Finally

Name: Paul O'Brian
Sex: Male
Age: 28
Occupation: Drifter
College Degrees: none
Birthplace: Ireland
Background: Paul is an Irish immigrant who happened to have bad luck in finding jobs. He could never find a job and was forced to be constantly looking for one. When Paul went out of New York, he turned into more of a drifter, going around the U.S., looking at the different cities and such, but constantly searching for a job. His long search is finally over when he sees something in a newspaper about an investigation service wanting people for work.

Since the first mission, everyone seems to drop all other skills just to get dodging...

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-29-2004 06:48 PM

Meh. Whatever. I grabbed some combat skills despite my previous 'not going to use them anyways' statement.

You do know that since everyone is going Combat Whore now, I am going to make a mission with monsters you can't fight normally and who can nullify your L33T Dodging SKILLZORZ...

But your char is in Lazy. I think everyone has checked back in somehow now...

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-29-2004 06:57 PM

*shrugs* Don't fear, Zero. Even though Phillip has a gun, he's smart enough to know when he needs it.

I'm not going to go all gun crazy. That would be silly.

Silly silly silly.

lazy man 03-29-2004 07:00 PM

Can I tweak my guy alittle bit?

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 07:02 PM

I don't like lazy's character... Maybe it's because he has no original qualities that some one else in the group isn't already better at, by a lot (Besides Gaelic, whatever that is)

lazy man 03-29-2004 07:03 PM

And that is why I was asking for the tweak. And Gaelic is the Irish language.

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-29-2004 07:04 PM

Oh well, certainly we should all create our characters to appease only you, IHMN.

It's not like we're just having fun here or anything ...

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 07:06 PM

Of course.

Quote:

I can see him having more fun with a character that couldn't be pushed aside by another character while doing a certain task...

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 07:07 PM

IHMN, Gaelic is the original Irish or Scottish language, can't remember which. Read a book one day, it will do you a world of good...

And other then being a Combat Whore, and having Fast Talk (Which are skills others have, except currently for your insane dodge, which krylo will replicate if he ever dies...), you have no original skills either.

Lazy, depends on what you want to change.

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 07:08 PM

My guy is the insane dodger (99%), and also one of the three resident fast talkers (krylo, Celes, and myself).

lazy man 03-29-2004 07:08 PM

Just want to take some stuff out of dodge and put them into other stuff.

Krylo 03-29-2004 07:10 PM

Quote:

(Which are skills others have, except currently for your insane dodge, which krylo will replicate if he ever dies...)
Even if I don't die, dodge = survival (at least more than most skills). Frankie says, "Survival is good kiddies!" ergo, Frankie practices dodge inbetween every mission.

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 07:12 PM

Does Frankie have any distinguishing features? All I can remember about him is being one of the top fast talkers, but besides that I can't seem to remember anything else, and now it seems he's mostly going to practice just dodging instead of his other skills...

At least my guy is also a lock smith (Sorta) and an infiltrator (Disguise+fast talk and a little sneak). Also a future mage.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 07:12 PM

krylo hit it on the head. You said yourself two others with fast talk better then you, so other then your Dodge, which is a totally self-serving skill, you have no real skills for the group.

And I don't see why not. Just post the changed stats in a new post when you do it, but you don't need to repost your whole sign-up.

EDIT: Yet, true, forgot about your being an eligable mage.

Krylo 03-29-2004 07:19 PM

Here's Frankie:

Name: Frankie McCulloch
Sex: Male
Age: 22
Occupation: Drifter
College Degrees: None
Birthplace: Park Falls, Wisconsin, USA
Background:
.........Frankie was born into a lower middle-class in a small town in Wisconsin, that ran the local super-market. His family was relatively small for the time, consisting of only himself, his one sister, and his two parents, and, his sister being a woman, his family mostly relied on him and his intelligence--which was obvious his entire life, as he was reading novels in second grade--to go to college bring them into upper-class.
.........Frankie just didn't care about his schooling, however. There wasn't a single job in the world that he thought would excite him enough to do it all his life. Even the most challenging careers in science were either preceeded by too much 'busy work', weren't difficult enough, and/or he simply lacked the drive to do them. Always at least two of those reason, and usually all three. As a result he spent his teenage years chasing skirts, spending time at speakeasies (although rarely actually drinking), and basically avoiding any work or responsibility.
.........Frankie did manage to graduate from highschool, being the first in his family to do so, which gave his parents hope that maybe he wouldn't waste his entire life. That hope was quickly crushed, however, as Frankie picked up a backpack of his favorite books, some food, some drink and simply left with no goal in mind, other than to 'find himself'.
.........On the road Frankie learned many skills were necessary to survive, but, luckily, his intellect served him just as well learning 'street smarts' as it had learning 'book smarts', and, although no adonis, he was somewhat attractive, which made fast talking his way out of situations easier. In fact, the art of the silver tongue was the main thing that Frankie learned, using it for all manners of things: picking up women, avoiding fights, getting jobs, and scamming people out of their hard earned money. However, sometimes his scams came back to bite him in the ass, and, although he could normally talk his way out of trouble, he was forced to learn how to defend himself with a weapon. A gun to be exact... he wasn't strong enough to fight off attackers with his hands, and so he bought a pistol and began carrying it on the inside of his wool coat.

He is also an eligible mage, and, now that Sith is gone... the only chemist/physist and he knows some biology, first aid (although not as good as others), and he's one of the library users. Basically he's an all arounder. He's also able to hide and sneak decently... compared to most of our group.

Edit: I was also second to sign up after Demon With A Glass Hand... so if anyone has the same skills as me, only few points better, *coughfasttalkdavidcough* they're the useless ones... not me. Punk.

Dante 03-29-2004 07:21 PM

Damn, somebody decides to smack down combat wombatness and here I am, the man with the machine gun.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 07:23 PM

Gotta face facts, Call is a RP that focuses on out-thinking your enemies and figuring out weaknesses, not hurling massive amounts of lead, although there will be times when hurling lead will work.

Ah well. I shall prove that there is a place for combat wombats in an intellectual RPG... primarily by dragging people out of harm's way.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 07:33 PM

Lazy: Updated.

Dante: Good point, in a combat situation, there will need to be people to drag of the wounded if the monsters aren't beaten yet.

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 07:38 PM

Oh, just rememebered some things about my character.

What do you have for Dave's Know and Idea rolls? Before when I changed his INT and EDU scores, I forgot to change his rolls, so if you just copy and pasted without checking his Know roll and Idea rolls will be wrong.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 07:40 PM

Updated: Idea now reads 40%, and Know now reads 45%.

lazy man 03-29-2004 07:46 PM

You can do a overview now FZ. I don't feel like thinking much anymore.

Perhaps... as oppsoed to merely smacking fools down, Tommy could be a tactical leader of sorts. "Get the hell away from those windows!" or "Don't let them surround you!" might be expected.

Of course, I'm not saying his experience is perfect. He's only had to deal with mortals thus far. Teufelhunds and Nosferatu are waaaay out of his league. Still, he has common sense...

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 07:51 PM

I guess it is now an unofficial tradition I do one of these...

Ahem, overall, generally average to above average stats all around. Skills seem mainly focused on Investigations and not Research. Highest skill is pistols at 70% total. Has Gaelic, which may or may not be useful. Decent dodge, moderatly high Luck. Overall, average.

Don't know how many situations will need tactical leaders, but you can give it a try.

New thread will be up soon, so RPers, start your engines!

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 08:03 PM

Can I use a fake name at first for Dave (It won't be Jack Mehoff, I just couldn't think of anything before)?

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 08:12 PM

I don't know... I guess, sure.

Truce 03-29-2004 08:14 PM

Quick question, are there any spells to be memorized that'll be useful in Game Time Combat/Investigations?

Ahem. Time to go see if the new RP's up.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 08:16 PM

It is, and there are. There are a few instant/quick cast spells you can use. It will just take time to learn them, and the right books.

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 08:35 PM

Are us new guys already hired and living in the house, just unaware of all mytho stuff?

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 08:40 PM

Yes, I assumed so. Dante however is just arriving... But that works too.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 08:54 PM

You do know IHMN that as soon as they find you stealing, your fired. You just can't avoid being a kleptomaniac in an RP cna you?

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 08:55 PM

I'm a thief. Thieves steal things.

I guess I just won't get found out then. Or I can stop...

Edit - Eh, I just deleted the entire post. Even though Dave loves stealing, he is trying to lay low for a while, so stealing may be a bad idea...

J Man 03-29-2004 10:10 PM

Um, FZ, what did you mean?

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 10:12 PM

Demon, in the first mission, his first response (You did it too actually), was to run straight to the house and do no prior research. This led to the lot of you almost getting mauled by the Lurker. You are now running off again, with no prior research, to see what is up...

J Man 03-29-2004 10:16 PM

well, we have nothing really to research, just ask the old guy. Besides, Jim was kinda like "Eh, whatever, he was probably crazy." and he just decided to go on in, see what made him crazy, go back out, tell everyone and move on with his life.

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 10:51 PM

I suggest some fast talking from Clara to help rectify the situation.

And it's hard to come up with a reason as to why some one would stay with this group...

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 10:56 PM

Now with Neil blabbing about horrible deaths it is hard... Just hope that Celes' and Ecurt's chars convince your character that Neil is a bit crazy...

EDIT: And krylo joined in.

Krylo 03-29-2004 10:58 PM

Yes... just about everyone all at once decided that Neil is an idiot.

Dante 03-29-2004 11:07 PM

Time for an Irish drinking song!

Now everybody's died, so until our tears are cried,
we'll drink and drink and drink and drink and then we'll drink some more.
We'll dance and sing and fight until the early mornin' light,
then we'll throw up, pass out, wake up and then go drinkin' once again.

Darth SS 03-29-2004 11:11 PM

Hooray for the Irish. That crazy culture. I'm proud to have descended from them...

*Has a lepperchaun outfit on*

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 11:14 PM

"Now can't we all just settle this over a pint?"

I've got Irish blood in me somewhere...

Now I think SS' blunder, mixed with the fact that right now he is apparently wearing a leperchaun suit, may lead some to believe he failed a sanity check... And they are probably right...

lazy man 03-29-2004 11:17 PM

Ireland kicks ass. Why do you think my new guy's Irish.......other than the fact that I don't feel like thinking and that was one of the first things that came to mind.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 11:19 PM

Ohh, and Ecurt goes for the topic dodge. Can he pull it off?

Truce 03-29-2004 11:24 PM

*Crosses Fingers* Damn it...I should have raised my Fast Talk skills over the break.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 11:25 PM

Wait, are you all waiting for rolls? I thought you were just basing it on if your character would believe it or not...

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 11:25 PM

Dante was viewing/replying, so I'm letting him go first.

Edit - ANd he is now done.

Dante 03-29-2004 11:29 PM

Thanks. I suppose Ecurt shouldn't have mentioned "remember that night". Since PC vs PC contests tend to be resolved by their respective players, that one tipped the balance.

Of course, Ecurt might have done it as a hook to draw Tommy in.

In which case another thanks would be warranted.

Krylo 03-29-2004 11:30 PM

...Frankie is going for the "I don't like them... let's see if they get eaten. If they don't they'll already know about the mythos and we can come clean" approach.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 11:32 PM

krylo, I like your approach...

CelesJessa 03-29-2004 11:33 PM

Hm... Now what should Clara say to Dave... hmm... fast talking skill, I need you! It has to be believable..... What was our original story we told the police?

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 11:33 PM

Oh yeah, it's a greath approach... "Go die, then come back as a zombie and bite me. I like it rough."

Edit - And Dave is a fast talker as well... Dun dun dunnnnnnn!

Squishy Cheeks 03-29-2004 11:36 PM

I leave for 4 hours and now I have to read 6 pages? What the crap!!!

CelesJessa 03-29-2004 11:40 PM

You guys might want to go along with ecurt or something... I have to go to bed soon, so I probably won't be able to think up a good enough story in a little time, to tell you guys.

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 11:41 PM

Hah, no zombies this time IHMN, if you die your toast until next mission!

Heh heh heh, nice comeback however...

Dante 03-29-2004 11:46 PM

Whoops, I may have screwed up the story a little here...

Tommy's suspicious, he thinks it's a gangland reprisal. Of course, if someone were to make a fast talk check, he might be convinced to go to the house... but not without his "special equipment"...

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 11:48 PM

Ironically Celes failed hers, but Ecurt passed his. Your convinced sparky.

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 11:49 PM

Celes hasn't tried to do anything...

And did the fast talk work on my guy as well (Though he really wasn't part of that conversation)?

Dante 03-29-2004 11:49 PM

I see. Now I'll have to go amend my post...

Forever Zero 03-29-2004 11:50 PM

I'll do another check, both for krylo's attempts, and for attempts against IHMN.

...

Ecurt fails on IHMN, but krylo passes. Now you both have been convinced.

IHateMakingNames 03-29-2004 11:51 PM

Celes is posting, so might as well hear her story...

Dante 03-29-2004 11:54 PM

Gah. Damn nation. FIne fine, i delete first, then hear her out.

CelesJessa 03-30-2004 12:05 AM

Whew.... I REALLY hope that will work... man... It's kinda hard pulling crap about what happened out of nowhere. ^^;;; heh.

IHateMakingNames 03-30-2004 12:06 AM

And then I decided to not believe any of it and just go along with the search (Because krylo's roll worked on me, and I can't think of a reason as to why Dave would stay with this group if he believed that story).

CelesJessa 03-30-2004 12:08 AM

Bah. All of my hard writing and bluffing... all for nothing.... man. I'm going to bed. soon It's not spring break anymore.

EDIT: yaay Dante's character believed her... but now I feel bad because she lied... oh well... it's just am RP character. ^^

Forever Zero 03-30-2004 12:10 AM

Alright, I'm wrapping up for the night. The rest of you can work out your plans, and tomarrow I will execute them.

Dante 03-30-2004 12:11 AM

I have to go for a haircut. Hopefully you'll all be around when I get back.

TheSpiritOfVengance 03-30-2004 12:48 AM

Here I think I have solved some problems... Although it will probably involve the good doctor going insane or a fate worse then death but I am use to this...

Tor 03-30-2004 02:08 AM

Wont we all be insane?

Squishy Cheeks 03-30-2004 07:51 AM

I'm just going to wait till the next chapter.

Forever Zero 03-30-2004 06:24 PM

Alright, final update of all the chars.

Celes: Dodge +5%

J Man: Psychoanalysis +5%

Dr DR: Dodge +5%
Disguise +5%

Tor: Dodge +5%

I'll wait until there is a concrete plan of who is and isn't going to the house, and who is and isn't investigating. Remember, he is just a bumbling Landlord, he may not have researched the houses past...

lazy man 03-30-2004 06:50 PM

Paul will be investigating the people who had previously lived there to see exactly what had happened when they were there. That is, if he can get any answers out of them.

Squishy Cheeks 03-30-2004 07:07 PM

Ok I'm in. I'm going to be really busy so please keep that in mind.

Forever Zero 03-30-2004 07:16 PM

No problem.

StormRider 03-30-2004 07:25 PM

So we can join between chapters? I kind of skimmed through the RP, and it looks interesting.

Forever Zero 03-30-2004 07:26 PM

Nope, sorry, we have 14 people. This RP is maxed out. Only those that already signed up and died are recreating characters.

StormRider 03-30-2004 07:29 PM

Ah, damn. Oh well, I guess I'll just wait for the next time around then.

Forever Zero 03-30-2004 07:33 PM

If a couple people drop out, then I'll PM you and allow you in at the start of a new chapter, but as it is there are already too many people for me to easily keep track of.
