"Son Of A MONKEY'S BUTTOCKS!"
Now, most of you have probably experienced this:
You've gotten really far in this game. Like - last level, last couple of things to do... You just need to jump a gap. So, you save before you jump, run, jump, and.... fall. Well, no worries - you've saved - so as you're falling, you quickly go to the load screen, click "Load," and load your game. However, in your hurry, you accidentally click "Save," and end up saving your game as you fall and die. Then you scream something about monkey buttocks. So I did that today. (><) I think I can fix it, but after an Hour and a half of Thief 2, I dun wanna go through it all if I can't. And I gotta be at work in... about an hour or so. So Share your stories so that we can all laugh at each other and I'll feel better when I come home at seven in the morning. |
A friend of mine saved over my Skies of Arcadia file. I had the Vyse the Legend title and was at the last save point. I had not beaten the game.
I still haven't beaten that game, and probably never will. I had 110 hours in that game. Man, that still pisses me off. Let us never speak of that game ever again. |
Between that and just various forms of being tossed back a good hunk of time in a game, there's probably 10 games I have lying around that I have never finished, and may never finish. Some of them still piss me off.

Oh man, I've done that. In "Jedi Academy," my QuickSave and QuickLoad buttons were right next to each other. I was fighting some random dark jedi or another, and I was just about to die. The jedi swings his lightsaber, I know I'm doomed, I angrily pound on QuickLoad.... and suddenly SAVED GAME: QUICK appears on my screen. After the save is complete, the lightsaber hits Jayden and she dies. A stream of obscenities flies through the room. I didn't have to restart the game completely, as eventually I managed to load the crappy save, jump backwards really quick, run like crazy, and heal myself, but it still annoyed me.
No, I don't know why I play "Jedi Academy" either. |
I generally don't have a problem with saving over my own stuff, but when I let other people play my games... sometimes it happens.
Star Ocean 3: I was 20 hours into the game. My best friend accidentally saved over it with her 2-hours-into-it game. I replayed it and made it to the end. Final Fantasy 12: 80-ish hours... saved over again by same friend. ;_; Luckily I had already beaten the game, I just lost my save slot. It's alright though, because I tend to use more than one save slot if I can, so I just have to use my old one and do a couple things to get back where I was, if I ever feel like playing that save again. Chrono Trigger: Lent it to a (different) friend. Something happened and the entire game's memory got wiped. Wasn't that bad, since I would play through Chrono Trigger anyway if it got deleted or not. But yeah, I've saved over my own stuff before, much cursing follows. |
I did this to my mother's Super Mario World data, when I was five years old. She had gotten to the Special World and had almost beaten all of the levels therein. I do not know how much time she invested in the game, but I do know that I had spent a great deal of time watching my mother guide that mustachioed plumber through the perils of Dinosaur Land. For whatever reason, I had decided to begin my own game, perhaps in an attempt to emulate my mother. In a highly predictable conclusion, I accidentally replaced my mother's save file with my own.
It was then that she charged me with conquering the game myself. And thus began my life as a gamer. Besides that, I've inadvertently saved over, replaced, and deleted so many files the list would require a couple of pages worth of posts. |
The first time I played Half-Life and HL2 I lived in constant terror of this happening to me. Didn't happen, but I was afeared.
Back when I was still in middle school, I occasionally went to this day-care thing, where I first met one of my best buds. Although there was a SNES with SMRPG there, the staff was real big on great outdoorsy hiking, so it took us a couple of years to get to Smithy's factory. When we were on the last save point, last in the whole game, one of the other kids deliberately wiped our save out of spite. |
I know this has happened to me, gotten up a huge amount of hours on something, then saved over the file, but I can't for the life of me remember when. I may actually have suppressed the memory.

I've done this on my FF9 game. I had my one file that beat everything did almost everything just ready to beat Ozma. Later I start a new file to refresh my memory of the first disc. And as soon as I get into it, I go to the first save point and spam X through it. As soon as I see "Overwriting data..." I realize what I did and literally jumped out of my chair for the playstation. Unfortunately that did nothing and I lost my save. :(

Never done this ever, cause I'm not retarded.
And if you do it with a quicksave/quickload I have no sympathy. Those two functions are a boon from the devil and I refuse to use them, thus explaining why I'm safe. |
