Let's Talk About Comedians

My list is running dry, and I'm looking for new ones. However, after witnessing a few comedian threads on NPF, and I just want to say:

DO NOT TALK ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT YOU THINK DANE COOK STEALS FROM OTHER COMEDIANS. This has been argued into the ground. If you would like to argue about this, do it in another thread.

Brian Regan
One of the funniest clean comics I've heard. He's good, and does observational humor rather than anything else.

Chris Rock
Who doesn't know Chris Rock. I like him. Does a lot of racial jokes, and some current event humor.

Dave Chapelle
This guy is pretty fun. I particularly enjoy bits and pieces of his act.

Christopher Titus
My favorite - his father was an alcoholic, his mother was a manic-depressive schizophrenic who spent a lot of time in a mental institution, and he turns a lot of his childhood into his comedy.

George Carlin
This man spouts universal truths. "Words are not bad. It is the intent of the person using the words that make them bad." He's fantastic.

These are probably all on YouTube.

I got to see Lewis Black live last month for my birthday.
Oh man it was great seeing his rage and finger-pointing live.

Pablo Francisco had a Comedy Central Presents wherein I first was exposed to him that I laughed a lot when watching -- and I don't often laugh out loud just watching things (though this is less true when with groups of people). I even know the jokes now and still enjoy it a lot. Some of his other stuff is pretty good, but he's got a central core of bits that are the same throughout the three/four different shows I know of.

If I am home, I enjoy Friday Night Stand Up on Comedy Central, as it exposes me to various comedians. Sure, many of them suck, but there have been some great shows from folks I've not heard of before.

Dane Cook's alright.

Too bad he steals all his material.

Truce 05-06-2008 03:08 AM

Krylo would have been funny, if he had been the first reply.

Comedy's all about timing, after all.

Dane cook steals his material, and it's just a shame that he can't use what he steals worth a crap. You'd think stealing funny material would make you funny. But really, he sucks.

Dennis Leary's "No Cure For Cancer" was much better when Bill Hicks did it.

Jim Gaffigan can have my comedy babies.

Patton Oswalt is surprisingly hilarious.

I still want to see Bob Saget's act.

Stephen Lynch cracks me up.

If I Were Gay and Halloween... and Beelz are pretty awesome.

John Pinette. I only just remembered his name last night and I'm glad I did. A lot of his stuff revolves around food and eating (he's a big guy, so it's to be expected) and I recall, one night while watching one of his acts, he had me in stitches. He's just that good.

Let's see then.

Lee Evans

Generally funny guy, very energetic on-stage, loud, has some hilariously witty one-liners.

"I love it when you're driving with your wife next to ya, and you're lost and she goes, and here I quote every other woman in the world:

Wife: Oh, let's just go home already!
Lee Evans: Go home?
WE'RE FUCKING LOST!"

I like Dane Cook, despite all the "Dane Cook steals" things.

George Carlin & Bill Hicks

Awesome comedians, a lot of truth in what they say, hilarious way of conveying their ideas and points of views to the audience. On one side you have the grumpy old George Carlin (from "Life is worth losing"), and on the other side you have the active, vocal Bill Hicks.

Mitch Hedburg

Seen only one 30 minute special of his. His material per se isn't amazingly hilarious, but the way he looks, talks and acts, as if he's high all the time, just gives off a hilarious effect. Plus, all the random humor he puts in.

Quote: "I like cheese, but only when there's 4 others present!"

Tom Green

Not really a comedian, I just find his bum song hilarious, and a few of his videos.

Bill Bailey

Very funny british comedian, excentric, quirky, witty, and with good musical skills to boot! His acts are peppered with random songs on various instruments that just take the piss out of everyday aspects (best one was a very good impersonation of Portishead playing UK's national anthem).

From what I hear about ol' Mitch that wasn't acting. Absolutely excellent material though.

Seconding George Carlin, Lewis Black and Bill Hicks, too. Eddie Izzard's also pretty good from what I've seen on youtube.

Louis CK, Brian Regan, Demetri Martin, Mike Birbiglia, Patton Oswalt, and Mitch Hedburg are my favorite comedians.

Demetri Martin and Mitch Hedburg are one liners, Louis CK and Mike Birbiglia tell a lot of stories, Brian Regan is just funny, and Patton Oswalt is just out-of-his-mind. But it's hilarious.
