Teh Controllarz!

The Classic Controller is for the person who grew up on the Super Nintendo. And that's totally awesome.

The N64 controller was awful - Let it be a lesson that you can never make a controller where buttons are located on the other side of the controller. It did one thing correct, with the four C buttons and A and B.

PS2 controller feels at home for the 2d fighting game and I love it.

I always liked the Genesis controller myself. My child hands wrapped nicely around it and it was fully responsive and never broke unlike pretty much every other controller I've had ever.

Also the NES advantage. It could slow down games for you! It could also hit buttons super fast for you! That's a controller!

I used to be at odds with the Xbox controller back when I played the PS2 more, but now that I've moved on to current gen games and purchased a 360 I must say I've changed my mind and adapted quite quickly to the 360 controller. It's pretty comfortable.

My only complaint, though this is pretty much true for all the consoles save perhaps the Wii, is its inaccuracy for shooters. This wouldn't be such a problem though, if SO many of the good 360 games were shooters. Bah, really need a laser mouse.

Other than that it's comfy. Playing GTA on it feels very natural, despite the ridiculously complex control scheme for the game.

The wiimote lost its novelty pretty fast with me. And back when I had a Wii, though I loved the shiny new revamped SNES controller thingy, there were like two games that had compatibility with it. And they were two games I didn't have any interest in playing. I was pissed when I got Metal Slug Anthology and it didn't have compatibility...It was the perfect game FOR that controller. Sigh.

Never tried a PS3 controller. Is it not more or less similar to the PS2 controller, but with that amazingly useful SixAxis stuff?

I have to go for the PS2 Dual Shock - I loved that the L2/R2 buttons were actually in the controller, unlike what they did to them with the PS3. It made for great playing with games like Amplitude.

I actually like the N64 controllers more than the SNES ones and Genesis ones - I had trouble slipping my hands around them.

I love the way a gamecube feels in my hands, though I will admit the Xbox sometimes feels a bit more like a futuristic control board, as you always have more than enough buttons for any task at hand.

Snes controllers are awesome, and they don't hurt my hands like the NES's did.

N64 took some getting use to, but in retrospect it was pretty wonky. Especially after never using it for years, then coming back to it for an n64 smash tournament.

I maintain that the SNES controller had just the right amount of buttons, and the only thing that it is missing to be perfect are analog sticks.

Of course, the Wii Classic Controller takes care of that nicely...

Or the Super Advantage.

Of the current generation: The XBOX 360 controller is ok for me. Nothign special but no complaints.
The Wii is perfect for some games (MP3 for example) and a bit silly for others.
As for the PS3 I haven't used one but I've heard lots of complaints about the SixAxis in that it doesn't really work properly a lot of the time. Anyone got any experience with that?

My ranking (traditional controllers only):
  1. Game Cube controller (as I said before, sex for your hands).
  2. PlayStation 1/2 controller (the perfect evolution of the legacy started by the NES).
  3. SNES controller (Six buttons properly spaced for the win). Classic controller is almost similar to this one but I prefer the ergonomic feel of the SNES controller.
  4. N64 controller (say what you will about this one, but I loved the analog stick and the Z button too much, and it helped that very few games used the D-pad in any meaningful way).
  5. Game Boy/Pocket/Color/Advance (I just really love it).
  6. NES controller (The angular edges are what kill this one).
  7. XBOX controller (just no).

But stylus > All. I have such a blast with touch features that I cannot go back to play Zelda the old way. The Wiimote so far may come second. I love playing with just one hand or having your hands able to move freely apart from the other. It just depends on how games in the future will utilise the motion sensing.

The GCube controllers always feel the weakest, the shoddiest of the bunch. It's no surprise that I've known people who've gone through these whilst other console controllers have kept on keepin' on.

I prefer the 360 controller for console FPS games (without getting into the pros and cons of a gamepad vs. a keyboard/mouse).
I prefer the PS2 dualshock 2 controller for fighting games.

It remains to be seen if I will prefer the Wii Fit board for Wii Fit over, say, my PS2 controllers or my guitar controllers. Who knows?!
