Luxuries or Old-School?

The other day I was searching through my old N64 games, and I found my copy of Super Smash Brothers. I started to play, and soon realized how hard it was. Super Smash Brothers Melee adds so many luxuries to the characters and levels, you get soft after a while.

So I just decided to make this thread to see which game you guys preferred, the original or the new one, and why.

I liked the old one better personally. Sure there's all those new characters but I don't need them. I just need Luigi, his jump of doom, and my opponent at over 100%... :D

Original, but not because it's harder and maintains my skills.

Fact is that I hate modern games with all the infinite options and buttons and crap.
Basically, once a game, especially a fighting game like SSB, gets real complicated with characters and items and falling things and moving screens and, well, just so much stuff, my gaming prowess can't compete.

If it's hard on everyone, I have a much better chance than if it's easy on everyone. That's always been my luck.

Go Old School!

Amen...

I'd say I enjoy Melee more BECAUSE of the options and because there are far more pssibilities as far as fighting goes, and many different strategies because there is more character variation. While I realize that there isn't much difference between say, Captain Falcon and Ganondorf, it might be enough to cause a difference in the battle and really, there are more different types of characters. A character like Game and Watch would've been very interesting, he's the pure opportunist rather than the more active characters in the original.

I liked the original better then melee. There is more time in with the attacks in the original it felt like.
Also characters didn't have attacks that shielded them from attacks and have range. Marth and Roy both have a disgusting attack that covers about 90 degrees and has great range.
I also don't like the mid air dodge thing.

well

i like melee, but I just view it as an imporvement over the last one. Kind of like how I prefer MK:DD over Mario Kart 64... although MK64 did have some awseome levels they should have recreated for the GC.

I like melee a lot more. the original was Way too easy, all except very hard. the only problem i had was that kirby now sucks. He was IVINCIBLE in the original. I could take on three level nine characters on a team and beat it with relative ease. Now, kirby's too slow, too weak, and gets knocked away with a swish of a hand. Other than that, melee wins hands down, with all the mini things to do and all the unique aspects. not to mention everyone is basically evened out.

I don't care I like them both... possibly because they both have Ness, and I really like the game earthbound, or maybe it's because they were both good games.

I thinky oo many people are jumping the bandwagon. Yes, 'oh the classics are so much better,' but there is nothing about Super Smash Brothers Melee, essentially, that is bad. There is only good--it did not ruin the gameplay, in fact, it enhanced it by far. Yes you can say, "the old one was so much better," but I can't really have fun on the old one anymore. There's only about 10 levels. There are more characters in Melee, and the different modes in melee offer some cool variety, especially challenge and adventure. Recently, my friends and I were working on getting every bonus and trophy, and it was fun just sitting around, completing these little challenges. Plus, it looks way better.

I can honestly say there is nothing that didn't improve in Melee.
