I've been suffering through a strange boredom lately, yet I've been productive through it.

I'd experiment with the results, but I don't wanna waste this sudden burst of usefulness.

That Snickers tart that i had today was delicious. Seriously that's some nice shit.

I'm working on a D&D 3.0 game engine, and I've been looking for a good random number algorithm. I finally find one, code it together, and it falls apart. I watch as my random numbers turn out to be very predictable.

So, instead of rewriting it or finding a new one-or, god forbid, I write my own-I wrote this little bastard.

There are three steps:

1)Instantiate the random generator, seeded with the current time, generate 25 numbers, ranged 0-99999, with it.

2)Use the same generator to choose which of those random numbers will be used to seed another instance of the same generator.

3) Using this new instance, generate your numbers.

Using this, the numbers are much more random, and it hardly taxes the processor or memory at all! Yay!

I'm sorry, but as a programmer, I just have to ask this.

What the hell crappy random number generator are you using that you need to jump through that many hoops?

I find it interesting that this thread has immediately become seven thousand times shittier and spammier than the previous open thread in spite of the fact that the previous one was started in the pro-spam Off Topic forum and this one was started in the ostensible less-spam-friendly General forum.

Indeed; I think that eliminating the Mended Drum would be a good idea.

Well, the off-topic that was summoned to be named the Mended Drum, anyway.

I think it really illustrates a NEED for an off-topic forum. I mean it shows pretty darn well the community as a whole isn't going to up and get serious just because the Broken Mended Drum is closed.
