The HD DVD player was only an extraneous add-on for the 360 anyway. Its an extra thing you can buy, it doesn't come with the system (Well, it might with some packages or something.)

Or do you mean they will have a blu ray attachment for the 360, like they had for HD DVD? Yes, I can easily see that happening.

Yeah, it was just a matter of time. I think at this point every studio is now in the midst of switching to Blue Ray (although Paramount is dragging their heels on Transformers), so it was just a matter of time. I had heard the rumor that Microsoft had covered its bets, and had a Blue Ray player developed (or in development) long before the format wars were over.

Of course, unless this thing is going to work like the Sega CD, I don't see too much of a point. Except to keep the clutter down around the TV.

I think the main problem with the Sega CD was not the concept more the timing and the lack of game support.
IT was an add-on to a dying system and there wasn't many good games on it but the idea that much bigger games could be played using the add-on was in itself sound.

hd-dvd was never for games, blury was always for games (also) it was a good thing that bluray won because Bluray discs were always better for games than normal DVD's. te thing is that everybody who bougth the hd-dvd addon for the 360 got screwed. if microsoft did an addon for the bluray they would only drive the point furter home. And making an Bluray addon for movies is silly, since the ps3 does that nativilly. And doing it for games would simply be shooting itself in the head for microsoft

This was questioned and talked about for a while now, especially since the format war ended. I'm not surprised. Especially not from Microsoft. If they could get away with it, they'd probably combine their XBox products with virtual reality goggles and a remote just to rip off some good ideas, regardless of how misguided and problematic two of those three were in execution (I'll let you guess which two). With better technology and the condition that they didn't get their asses sued straight out from under them, they'd probably corner the entire market for years to come. 'Cause they're out to make money, and have a habit of stepping on toes to steal market space from competitors with superior products.

Microsoft would probably stubbornly withstand continuous lawsuits, just for the sake of getting their foot in the door.

The only thing I really worry about now is cleaning; at the game store I work at, we've tried to use our professional-disk-cleaner-bot-9000 on a PS3 game, but it came out worse than before. So, that makes me think that bluray needs something more special; perhaps because it's more touchy than most other disks?

PurpleMage 05-06-2008 11:20 PM

Well at the Gamestop I work at, we have heard absolute horror stories about the disc cleaners. So if your talking about what I think you are that thing is satan in a machine.

Well the data is much more compact on a blueray disk so you can't clean it like you would another kind of dvd.
Unless the cleaner was designed for a blueray disc?
