If you insist.

Anyway, if I recall correctly Cross decided that it was Schala who was pulling all the portal shit, but this could be way off base because I really didn't play Cross at all and my knowledge is based entirely on hearsay.

Mike McC 06-03-2008 02:03 AM

All I have to say is this.

Mirai Gen 06-03-2008 02:19 AM

So much for my moratorium idea.

As I understand it the rift-between-dimensions that allowed Serge to go between his split-fate universe was caused by Schala whom was fused to Lavos, and something about their existing in disharmony ended up causing it.

Which is why you take the Chrono Cross element and have to use all of the colors first to get the 'great' ending, as you're bringing harmony to the Time Devourer's chaotic existence.

Also, seriously, I just said Time Devourer out loud and I now realize how bad it sounds.

Truce 06-03-2008 02:21 AM

So...

Why is Crono missing an H in his name? It always bothered me, for some reason.

Mike McC 06-03-2008 02:27 AM

Because they could only have 5 letter names. Technological restriction.

POS Industries 06-03-2008 02:30 AM

Five-letter name limit. His name actually is Chrono is Japan.

Ah, okay.

Of course, I always felt this opened the door for the events of Chrono Cross to be taking place in a separate continuity from Trigger, as it seemed like the entire planet itself was radically different from the one in the original game. For instance, it was stated in Cross that the events of the game Radical Dreamers took place in a different universe, though it was also stated officially that the "Gil" character in RD was, in fact, Magus.

Essentially, it would be a better way to reconcile the two stories without having to accept that the lovable heroes from Chrono Trigger all died like bitches.

Julford Hajime 06-03-2008 02:35 AM

Bah, I had this hugeass post ready for the last thread, and you guys went and closed it on me when I was typing >.>

Ooooooh, this looks like fun! *Jumps back in*

Which then turns out to be a shell containing a semihumanoid alien inhabiting some sort of quasiorganic multidimensional thing and cataloguing an exhaustive collection of the DNA of Earth's lifeforms.
I meant the innerinner core (Fight three), but yeah; Lavos can quite simply be described as a very, VERY large parasitic life form. Chrono Trigger pretty much said so itself:

Quote:

It lives on a planet for as long as
possible, stealing away the most vital
resources...

It combined the DNA it found here
with its own, and gave birth to those
creatures up on Death Peak.

Eventually the young must migrate to
other planets...to repeat the cycle...

If by "expands on" you mean "takes a totally great idea, throws it out, and replaces it with shit," then sure.
This right here is a matter of taste; I happen to think that they took a good approach to the idea, you don't. The point still stands that Cross is canon, is coherent with and expands upon Trigger's plot.

Now, about the translation issues... Here's a link to a page showing the original text, the japanese characters, and then a retranslation of the original japanese:

http://chronofan.com/Black/Publicati...ter%2025-1.htm

Ctrl+F 'Entity', and you'll find this under the retranslation:

Quote:

Robo: Having now journeyed over 400 years, I have realized something.

WE HAD thought that the emergence of Gates WAS from the distortions from Lavos's power, but the feeling HAS come upon me that we were mistaken.

Marle: What do you mean?

Robo: I cannot be CONFIDENT about it, but did someone not perhaps want to show us something......?

Something in various eras, through the Gates. Or, MAYBE that someone wanted to see it personally.

In order to think back upon the way his or her own life went......

Ayla: Ayla understand that. Legend that people see all memories up to then when die!

Frog: They say that when people die, the memories that were etched deeply into their hearts when they were alive come to mind one after another.

There are also happy memories, but generally they're sorrowful memories.

Robo: Undoubtedly, "I want to go back to that time", "If I had just done like so then"......

Strong feelings such as these LIKELY call memories to mind.

Marle: I wonder if I'll be like that too when I die?

Lucca: I'm sure you will.

Marle: Do you have one, Lucca? A moment you want to return to?

Lucca: No......

Marle: Sorry, should I not have asked?

Lucca: I try to think about it as little as possible. After all, I could get obsessed.

Frog: But...... The owner of these memories has quite a connection with Lavos.

They're caught up with Lavos every era we go to.

Magus: .......Well, who do you say that person is?

Robo: I do NOT know whose memories they are. Perhaps not a person...... MAYBE a larger existence.

The day we understand that MAY come when OUR journey ends. ......SHALL we get to sleep soon?
Keep in mind that immediatly after this event, we get one of the more convincing pieces of evidence for the planet: The red gate that takes Lucca back to 990 AD. Up until that point, every era had featured some Lavos event predominently, save 2300 which showed a world utterly devastated by Lavos's power and Belthazar, whose machinations were a vital aspect of the adventure (There are further arguments possible for 2300's inclusion in the game, but they include Cross stuff, so I'll just keep it out for now >.>). Instead, we get a moment that nobody but Lucca, Taban, Lara (Her parents), and the planet itself would have experienced.

EDIT: Dammit, I KNEW I was forgetting something! The original line for Gaspar was "This is a battle between the planet and Lavos!", which was skewed by translation.

Schala essentially reached through the dimensions and saved Serge; I can't recall exactly how right now, maybe later >.>

Now, on to more light-hearted matters. Specifically, the FFVI-2 Volleyball game.

Yes. YES. Dear sweet God yes. WE NEED THIS GAME.

I would kill you, your brothers/sisters/aunts/uncles/parents/whatever for Lucca in a swimsuit. Seriously, there isn't enough Lucca porn, and if there is, I don't have it yet. Either way, a game like this would only cause there to be more of it.

...Err.

No, seriously. We need more of it. The current collections I've found aren't NEARLY vast enough. I'd sit through team after team of Strago/Tellah for Lucca to be in that game. Maybe we could add Harle, too? >.>

Or God, or Gasper--being at the point where all time lines intersect, or Lavos--watching the planet while feeding upon it and waiting for its DNA to ripen properly, or any thing else.

Honestly, any entity capable of manipulating space and time to such a degree as to be able to create rifts through time in an ordered and planned manner would be, arguably, able to find--in the time stream--the event Lucca regretted and open a portal to it.

Your theory is anything but iron clad.

Also: Dude, cut down the creepy with the porn. Seriously. Lucca and Harle are hot and all, but spouting off about porn is kinda... well it's just creepy.

Harle
Either you were trying to say "Harlot" or "Harley", but either way, totally.

Anyway.

Being totally honest Chrono Trigger has it's own paradoxes anyway, just because it's all about Time Travel anyway and those usually lead to strange incidents.

I am reminded of a fanfiction that takes the first moment of time travel from the game and puts it into real-world context, such as travelling 400 years into the future, the world rotating around the sun, and falling out of a portal 400 years in the future only to suffocate in space.

EDIT: Why do you people keep calling her "Harle?"

Kroze Gamegod 06-03-2008 02:53 AM

I think we all just need to face the facts that Chrono Cross was a decent game and that Fifthfiend is just a whore who didn't get paid by Chrono Cross after he gave it the reach around that it wanted, and thus is illogically biased on this matter.

And I don't think my brain could handle Harle porn EVER.
