Cosplay Ideas
So, I am trying to come up with ideas for who to cosplay as this year. This will be my first official time cosplaying! Sadly, it looks like the only convention I'll be able to go to this year is in October... Anyways, do you guys have any ideas for who I should dress as? Right now I'm thinking either Kamina or Simon from TTGL, although if I could find a way to put together a good enough costume I might go as Shinji from Evangelion in his plug suit... Any ideas are welcome!

If you are going alone, solo characters works best.. also if it is your first time, ANY costume that is confortable and easy is better. So you can get used to it and dont fell left out.
If you have a group, i suggest group-cosplay. Much more fun. i did it once. A group of 8 People dressed as the various jobs of Final Fantasy Tactics ( i was a Summoner, my Girfriend was Dancer, and we had a Monk, Time Mage, Squire, Ninja, Mime and a Bard) really great |
Shinji in Asuka's plugsuit! You're bound to turn a few heads that way.
That said, I agree with Bellsouth. Costumes are best if you go as a group theme. Barring that, though, I recommend not picking anybody popular - seeing too many people in the same costume becomes boring after a while. |
Maybe I can go as Itoshiki Nozomu... He's cool and all those people who wait for shows to come to the states can think it's a bad Kenshin cosplay and feel bad for me!

If you're familiar with the show, go as a haibane. Easy costume, just make some wings with cardboard and a bag of feathers from a craft store and a hot glue gun, and a halo/headband thing, and wear some old clothes. Bam you're a haibane.
Most of the plugsuits I've seen were pretty bad, to be honest, and there have been a million Shinjis at every con ever. Not as many as the Narutos and Kakashis, but still. Quote:

Good luck with that. Although this is coming from someone who's cosplays are Edward (FMA) and Link, so I really don't see the problem in cosplaying a popular character. :D Other tips for cosplaying: Make sure to budget yourself accordingly. If you're sewing your own costume, look out for good sales on fabric (which is why it's good to start early, so you can swoop in and get the fabric for cheap). For props, foam and wood can go a long way if you know how to use it. For example, if you need a weapon, wood can be a good cheap material to make it out of (even if it's a steel weapon, like a sword). Go to you local home depot or wal mart (or some other store like that) and get some shiny metallic spraypaint. It makes the wood surprisingly shiny and metalic looking. If you're not building your own costume and are just planning on buying some clothes and putting it together to make one, a store like goodwill is great for this, I hear. For hair, I always find that it's better to use your own hair, unless you have the money/skill to buy/make those really fancy wigs. If you're doing a character with crazy anime-esque hair, look in stores like Hot Topic for hair coloring, and any fashion store for hair cement. You can do wonders with it (even stick straight up like a broom, or straight back) Anyway, have a blast making your costume. It sometimes is the best part of the whole process. |
Well, if you're a girl, I suppose you could be Aigis from Persona 3.
If you're a man, you could still be Aigis...but it would be weird. Most video games (excluding ones like Final Fantasy) are safe enough bets. |
If my hair was gonna be longer around convention time, I'd love to go as Alucard, but it won't be long enough for me to feel good about it, so that's why I'm thinking Kamina or Simon. Just some blue hair dye and I should be good hairwise. As for the Jacket, I can have my grandma help with that one, plus, after the convention, I'll still have a badass jacket thing I can wear in public. I just need a way to make those awesome glasses.

My wife is making a pretty strong case for us cosplaying at Sakura-con next year. We went to Sakura-con for our honeymoon and I have to say it looks like fun.
I'm still new to anime, so I'm trying to convince her to let me go as Squall or Zack or something. I dunno, maybe someone a little more obscure would be fun too, but I do love Final Fantasy... |
