimages.8m.com/Comics/comics.html
I added a couple of new ones too... one 8 bit theater based, one is based on a mud I work on.
enjoy

dkhyrosha 04-09-2004 01:54 PM

cute!!
