(OOC: And what's wrong with that?)
Armed with this new knowledge Frankie begins to put a few things together. 'Corbitt was buried in the basement by Thomas, a member of a cult dabbling in powers much like those that summoned the creature before, much like Corbitt himself. The gaunt figure was humanoid... ghost stories... a sorceror. It seems that either Thomas or Corbitt is still in that house. Most likely Corbitt.' He replaced the files and left the room, thanking the clerk for his help with his project, and then waved down a cab to bring him to the church, where Ted and Marcus should be waiting. (OOC: and now I get to wait while the others catch up to 9 pm) |
ooc: I'm assuming either we find a crack house now, or a bank.

OOC: krylo, you'll probably actually arrive at the church at about 10:00 PM...
7:00 PM Marcus and Ted arrive after dark at the burned out old church. You find yourself on the end of a dark street, with the ruins of the church in front of you. Since it is dark, it is hard to see, but luckily you both recieved flashlights and now bring them out. The walls were once of brick most likely, but over time they are now so overgrown with vegetation and worn with age, they almost look like natural stone again. As you walk towards where the old entrance used to be, the only cleared way into the church, you notice something on the wall. As you look closer, you see what it is ((See attachment)). The symbol has been freshly painted, and as you look at it you begin to develop a mild headache. However, you feel there may still be something of importance here, so you don't know whether to stop or continue. EDIT: Oops, forgot the attachment... |
ooc: Do I recognize the symbol by either a history, archaeology, or antropology check?
Ted looked about with his flashlight. He looked at the symbol and then crossed himself. |
OOC: Nope, the symbol seems to have been made up just for this cult. You can think of no prior instance of seeing it.
|
OOC. Does my occult check help me here. And I think I have seen something like that symbol in a campaign before...
IC "Good thing I brought my med kit." Marcus pulls out some asprin pops 2 pills from it and offers some to Ted "Lets look around for just a little bit not to long. I got a bad feeling about this place.Lets leave in about maybe ten minutes..." |
OOC: Still nothing. You both remain clueless to the symbol. And you may be mistaking it for another symbol that is similar to, but not the same as, this one. Only a Mythos check could reveal the other symbol this one looks like, and you both failed it just to let you know (You have a 5%, what do you expect...) And I assume you are now investigating...
You both walk through the door into the church. As you step under some hanging debris, you find yourself in a large, fairly empty space. You look at the old shattered columns around, the bowed and collapsed walls, and random bits of natural debris that have gotten in here. |
ooc: What do I smell? Remember dead things Reek. If something evil is killing and eating people and such it would smell here.
Ted sniffed the night air. He was tempted to go for a drink. "No thanks. I have my own medicine if need be." He did not like the feel of this place. It felt 'evil' to him. |
ooc. Give me an honorable death. I don't want to die by fallen debris (that happened to me once.)or a homless bum who is crazy. But I would preferably not want to die to soon.
IC"I bet there is a secret passage somewhere see if you can find anything like a lever or a book or something. Also look for some sort of book or someting that looks suspicious." Marcus tells Ted carefully looking around. |
OOC: No smells, but the vegetation on the walls and the night air...
|
ooc: House team's moving too slow and I need something to do, so what the hell.
ic: Paul moved on to the next room on the left. |
House Team
You have entered the third room on the left, the mud room. In it, you see a few pairs of hats, shoes, coats, and umbrellas littered about or hanging on the walls. You see the side door that people are supposed to come in through if it rains, and notice it is covered in multiple locks and deadbolts. Church Team As you take a few steps away to begin your search, all of a sudden they heard an ominous crack. Suddenly the flimsy floor, which was only a thin layer of wooden boards put down after the fire that dirt and vegetaion had settled on it, gave away. The wooden floor crashed down into the room below them taking the investigators with it, but while Marcus was able to grab a hanging vine, Ted fell straight to the bottom with an OOF. There might be some nasty bruising, but he would be alright. OOC: Marcus passed his DEX roll, Ted didn't... And now you are both in a new room, better look around... |
Neil was fingering his gun nervously.
"This...this is kinda' creeping me out. Just the abandonment part, though." He looked over Paul's shoulder, checking for anything out of the ordinary. |
OOC Well who didn't see that coming from a mile away? oh Yay dex roll!
IC Marcus climbs down the vine to Father Ted "Are you alright? he says dusting off Ted whislt taking a look around from where he is standing... |
"I've been in millenia old ruins more stable." He said dusting himself off. He fumbled in the dark for his flashlight. The light was out. He shook it and it flickered then blazed forward. The light blazed forth. "Now how to get out of here."
|
"Umm lets try to be careful and who knows what else is here, down in this basement." Marcus said looking around with a flashlight he took from home.

OOC: Oops, forgot the update. At the end of this post.
As you look around, you first realize the exit is blocked by tons or rubble. The only way back out will be the vine that leads down in this hole. Next you beams falls on two skeletons, still with scraps of silk around them and on them. They must have been cultists who chose to hide down here and die in the fire over leaving. Next the beam falls on two cabinets that haven't been covered in rubble. Finally it falls on a mouldy old table with a large book sitting on top of it. |
OOC: I was not included in that update. *cries*
|
"Hold up I need a courage builder." He reached into his pocket and pulled out his silver Flask. The flask was still in good condition. "You know I use holy water to make this." He said refrencing the flask. "It makes the gin taste sweeter, knowing it's blessed." He takes a hit of the flask and offers Marcus a hit.
|
Paul walked into the room and began to look through the pockets of the coats, being careful not to miss anything in the room. Seeing Neil's strange look, he said, "Well you never know."
|
Dave leaves the second right room, not wanting to smell the decaying soup anymore, and opens the door to the third right room.
|
The Pockets contain some spare change and lint, nothing of interest.
The third room on the right is the kitchen. You look around and see this room, like all the others, is very sparsly decorated except for the essentials. You see an icebox, a wood fed stove, and a small larder. On investigation of the larder, you see some canned foods, rice, and dried meats that survive, but it seems everything else has been devoured by rats from the chewed up boxes and left over chewed scraps. In the drawers you find standard kitchen implements such as knives, forks, spoons, etc. Nothing special. |
" I need it" Marcus says taking the hit. "I wonder what this book is for. I think the team might want this for later." he says going over to the book and picking it up but not reading it.

He gives a tug, but realizes the book is chained to the desk. As you feel the odd texture of the book, you suddenly carefully look at it, and examine it. You drop it in horror when you realize the book has been bound in human skin.
OOC: You may have a high DEX, but your high Medicine trait came back to bite you... |
ooc: I wonder, does Alcoholism give you an advantage in Sanity checks, I mean to say. If you see something horrible while drunk, you could logically assume you immagined it, or better accept it as being your less inhibited.
Ic: "What is it?" Father Ted said. He put his flask back in his pocket. "Something wrong?" |
OOC yeah I know in call there is a downside to everything good.
Marcus droped back then he knew what he must do no matter how disgusting it was. He felt the chain down to the base pulled out his handcannon looked at father ted and said "When I get the book free you carry it out okay?" Then aimed at the chains base at the desk at close range. EDIT "You are pure of heart cause your a reverend so it is best if you carry it out..." OOC I am going to attemt to free the book by shooting at the base of the chain where its kept. But if this is the book I think it is we're screwed either way... |
OOC: Not sure which book you think it is...
You decide to save a bullet and start by hitting the base of the cahin with the butt of your gun. The old, rusted chain yields and snaps, freeing the book into your possesion. |
OOC I forgot its name not the Necro though.
IC "Father you up first I will just give you a boost up if you want." Marcus hands the book by the chain to Father Ted "Do not read it... just hold on to the chain." Marcus says giving him a boost onto the vine... OOC I hope this works... |
The Father takes the chain, and with the help fo Marcus and the hanging vine, is able to get out. He then helps Marcus out of the hole. You are now both in the main room again, with the constant headache getting worse.
|
Tommy looked as Dave opened the door.
"Anything yet?" |
"It's just a kitchen, nothing important." Dave said as he went back into the hall towards the rest of the group.
|
"Can we just get out of here. This place and this book are giving me the creeps." He felt the sudden urge to draw a cross over the symbol
|
"Did you even check carefully?" Paul asked as he walked into the kitchen.
|
As Paul enters he notices something on a wall in the corner, partially blocked by the open larder doorway. When the larder is closed, it reveals a fuse box in the wall.
|
"I know we won't be staying here at night, but at least this place still has power," he said as he looked at it.
|
"Yeah lets just leave. Enough weird stuff has happened." Marcus said exiting the old church.
|
As Paul looks at the box, he notices some of the fuses have been taken out. He looks around but doesn't see any more fuses in the kitchen.
|
ooc: You must really love to screw us over FZ.
ic: "Or maybe we don't have power, in some of the house at least," he said, making a mental note that they could turn on the the lights in some of the house. |
OOC: Hey, I'm just follow the Scenarios in the book until I build up some experience... That doesn't change the fact that it's funny though...
|
"Hold up this symbol bothers me."
He pulls out his Flask and splashes the symbol with Holy Gin. and picks up a concrete stone. "In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem: sed libera nos a malo. Amen." He marked over the symbol with a chalky celtic cross as He said the prayer. http://www.avalonvisions.com/images/celtic-cross.gif |
OOC: That's a bit intricate...
As the father approaches the symbol, it's almost as if it is staring at him. Whan he puts the cross over it and says the chant, there is an increasing mental pressure, and one last spike of annoyance, then the feelings passes. The headache is gone, as is the symbol. |
ooc: He's Irish and proud.

OOC if I die from this I will laugh my ass off
Marcus Goes up to the church and on the side Marcus says "Hold on a sec, I must do something as well... As he slowly traces the symbol wiith a chalky debris He says a little something in latin abnocto ere unicus unicus ere abnocto |
Paul slowly walked up the stairs to the second floor and opened the door closest to him.
|
OOC: BLARG, U R DEAD! Just messing with you, here's what you really find...
You go up the stairs and see that there are four rooms, all along the left side. You open the first one on your left it find yourself in the bathroom. You see the usual: a sink, a bath tub, and a water closet. You look in the bathtub and find it partially full of old brackish water from the dripping faucet that won't fully close. |
"Hey Revrend Ted you think we should head to the house and check up on the guys or drop this book off at the mansion first?" Marcus says heading towards the car. "That is after Frankie shows up of course..." He says...
|
10:00 PM
Marcus and Ted waited for Frankie to finally arrive. When he did, everyone explained their latest discoveries to each other, then decided what to do next with their new knowledge. |
Frankie looked up at the sky and thought for a minute. "Well, I'm guessing it's pretty late... probably somewhere between nine and eleven. The others are all probably back at the mansion... but you guys said there was a cabinet and some other things, but all you got was that... book?" A slight shiver ran down his spine, remembering that it was bound in human skin, but he quickly shook it off. "There might be something else down there worth looking at."
|
Marcus looked at Frankie "I will go down again I guess..." Marcus said with a little hesitation. "Just remember that the floor is extremely unstable and that you might be shoced by some of the things down there... Mark said heading back to the Church.
|
Frankie nodded and followed Marcus into the church, being careful to watch his step, as not make any more holes in the flooor. Particularily ones he would fall through. "Were there any other rooms that you could see besides the two you were in?" He slipped a hand into his coat, keeping it on his gun. He remembered that the symbol had been freshly painted, and he decided it was better to be ready than dead.
|
Once you return to the hole in the floor room, you look around. Debris and rubble covers any other potential openings. The only places to explore are this main room, and the room underneath this one through the hole.
|
"Guess not..." Frankie shrugged and hung his legs off the side of the hole before hopping down into it, not bothering to play with the vine as that it wasn't that deep (I would assume seeming as Ted only got a little bruised). Once down the hole he looks around in the dark. "Hey Marcus, toss down the light, or come down here, would you?"
|
"Okay." Marcus tosses down the light whilst climbing down the vine..."Here ya go."
|
Frankie grabs the flashlight and turns it on, glancing around the room, and finding the cabinets first. He walks over and attempts to open them.
|
Paul walked alittle further into the second floor and called out to the first floor, "You know, alittle help would be appreciated." He then opened the next door on his left.
|
Church Team
You rip open the cabinets to find stacks and stacks of papers. You pick over some and while they seem encrusted with mold and decaying with age, you can make out that these were church records. Pehaps searching through them will reveal something of use... House Team Paul opens the second door on the left and looks inside. There is an ancient bed frame with bare bed springs on it, and a dresser on the opposite wall from the "bed". The room obviously hasn't been used in a long time, yet from the sounds of it there were multiple owners of the house over the years... |
"Do you have anything we can keep these things in?" Frankie starts leafing through the papers quickly, not really taking the time to read them. "I don't want to read them in the dark here, but we can look through them back at the mansion... besides, I don't want to take the time to read anything in this place."
|
Paul walked over to the dresser and began to open all the drawers. While he was opening them, he yelled out to the downstairs rooms, "Can one of you please help me?"
|
You open the dressers to find they are all empty. The layer of dust on the floor and the dresser speaks that this room has seen no inhabitants for years.
OOC: As for the documents, your on your own there... |
Tommy heard Paul shouting for him and decided to go keep him company.
"All right, all tight, I'm coming..." |
" My doce folder in my med bag will work." he said pulling it out.
|
Frankie grinned back at Marcus and took the folder from him, stuffing it with papers, being careful not to tear any, and then handed it back to the doctor. "Thanks, that'll make things easier." His flashlight beam then went around the room once more, checking carefully to see if there was anything else of interest.
(OOC: If there isn't you can just make your next post thing us going back to the mansion, so far as I'm concerned, FZ) |
OOC: BAM! You're back.
12:00 AM - Mansion You arrive back with all your gathered loot from the church in tow. You drop it off in the sitting room, the frst place you pass, then decide what to do next. OOC: I can assume, but just making sure... |
Paul looked at Tommy, the only willing person to go up to the second floor. "You go in there," he said, pionting to the first door on the right, "I'll go in here." He opened the next door and walked into the last room he would be checking out for the day.
|
Tommy shrugged and walked up to the room, not knowing what to expect. He turned the knob, threw the door open, then took two steps back.
|
OOC: As Tommy opens the door, Cthulhu eats him! Game over! J/K...
Tommy opens the door the first room and looks inside. He sees two small beds, scattered toys and children's trinkets, and models on a table. The previous family must have had children Cal forgot to mention. Otherwise, the room seems without anything of interest. Paul opens the other room. He reveals an ordinary bedroom, with a double bed, a bookshelf, and a bedside table. As you look around, you are somewhat surprised to see Catholic crosses, saints, statues, and pictures everywhere in the room. There is a rosary and a breviary on the bedside table and multiple small statues of crosses and saints as well. The bookshelf has multiple pictures of Christ and various saints. They seem to have far more religious symbols then you would expect of even the most devout of Catholics... |
Frankie looked at Father Ted and then at Marcus and a wry grin formed on his face. "So... who wants to read the human skin book?" He then thought for a moment and looked at a clock before adding an afterthought, "Or maybe we should just hit the hay and do this tomorrow..."
|
Chastising himself for his weakness, Tommy decided to poke around the room. After all, it looked harmless enough. He moved over to the table, looking at the stuff around it.
|
"That makes everything but the basement...." Paul said, walking out of the room. He walked downstairs, a wierd look on his face. "Uuuhh....Should we just leave or go check out the basement..." he said. The tone in his voice made it sound like he obviously didn't want to go down there. Hopefully there's still power down there, he thought.
|
The table simply has some models on it, and random trinkets of no importance.
|
"I'm going home. I have a class to teach tommorrow afternoon." Father Ted went to his car and drove home.
|
OOC If I lose sainity for this I am going to be a little irked. Which means I will light it on fire. Then I will commit sepekeu with a frisbee.
Marcus went over to the book and said " I am not tired...Maybe its from getting the bejesus scared out of me. I will read it first since I know latin. I will also go through the church Documents..." Why do I thik this is a bad idea Marcus thought to himslef as he opened the book using a pen to not touch the cover... |
Tommy shrugged and left the room, heading over to where Paul was.
|
OOC: Your good Spirit...
The book is massive, and will take days if not weeks to read, but you immediatly read the title as Liber Ivonis. You begins to flip through, reading random bits here and there, but not reading straight through. You soon the book is in terrible condition, with many burns, torn pages, deep cuts, and blood stains running pages deep and ruining large areas of the book. You flip over large areas of ruined book, to gain random bits and facts from the book. When you are done skimming the book, it is 1:00 AM, you have gained very little information from it, but you have judged their may be one or two complete spells in it after you have read it and learned more aobut them. |
(OOC: If you even get NEAR it with a lighter Frankie will shoot you, shoot you dead)
Frankie nods at Marcus and allows him to look through the human skin book alone as that the ex-drifter only knows how to speak or write bad english. Instead he picks up the church documents and begins going through them. |
OOC Hmmm next chance I get I will study that for a while. Anyhow What about the church docs?
|
OOC: Last one was to Marcus, this one it to Frankie.
As you flip through the massive amounts of documents, you come across many ruined documents. Some crumble to dust in your fingers, others already disintigrated just by moving them into the box. However, by sheer luck, you come across one packet of papers in mostly good condition. As you read through, you only find one notice of importance in the deeds of this bizarre cult. It says, "... and also today the Reverend and some others went and buried Mr. Corbitt in the basement of his home, in accordance with his wishes, and the wishes of the One Who Waits in the Dark..." |
Frankie looks over at Marcus after reading the last passage. "Is there anything in there about "One Who Waits in the Dark?" ...These papers mention 'his' wishes... namely in Corbitt being buried in his basement. It worries me and I'd like to know who this "One Who Waits in the Dark" is."
|
OOC
Posted By Forever Zero "... and also today the Reverend and some others went and buried Mr. Corbitt in the basement of his home, in accordance with his wishes, and the wishes of the One Who Waits in the Dark..."
...AWW FUCK! IC "not that I konw of..." Marcus said "why?" |
Frankie read the writing directly from the page, "... and also today the Reverend and some others went and buried Mr. Corbitt in the basement of his home, in accordance with his wishes, and the wishes of the One Who Waits in the Dark." He then looked up at Marcus and stated simply, "That's why."
