Guitar Hero 4: "Sorry about GH3 everyone."

So, wow, yeah I know it's just going to be a Rock Band knockoff, but they're making this one incredibly sexy knockoff. I got a free issue of Game Informer cause I got a Gamestop card and there's some amazing things they're doing.

-Unique Drumset design, including quieter pads, twin cymbals, three drums, and one kick. Star Power activates by clashing both cymbals.
-Indulgent rock drum-solos when you're playing drum careers.
-Boss Battles are going to be 'fixed' to be made less awful.
-A new, unnamed feature they're getting patented for the regular guitar.
-Something new being added to Bass to make it suck less.
-Custom Song Creator and Video Upload to Activision web servers.
-Beyond creating your own characters, you can now create album covers and band art. Original characters return, including Pandora, thank fucking christ.
-Confirmed presence of Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park, and Sublime.
-A promise of more songs than every other Guitar Hero game (Meaning above 80, hopefully.)

So, yeah, unless Rock Band II promises to do these things and a fuckload more, it looks like Guitar Hero isn't dead after all.

I like how they've embraced custom-song creation instead of trying to sidestep people hacking the game and creating modded Guitar Hero games to play custom songs on. It's like instead of employing ways to pirate, they've just embraced the fact that it's just going to happen. Dibs on The Black Mages' JENOVA!

I read about this on IGN, and since I already like GH3, I guess I'm excited for GH4. I don't really consider it a knockoff, unless you consider every repetition of any feature in a game ever a knockoff, in which case every game in my cabinet is a conglomerate of different knockoffs, so yeah.

As a side note, god damn it, I'm still only on Hard difficulty in GH3, I don't even have the time or fingers to start on a new one.

The guitar hero series had some good times, they most likely made this only in response to the rockband game, but Im sure lots of people would have kept playing it even if it had been replaced.

Its like the halo thing all over again, they come out with a new version and people are still playing the first one.

Everyone loves games like guitar hero, the GH4 will just make that more true.

they really should make a spinoff series... y'know.

im pretty sure there are a lot of gamers right out there who would like to have a simplier, cheaper game ... guitar hero it's supposed to be about guitars... if they wnat another party-band game they should do a spinoff...

What was so bad about 3 anyways?

I think it was the fact that it lost it's appeal, because it wasn't made by the same group anymore. Also, I think it was partly because of the fact that it just started to become more crazy guitar solos more than anything else. "Through Fire and Flames" is the best example.

It just didn't feel the same from 2 to 3. Don't quote me though.

I've said this before, and I'm saying it again.
I can't find the original post or else I'd have quoted that.

I don't care WHO delivers me a band-simulator, either Rock Band or Guitar Hero 4, as long as they DELIVER.
If they skip Europe again (not to mention Australia which still doesn't know SHIT about a release date for RB last I checked) I WILL be pissed.

3 is too difficult and, yes, too caught up in the "let's give the players INSANE SOLOS" mindset. I did like that Easy was made playable for beginners and at the same time interesting for veterans, something that Rocks the 80s utterly failed to do. The song choice is pretty top notch too; okay, I guess the bonus tracks could stand to be chosen with a little more variety in mind but that's a general problem in the series.

I'm still on the fence on the general subject of making endless full game sequels vs. making one decent engine and delivering new songs in cheaper song packs, online or not, but in the end I like Guitar Hero so the outcome will probably be predictable.

Id probably be more into getting RB/GH if they offered like, a metal pack or something. Dont really like regular rock.

Yeah, III's problem was aiming more towards difficult songs instead of memorable songs that were tough, and I'm not just talking TFAF. I mean like 4 or 5 of the bonus songs, the entire 8th bracket, a few songs of the 7th bracket, and Mosh 1 of Goddamn Raining Blood That Motherfucking Goddamn Stupid Song I Hate You.

GH2's tracklist was memorable in every way - GH3 had Dragonforce and "One."
