THEY'RE MESSING WITH OUR BEER!

.....WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Its because of the biofuel junk. Farmers are looking at making more money to produce corn, so they're dropping the malt, barley and hops.

But.... but.....

*lip wibble*

Actually, corn ethanol has only a 1 to 1.3 energy output ratio. Gas is 1 to 5. Sugarcane, however, is 1 to 6. As in sugarcane ethanol gives out six times the energy when used as it takes to produce it. Brazil, I hear, uses sugarcane biofuel. However, the US has a 57 cent tariff on it, making it more expensive than it needs to be and opening up the market to nothing but good old corn, which gains nearly as much per pound in subsidies as sugarcane has in tariffs because of legislation passed in the 70s that continues to bring money into the Midwest.

Sorry. There was an article in the local news magazine.

Or we could just get our sugar from Cuba like we did in the old days.

Doesn't really matter, the farmers are planting more non-beer crops, which is bad.

Cid Highwind 05-07-2008 03:52 PM

Yeah, seriously, a prize idea-- Eat OR have an economy.

Seil 05-07-2008 11:22 PM

Why don't we go after an alternate fuel source? Y'know, one that doesn't destroy the economy?
