can i get an approval?
Character name: zod
Age: 5 Gender: Male Race: Android Occupation: Techknowledgy specialist Role: Computer/system specialist weapons: Hand to hand combat zod prefers not to use lethal force to achieve his goals but is not dumb to the fact that deep space has its conflicts and has armed himself with several hand to hand fighting styles including the intercepting fist and the Qui lo (kung fu) nanasects and microsects Zod was built by the terran federation as the first of what would have been a series of new androids designed to help the federation acquire and adapt alien techknowledgy to current federation techknowledgy. Using nanasects (atomic sized nanites which look like insects) Zod can explore foreign computer mainframes and other information and system depositories directories and control systems. At first the nanasects merely watch a computer systems behavior then they attempt to mimic its behavior at first helping the system perform its duties then as the nanasects become more and more experienced they begin infiltrating and multipling in a key control routine eventually spreading to many computer control routines. Eventually they are all over the system and at Zods command. Zod then can issue a command to his nanasects his nanasects then provide the appropriate commands into the foreign computer system. Zod typically gathers information from the system as needed usually for zods microsects but nanasects can be used to interrupt or halt the flow of information communications or video feeds. The overall process of learning a new computers system can be lengthy but the faster the systems speed the quicker the nanasects learn to mimic and eventually control the system. Zod having access to federation systems from "birth" has allowed him to already assimilate countless computer languages and dialects making his nanasects an already powerful tool. Zods other weapon are his microsects which are designed to not only repair damage done to him or equipment but can also be used to break down critical control components in simple and complex machinerary. Wonder why the blast doors are jammed and unresponsive or why your blaster isnt firing properly or in the direction you wanted. It probably Zods gremlin like microsects which have shreded/manipulated key components in order to accomplish an overall objective. Normally microsects would be useless in techknowledgy and machinerary that was foreign to the microsects but thanks to zods nanasects ability to share information with his microsects they have become a lot more adaptive and an extremly potent tool. microsects can also be used to track crew members and maintain communication with them and are very adept at blending in with varing organic life forms. Bio: Zod was 'birthed' by federation scientists looking for a quick way to adapt foreign techknowledgy to their own. Many prototypes were created and Zod would become the eventual final version of their design. Zod was gifted with very advanced A.I.. Like most beings with A.I. his intelliegence level would develop as he assimilated knowledge. His progress though would far exceed the expectations of his creators in less than 1.5 earth years he had surpassed his combined creators knowledge. However as time wore on Zod no longer had any passion left for expanding his mind and found surprisingly to his creators a sense of pleasure causing mischief in the federations computer systems. Pranks became more and more frequent and eventually landed Zod in trouble. Eventually an order by a high member inside the federation ordered zods A.I. to be terminated and reinstalled with strict guidelines. However the federation needed time to evaluate Zods expansive A.I. and find sutiable places in which to install the needed guidelines. Zod became aware of this plan and did not waste any of this valuable time and quickly he armed himself with some modified nanites but found the limits of these tools too constricting when interacting with the many races and foreign bodies of deep space he knew he would encounter. He decided to create another nanite which could aid his microsects and make them more adaptable. His creations though crude due to his constricted time were still none the less effective. When the date of his 'execution' came Zod was ready. He wasted no time in dispatching his would be executioners with almost little effort. His movements went untraceable it was like he vanished in the federations computer tracking system and what forces that did encounter zod face to face quickly learned that though he was not designed for combat Zod did posses a healthy knowledge of hand to hand skills which combined with his ability to disable his enemies weapons was more than enough to over come them. (note: Zod was constructed to look almost human and is slightly more durabable than a normal human but no more so than an athlete.) Zods plan all along was escaping the federation and in order to do that he would need a fast ship and it just so happens that there was one in dock suppose to be fast... really fast.... 3 things i need to know 1. how do you play this game 2. where do you play 3. when do you play |

pardon me
Look ive played D&D and white wolf campaigns before both require role playing generally the latter having more but ive never played a role playing game where there is no dice rolling and is done over the internet.
I wasnt sure how the whole thing went down rules but after reading your posts in the RP forum i can sort of see how things progress. I thought i ought to submit an application and get some hands on experience and i thought at best it would be a fun even if i did muck things up a bit maybe at best. My question were general and probably not very well thought out but i thought if i was just basic with my questions i could get easier responses. Like i said im not completly new to role playing just this particular brand of forum role playing. |
While I don't want to sound like a jerk, I think I'll humor you:
Unless stated on the first post of the sign-up thread by the GM, there are no stats or use of dice. Other then that, it means it's a free form role play, where you can be big and strong, but it still doesn't mean you can punch through anything unless the GM states otherwise. No godmoding: Meaning ultimately, you can't keep dodging things you don't want to be hit by and you aren't invincible against anything, self explanatory. No powerhousing: As stated above, you can be big and tough, but it doesn't mean you can destroy anything with your bare hands. Still self explanatory. Though frankly, I point you to the rules thread around here, but I just felt like typing. Also, the sections are pretty well labeled: Role Playing is pretty much where all the actual role playing happens. Sorry if I sound like a jerk, though please read everything around before you ask questions you could already find the answers to. |
I was a first-time RPer once too. Not in recent memory, but recent enough. It's really simple; you read everyone else's post, then type up your own. You control one character's actions, as well as, so long as it doesn't get in the way of your GM and does makes sense in the story, the existence of any NPCs you like (in my experience, it is acceptable to have your character, say, "walk into a shop and ask the shopkeep 'how much for those nuts?'." But you can't, for instance, have the clerk respond with the amount; your GM does that. Similarly in battle, most/all blows are best left to the GM to resolve, though you make them. Under NO circumstance should you control a GM-created NPC, or, worse, another character. You probably knew some of that, but I know I didn't when I started up, so I thought I'd clear it up just in case. You're also responsible for describing everything your character sees. You don't have the be exhaustive (or do so at all, as I've recently done for some stupid reason...) but you may if you like, and I know I had some pretty fun descriptions in the past.
There's a thread up for the game. Don't post in it yet; you haven't been approved. But, that's where you'd play. As for when; whenever you like so long as 1) you aren't messing up the story for everyone, and 2) you aren't double-posting, which is a major no-no here in general. And, of course, post-approval. Any more questions you can PM me, I guess; I'm not the greatest expert ever, but I'll try to help if I can. Edit: RMB hit upon some of the other important basics. It's not a hard system to catch on to, at least when few/no stats are involved. |

Generally I'm use to a very lax form of typing. It has contributed to the degeneration of my written engrish skills (english misspelled on purpose). If capitalization and punctuation count then thats something I didn't know and I apologize for searing your brains with general Internet speak which requires only a real once over reread just to make sure engrish teachers will merely turn in their graves and not totally upheave themselves from their final resting place to reclaim the diction I and others have so viciously mutilated. but as far as commas I dont use those and thats no joke I have the failed term papers to prove it. Edit: red black mage you don't sound like a jerk and I appreciate your comments I found them helpful as well as Gorefiends thank you both |
If I may offer a respectful suggestion, start. Trust me, your grades will improve, your speaking may improve if you learn to time your pauses as you write things meant to be read aloud (assuming you ever do.) And, as a slight byproduct, you'll fare much better in this, and probably a few other communities.

I think it's great that you want to get into online roleplaying, but the reasons that you're turning yourself off to us are as follows:
1- In the two posts you have made here, you have not once used a comma or an apostrophe. 2- You sometimes capitalize "I" and sometimes don't, that leads me to believe that either you don't proofread your posts or for some reason you just don't care. 3- Your character is overpowered, wayyyyy overpowered. An android that knows Kung Fu, can adapt to any technology and can control any kind of computer system? I don't think so. If you read the storyline, we're going for more of a realistic roleplay. People that have cybernetic parts need to have them maintained. Your character is one giant cybernetic part, and it would seem like you would spend most of the game being in disrepair or needing parts. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to point out some flaws that you might want to fix before you make a bio for another rp. If you want to get the general idea of how rps are run here, might I suggest you read a couple of the roleplays that are going on right now, or go into the "closed roleplay" section of the forums and read some of the older roleplays. Feel free to pm me or im me if you have any other questions. |
GAH I go away for one hour and... so much to read...
ok after Hawk I think we have enough. Sorry but I am officially closing sign-ups until a current player dons the red shirt PS if you dont get what the red shirt thing is about, then you dont deserve to know |

Only the moderators are allowed to do that. Consider yourself warned. -- Gamenut: Seriously, learn grammar. You aren't going to like it here if you don't learn grammar, and most people aren't going to want to play with you. Though, I'll be honest. I would. I would just because every time I read techknowledgey I giggle. |
Well what I think my real problem is my passive nature to just not include them in my writing. Especially in my first drafts on term papers, which did as I said fail, but which I was allowed to rewrite for an acceptable grade typically B's and a couple A's (In case your really worried about my grades)
As I said I am use to very lax internet typing and I am coming off of playing mmo's which are highly destructive to written engrish skills. Unfair as it maybe to subject you and the others to my currently engrish skills I think it could be, if nothing else, beneficial practicing proper written engrish. Proper use of commas: I like to run, swim, and practice engrish. Do you like to run, swim, or practice engrish? Spot likes to run, but spot gets tired after five minutes. Spot, the engrish basset hound, gets bathed every Sunday. I know theres probably more uses I just can't think of any right now edit: yar techknowlogy superior to technology.....its the W I'm sure of it double edit: I'm gonna go over to the closed RP section and read up on more of the stuff they have over there I can get a better grasp on the whole thing. |
