Super Mario RPG hitting the Virtual Console in June
In Japan, that's it.
This is still good news, since this demonstrates Square-Enix is willing to put its masterpieces in a downloadable catalogue, something they've been against up until now. I'd say you should be expectant for SMRPG's launch overseas. Europe is pretty much a given, and I'm sure North America will receive it too. "When" is the only question. |
yes yes yes yes...this requires a song I think...

Yet another thing I'll have to waste money on. :gonk:

Donkey Kong Jr Math has been out for over a year. But SMRPG isn't announced (japan only at that) till mid 2008, and Earthbound is who the hell knows when.
That's so... nintendo. Still, good news, yay. |
I've heard that you can buy games of other regions if you change the location of your Wii. As simple as that.

Sure it would, if you buy it from Japan. There are ways around it though. I mean, I'm sure we've all played the game before, so I've no worries in understanding the story. An European release is likely too, so we can download a version from them. Lastly, buying the Japanese game and deleting it and downloading it again when it becomes available in America. You don't get charged for games you already downloaded, so I don't see a problem.
I'm just sayin'. |

I wouldn't really count on any other classic Squarenix titles released on the VC based on only this; Squarenix is in the position where they can't re-release Super Mario RPG in anything but a Nintendo capacity due to the use of Nintendo characters. Whereas they can re-release any and all of their other games onto say the DS or other systems at a much higher profit rate (I THINK, VC may bring in more money based on how popular it is, but really, a 30-40 dollar DS game selling even half as many as a VC copy would still make far more profit). Then again, you cut out the cost of cartridges doing this, and if it's very cost-effective to just release it on the VC without any editing, etc., the original version, then maybe it will start happening.
Really I just see this as a no-brainer, though, as there was no other way for them to release it except through Nintendo and Nintendo probably wanted it as a VC title instead of any sort of DS release or what have you. |
What gets me is that digital distribution of games as old as this is practically free money for Nintendo.
So why aren't they cashing in on it? Because Nintendo is a fucking awful company sometimes, and if you want proof you can just look at the Hard Drive they put on the Wii. Oh there isn't one? Well fucking exactly! |
