Statutory Rape
Alisha Dean Doesn’t Look - Or Act - 13
[tldr] Orange County, FL - That’s what Morris Williams said. Williams, 22, went to see Alisha Dean’s father, Jerry Dean, after several dates with Alisha. Alisha had told Morris Williams she was 18. Her Myspace (now edited and private) said she was 19 and divorced. But after having sex with Alisha, Williams got worried. Things she said and did tipped him off, and he went to see Jerry Dean, who told Williams that yeah, his daughter was only 13. Then Jerry Dean called the police to press charges. What Morris Williams didn’t know was that he’s not the first guy that’s fallen for Alisha Dean. In January of 2007, Darwin Mills, 24, was sentenced to five years for sexual battery with the then-twelve-year-old Alisha as the victim. Mills said he didn’t know how old she was, either. Morris Williams insisted that once he found out Alisha’s age, he never went back. But that didn’t save him in court on Tuesday, when he was sentenced to a year in jail, followed by five years of ankle-bracelet probation. Alisha’s public Myspace is now down, but it wasn’t, even when the case went to court yesterday. The suggestive material was enough to make grown women blush. A couple of her videos show the minor child shaking her womanly booty like she’s working the pole. It’s totally believable to me that young men might not realize the girl’s age if she lied about it. Furthermore, Jerry Dean openly admitted that Alisha continues to stay out late and hadn’t deleted the Myspace that listed her as an adult. Even now, her private page says she’s 16 - three years older than she really is. Where the hell are Alisha’s parents? Why are they not controlling their daughter? It’s enough to make me wonder why Alisha is acting out in this way. Does she have a reason to hate men who sexualize her? Can a child her age even be fully cognizant of the havoc they can wreak on other lives? Don’t get me wrong. Darwin Mills and Morris Williams should have checked it out first and hit it later. But Mills’ only other conviction is for driving on a suspended license, and Morris Williams didn’t have a Florida DOC record until now. We’re not talking hardened baby rapers here. So what’s the answer? Lori Drew has been charged for essentially lying about her age and identity on a website resulting in harm to Megan Meier. Can’t the same charges be placed on a kid who let men go to jail without telling them her age? What about her parents, who are clearly unwilling to curtail her online and offline activities? Tell us what you think. Because in the age of Myspace, there is legal precedent being set and people’s lives are being affected.[/tldr]http://www.dreamindemon.com/2008/05/...ook-or-act-13/ I don't think the appropriate actions have been taken here by her parents or by the law. Alisha Dean misrepresented herself as a 19-year old with the intent to get in a relationship with an older man. She's done this not once, but twice. The court doesn't seem to make note of this, and what's worse, her parents won't do a damn thing about it! Underneath the surface of this story is another one. This sort of behavior doesn't arise on it's own. Sexual activity at this age is almost always linked to molestation or some form of serious instability at home. (It's true, ask Dr. Drew) What is going on with this 13-year old that she's been sexually active since 12? *I'm not advocating pedophilia by any means, and as far as I can tell, neither is anybody involved in this case. EDIT: Sorry about the not-mainstream media above. Here is the local news story on her. http://www.wftv.com/news/16348047/detail.html |
Well, if i take only the point of view of the article, then, yeah. I have no fucking clue on the "why" the arrested the guy.
It's not like you say "ok, now i need to see some ID" before you go on a date. And, yeah, c'mon... let face it, some girls CAN act and look really older, specially if they are trying too... and a Older woman with that "young vibe" is a thing a lot fo guys go for, specially around their 20's Now this guy has to go to jail because, pardon my wording, a self-proclaimed slut probably missed one too many hugs at home? Hell, that's the type of stuff that could ruin this guy's life! Imagine looking for a job and somehow your future boss get a hold of your file... "So... engaging sex with a minor, eh? 1 year conviction?" what's he going to say!? "WOW! yeah... funny story actually! Y'gonna love this... she didnt looked 13... a-and... she came on to me..." really messed'up. Unless there is more to this guy than the news says, i would think this is one bad case of "Dumb Law" |
Unfortunately, I find there are no right answers to statutory rape. I'm in Canada which means the legal age is 14 (which is a little creepy) but I started dating my girlfriend when she was 15 and I was 18. Now we're 20 and 23, and I plan on proposing in two weeks.
In some states, it would have been totally illegal for me to have been in this relationship at that 16-19 age gap, and thats somewhat frightening because there isn't a massive maturity difference between a 16yo girl and a 19yo boy (a little one, but not much). Now, at the same time, a 14yo girl and a 25 yo guy is ridiculously gross to think about that, but its totally legal here. It seems to me that there isn't a right way to do the whole age-thing, and I feel that a lot of it should be examined in a case by case basis. In this situation, while I feel bad for the guys who go to jail, to have sex with a girl without knowing her age is kind of jumping into the water without testing the temperature first. It says the guy got warning signs after he had sex with her, why not before? |
That's some fucked up shit right there.
On-topic: I can see how they justified arresting the two guys (and convicting the first one), but I honestly don't see why since it's clearly the girl's, and partially her parent's, fault. The girl clearly did this with the intention of deceiving the men involved, and it seems she may have intended for them to be arrested. Her parents are also incredibly at fault, since they have done nothing about this behavior, and almost seem to be encouraging it. Morris, when he became suspicious, seemed fully willing to break it off. Since he actually brought it to the attention the girl's parents, I'm pretty sure we can say he was deceived and had no idea what he was doing. Dunno about the other guy, but it wouldn't surprise me. So, yeah. It seems the girl/her parents are pretty much at fault here, since Morris and the other guy were clearly lied to and deceived. Quote:

She represented herself as 19. Looking at the photo, I can see why he wouldn't question her statement. After becoming suspicious, he goes to her father to make sure, which, if his suspicions were correct, would certainly land him in hot water. The zero-tolerance stance taken by many states fails to allow for extenuating circumstances, of which this case has many. |

Didn't get much publicity though, at least I didn't hear about it. And thanks for the grats! |
Here's a good run down of the status of the ages of consent for Canada. I'm not sure I'd call the change nice. What needed to be covered was already covered by exceptions.

Near as I can figure statutory rape is about an old, outdated and abused law. It seems like it was created back in the old days when the concept of sex before marriage a heinous and vile act, now it's just kind of one-sided against the older party involved.
It's even more fucked up considering the way teenagers are being raised as of late, they're becoming more manipulative and conniving way before they're old enough to realize that doing those sorts of things is fucked up. This sort of thing seems like the kid-out-of-control and manipulating the law because she's a bitch who 'grew up' too fast. |
Frankly, I think the girl should be the one in hot water. She's done this, not once, but TWICE. That's not jail bait; that's entrapment. And entrapment is illegal. The guys were overall decent people who were mislead, and who were horrified when they learned the truth of how badly they'd been had. This girl's parents need to step up so that there isn't a #3. There should never have been a #2.

I'm still trying to process on the "How" parents under their roof a 13 year old girl like that and not take any sort of suspicion regarding her active sex life, her myspace page, her photos, videos, the way she dresses when going out... who she is going out with...
if anyone can explain, please, do. As far as i'm concern, some guy is going to spend 1 year in jail and get a police record because some kid parents dont have a clue about their own daughter.... way to go lady justice! |
