Combined the doctor and the engineer can fix the problems.
Wee, I'm useful for more than just ship repair!

Also, I'm not exactly sure what an ammonia-based creature would eat, but I think it would be different(?) I'll defer to Dauntasa's astrobiology credentials for help.

They'd drink ammonia instead of water(water would probably kill them) but aside from that it really depends on what the rest of the alien's biology is like.

I should assume my character would have similar information about the world to come as GARUD's does? Which means I don't necessarily know jack's shit about Scavian law?

Aerozord 04-26-2008 02:55 PM

well depends on my whim. For all you know there is a 'converting oxygen to carbon dioxide' tax.

I'm hoping to throw in abit of everything you need to worry about in this particular episode, so you can be better prepared for the more extremes of it. The fact you dont know about a cultures customs, laws, regulations, ect being among them.

Duno if this is a bit late in coming or not, but seeing as there's still one place open (and an important one as well), I figured I'd give it a try;

Name: Dr Simon Reynolds
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Occupation: Physacist/Inventor
Position: Scientist
Modifications: None
Weapons: Gravity manipulator; a device resembling a Goa'uld hand device, it sits in the palm of the hand and at first glance appears to be a modification to Simon himself. It allows Simon to either push objects away with a forceful push of gravity, or pull objects towards him and keep them afloat for short periods of time. However, the weight limit seems to be around a quarter of a ton and even then objects will only move very slowly and the power drains incredibly quickly.
Electrokinetic manipulator; Similar to the G-man in design, the E-man enables the wearer to zap people and objects with electricity stored within the devices battery. It is only good for ten lethal shots and is usually kept on half power, to merely stun enemies.

Both of these devices were invented by Simon and are powered by an ionized plasma.

Bio: Born on Earth to an upper-class family, Simon was always fascinated by science and the universe and was quickly identified to be a "genius". He later became a respected scientist for the Terran federation and began work travelling around the known universe on various research vessels, before eventually finding himself working on new IND designs for faster travel, hoping that his work would allow man to travel even further into the unknown. But then his work took a more sinister turn; with human expansion into space practically halted, the Terran government turned back to that good old staple; weapon design. After a few years he began work on a new ship, the Excelsior, a cruiser with the power of a warship.

Not wishing to repeat the mistakes of previous scientists like Oppenheimer, Simon devised a plan to break into the drydock and blow the ships reactor. He built his two new weapons to accomplish this, but before the plan could be accomplished the ship was stolen... with him still on board. This turn of events, as unexpected as it was, definately served it's purpose though; the Terrans lost their ship and he got his chance to explore the galaxy, which was all he had ever wanted. He gladly joined the crew and set off for the expanse.

Aerozord 04-27-2008 09:55 AM

you know 'standerd power interface' doesn't really exist in the expanse. Actually nothing is standerd in the expanse. Even if everywhere in the expanse the interface was the same (its not) then it would probably be different then Terran ones.

For everyone, this kinda thing is common. Even fuels and ship componets will vary. This can be especially bad if in that region of space everyone uses artificial black holes as power but you need a specific type of plasma

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 04-27-2008 10:17 AM

Yeah, by that I meant Terran standard, and seeing as we have a Terran ship I could just draw power from there. So I'd basically be limited until I could get back to the ship and recharge. Or I could change it so that I need a particular kind of power cell, which I'd have to barter for if you prefer.

Aerozord 04-27-2008 10:28 AM

actually, yea that sounds better, and better keeps with one thing I am trying to get in this RP and that limited resources.

Though I'll tell you now it is mid game, so even upon approval I'll let the players decide if you may enter

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 04-27-2008 10:44 AM

Ok, edited, hope that's ok now.

Oh and one question; does the Excelsior have a science/astrophysics lab and/or machine shop on board? The science lab would obviously be of great use to me and a machine shop is presumebly needed by everyone for the manufacture of their various ammos and such.

Aerozord 04-27-2008 10:52 AM

The Excelsior was designed to have a crew between 20-30, although with only three it can be effectively piloted. Because there obviously isn't that many you have alot of unused rooms to do with what you will. The labs are rather simple, this was designed to be a military ship after all, but nothing stopping you from modifying some rooms... well besides lack of equipment, but thats what space stations are for.
