Scary Go Round is a totally excellent comic

I must begin by saying that I am disappointed in Katiuska for not making this thread.

That said Scary Go Round is a totally great comic with almost unnatural amounts of charm and whimsy. I find an easy way to describe this comic is "Like if Questionable Content were British, and also one hundred million times better than Questionable Content." British people may consider the preceding statement to be a redundancy, but hey, who kicked whose ass in the Revolution? Yeah, that's right.

Also it has educational value! I totally did not know that France had an actual Easter Bell. But I looked it up and it is true! I do have to note that I dislike that "The Boy" has an actual name now. I found it much more fitting when The Boy was presumed to be his actually given name.

So anyway this is a thread for talking about this totally great comic.

I dont know if that was sarcasm or truth. In any case, I'm scared to click the link.

Reading the comic, it is pretty good. It's kind of a mix of dark and gritty with light and humorous, with nothing in between. I like it. Funny too.

Scary Go Round and Gunnerkrigg Court are the reasons why Britain is awesome.

I love Scary Go Round.

So much.

So much.

Hey, I was totally going to get to it... soon.

I have to say, I started reading Questionable Content because when I came across it, the Scary-Go-Round influence was still a lot more obvious, and I figured that anything influenced by Scary-Go-Round warranted further attention.

The thing about reading Scary-Go-Round for any length is that inspires you to talk in the same manner. Doing so can actually give you an appreciation for the skill involved; I mean, it's easy enough to reproduce the basic structure, but it takes a certain artfulness to affect it in a way that's anywhere near as lovely and endearing as Scary-Go-Round dialogue.

Story-wise, one defining feature is John A.'s knack for wonderful plot twists. More things need to be this whimsical. Though yeah, giving The Boy a name beyond "The Boy" kind of spoils the idea of having him known to everyone as "The Boy."

It's also visually pleasing. He's continually making efforts to improve the art style (granted, with a couple odd missteps)... though while his hand drawings have long surpassed SGR's vector days, it was still a vector comic when I started reading it, so I have to admit I do have a special place in my heart for that style.

Why all the picking on poor Useless?

OK, I was a little dissapointed too.

I'm sorry, but I have to say something.

John A. cuts to the heart of things.

See also: Portland.

(Also shocking: Amy's hair.)

I know! Tumult lurks in Scary Go Round like a lion on the veldt, before you even suspect it is coming it is suddenly upon you!

Also I think we can all agree the comic needs 350% more Des. He's just like "I'm a fish-man with green scales and a speedo, I can be exactly as much of a jackass as I please."

It's nice to see someone likes my state, even if she's mad as five hatters.

Although every man in the world would go after her if she actually existed.

Fifthfiend 05-20-2008 09:51 PM

Does "every man" included powerful yet lonely Japanese financiers?

Why yes, yes it does!
