request for advice from the mods

Or ANY mod on an internet forum that is..
See I've recently been made a mod on an automotive forum. it's small now.. about 300 members, with MAYBE a half dozen posts or so a day.

So my question is, how does one keep up with it all? If the site gets bigger how does one, as a mod, deal with all the craziness and shenanigans that can sometimes arise on an internet discussion forum?

Adaptation - the mods here are great because they know the user base well enough to actively participate in discussions/anything else and still command the respect to call someone on being a dick. I'd just get involved in the community of said forum and have fun, so that the users know who you are and where you're coming from.

I've been involved since it's inception ;)

Nothing should really change at this point. By the soinds of it, its so small, all you have to do is what youve been doing, because you must have done soemthing right to become a mod in the first place. Except now, when you see someone being a dick, you do something about it. And listen to people's legitimate complaints

lol, well I'm friends with the person who started it. The forum is really a big homepage for her club which I helped start. So my being a mod is more from association (sorta like winning ms. america by sleeping with the judges). At any rate, while it's still small NOW, I'm hoping (a lot) that it will grow. So I wanna be prepared for the expansion. Like, how does one keep on TOP of all the posts that goes on in this place? or any other large forum? It seems to me you'd need to spend all day reading, and determining whether someone's being a dipshit or not.

You get a small group of mods.
Preferably from around the world to keep all the timezones covered.

Other than that, you're just human, so deal with unruly posters when any of the mods are online.

You need to take the management philosophy, you are there to make things work, not make friends.

That sound alright, but I was thinking more of the logistics side of it... how do you sort through so much traffic on a site like this and still find time to, oh I don't know.. sleep, brush your teeth? exist? lol

This is how.
You don't have to be there 24/7.
Or did you think any of the mods and admins here were online all the time?

yeah, but there's like.... 14,000 members of NPF.. with like... how many mods are there here? Maybe a dozen? I don't know all of them... That seems like an awfully big ratio
