Since FFTA-2 is coming out...
I've decided to get full completion in the first game. I've beaten it over 4 times but have never actually beaten every single mission and gotten Judge Cid in my party. I decided I'll try and do that before I get FFTA-2.
Problem is, a lot of things in the game can make it impossible to get every quest. If you don't do just the right ones at the right time, it will eventually become impossible. Does anyone know of a guide that shows what order to do the missions in to beat every mission in the game? The stuff I've found at gamefaqs only shows the order of the storyline missions, while I'm looking to beat every single freaking one of them. |
Oh man, I remember when I beat every mission. It takes a while. As far as I know, you can beat the missions in any order, and they will always appear. The issue that I ran into was I got rid of an item that is needed for one of the missions and that you only get one of (maybe 2, but they're both used for mission), it was the Choco Gratin if I remember right. What I ended up doing was using my other game file to get far enough in the game to get it, then used my friends copy of the game to send it to them, then transfer it back to my good file.
I would just recommend doing all the missions you can before doing the story ones. I also know that if you leave the clan borzoi missions for long enough, they are really annoying to get to come back, but it is doable. Also make sure that you don't let Montblanc die in a jagd. There is one mission late in the game you need him for. Also make sure that you get all the secret and semi-secret characters. Littlevili and Quin can be tough to get, but it's worth it. Once you beat the numbered missions, there are even more missions: the judge missions. They consist of killing judges, which is always fun, and you have Cid with you. Beating these gets you the real ending. |

FFTA was alright, but I wish they'd do a real sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics, not another Tactics Advance. Yes, this is going to be another topic where we all bitch about the lack of a "real" sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics. I'm hijacking it for that purpose!
Okay, fine, we'll talk about FFTA. I just beat the game and put it away, I was tired of it at that point since I had about 108 hours of gameplay into it and could've beaten the regular storyline at like 50 hours or less. Seriously, there's only like 30 required missions in that game, what's up with that? Plus the way you learned skills made it so you basically just had to stick with a class 'til you mastered it, which took the whole game because you keep getting new items. I basically just had each character master two classes and that was it, except for some abilities useful to every class (such as the thief's Counter). Throw in the races having different classes to complicate things. I hope the sequel adjusts something. |

I completely forgot about the law system in that game though. I just started playing it again today, and I didn't check the laws, next thing I know Marche gets a red card for using holy. |
Actually, FFTA2 is supposed to be better on that front because you'll no longer be penalized for breaking the laws, you'll just be rewarded for keeping them. That's a way better system. Way to go with the positive reinforcement, Squarenix!
So Marche isn't a jerk in the real ending, eh. THAT might be worth playing to see. Jerk being defined as raining on everybody's awesome parade and making them go back to their cruddy, non-magical lives. "Life's a bitch and then you die, Mewt, how dare you defy the universe?!" What's funny is they actually had a sort of deep moral question that is actually gray and could have made for loads of drama, dialogue, existentialist discussion. But decided they'd be better off just pretending the answer was black and white and that it's completely cut and dried what is the right thing to do, because they didn't want to come up with more plot than could be handled in 30 story missions. I mean, seriously, what game needs more than 30 story missions? Please. Squarenix for some reason thinks they can't have anything even mildly controversial on a Nintendo system or something. |
Marche for Villain of the Year. Main reason I enjoyed FFTA.
And just don't throw any of those quest items away, that's how I ended up completing them all. |
Vault of Thrones, there is one issue with what you were saying.
The game can only track 64 quests at any one time. If you do things the wrong way, you will find yourself with Expert Missions unlocked and every other quest still in que. Im fairly certain there is a system that makes some quests take priority over others, so what I end up with is 64 repeatable quests I've already beaten being the only ones availible. Also, marche is not a jerk at all in FFTA. In fact, he is a very, VERY generic do-goodie character. He is so 1 dimensional it makes me want to gouge out my eyes. So in that, I guess you could say that he is a jerk because he is so hopelessly not evil in any way at all that it makes you hate him. The other characters are all somewhat well designed though. |

Jerk doesn't necessarily mean evil. Jerk means fucking up with everyone else's dreams and happiness. Marche fills the bill. And you still haven't explained why you haven't played the original Tactics. |

I am actually playing FFT right now! I forgot how the special classes were either horribly unbalanced (Cid, Beowulf) or useless (Rafa, Malak). I am actually now using TG Cid at all because of this. |
